The management and work ethic are almost non-existent in this company. After dragging the project for several months, they disappeared and failed to complete my landscaping project in Oakville, ON - They also left several major deficiencies, unresolved, due to poor workmanship and supervision - extremely unsatisfied - not recommended

We signed a contract with Tom in January and have known him and his work for years. So did not think twice. We had planned to have a pool for our son with special needs to help with sensory and as a way to entertain friends (naturally). Tom asked us to pay the deposit. We did. Then he said they would start in May - a few days late but promised wed still be on time. We paid another 3rd of the project They started work and four days later after literally destroying our backyard nor leaving any stairs - just left. We have been repeatedly trying to communicate to get the work finished. We have had limited to no communication from them. They have ignored us completely now and our backyard is destroyed. This has been the state for 5-6 months. And we have not received any of our money back. The saddest part is he looked my kid in the eye and said you want to see the pool? Showed it to him etc.

Avoid this company completely. The design process of the yard was good but the execution was a disaster. Tom, the principal of the company, is the worst communicator. He never returns phone calls, emails nor text messages. When he does communicate he makes promises that can't be kept.

After doing about a third of the job the project was left for months with no communication. When I finally heard from Tom, it was because I threatened to go to another company. He begged me to use them. I gave them another chance which I regret. The hardscaping work done is falling apart and was installed incorrectly. I now have a large retaining wall literally collapsing within a month of its installation. Grading wasn't done correctly and is very evident.

The work was done late which meant my property went on the market late once it died mid May. The extra delay meant my property went on the market AFTER the mortgage interest rate hike and therefore the market went dead and it still is sitting on the market. The prospective buyers and their agents are commenting on the retaining wall collapsing and also the walkway which is starting to come apart and isn't even.

My neighbors were using Mountainhill and Tom backed out of the job and the refund cheque he provided bounced so he owes them almost $30,000. My understanding is that employees haven't been paid and he owes many customers money and/or jobs have not been completed.

The poor review written by another customer recently happened at the same time as my problems. The issues are the same as mine and it seems this is not a one off problem.

I am so disappointed in this company. I just can't believe the lack of professionalism, abysmal communication and lack of follow through. How can Tom sleep at night with all of the untruths he tells.

Stay away from this company. I had the unfortunate experience of hiring Mountainhill Landscaping to design and install an inground pool and landscaping in our backyard. It has been a complete nightmare. Poorly managed company, lack of planning, abysmal communication, and sheer inability to deliver a project on time and on budget left me utterly frustrated and deeply dissatisfied.

First and foremost, their management is shockingly inept. Contract was signed on July 24, 2022 project was estimated to be 6 weeks of work. It started in September with estimated completion in October. It was not completed and obviously halted for the winter months. Tom sets expectations and NEVER meets them. We were then told project would be completed by end of April. Again deadline not met. New deadline is June which is quickly coming and going. Weeks go by where no work is done at all. The list of errors are endless, from mismeasuring our yard by 3 feet, to several items not quoted in the estimate, errors they expect us to cover the cost for and the list goes on. It is a constant struggle to get Tom to respond to either emails, phone calls, or texts. Dozens of attempts to contact were made with no success. When he needs cash flow he gets some work done, we paid him the next installment to purchase hardscape materials and most have yet to be purchased.

This company should not be in business. Extremely disappointed with the incompetence. This has been a disastrous experience.

I strongly advise against hiring Mountainhill Landscape. Poor management, lack of planning, abysmal communication, and inability to deliver on time and within budget. Save yourself the frustration and seek out a more professional and competent landscaping company that values its customers and takes pride in its work.

Tom and his team did a great job drawing up the plans and executing on the vision. They also followed through with great customer service when challenges arose.

The project with MountainHill started very well. During the design phase, Nick was very collaborative and responsive through our many inquiries and requests for change and the result was a beautiful design that made us wish we could afford to do everything at once, as the design was showing a backyard that could be showcased in a magazine. He also accompanied us to the building supply store so that we could choose the interlock and retaining wall.

Improvisation started the day the rest of the team came on site to start the work. Starting with the retaining wall that had to be changed to armourstone right away and we didn’t even get a chance to choose the colour, by the time we came home, they were already in place and couldn’t be taken out. When we asked why the drastic change, the answer was because they had not come onsite before and therefore had not realized that the back of the yard was so much higher than the house.

Other things went wrong with this project. We chose a geometric pattern for the interlock after being assured that the interlock on three sides of the swimming-pool would measure the same. It turned out that the three side are different in width. Only one side measures what was in the plan.

Then MountainHill built the border of the interlock with a different stone than what we chose because they had to order it that morning and the supplier was out of the one we had chosen - The sizes are significantly different. And the stone they brought for the border is not meant for a border. This was not a problem when they thought the whole area was going to be flush with the surrounding grass/mulch, because we would not be able to see the sides of the stones. When we realized that we could, their solution was to trying to disguise it with an additional step and bushes. What’s worse is a there are few weird cuts and stone placements that should have been avoidable, and no way of filling the paver joints all the way to the edge with polymeric sand, all because they started the border edge at each end simultaneously. They could have just started at one end and worked their way around. It is a rectangle after all.

The follow through on the outstanding items is non-existent as well. Even though they had stated that we had nothing to worry about because anything they damaged, they would fix, this has not occurred. Seven months later, we still don’t have electricity in the shed, the driveway is still damaged, we had to fix the fence ourselves, the polymeric sand does not go all the way to the border, and we have an issue with poor water drainage on the grass right at the yard entrance, where the most foot traffic is. It will cost us more money to fix these issues.
