The prospect of lowering of a basement floor is a complicated enough venture what with site logistics, schedule, underpinning, waterproofing, weeping tile and sanitary drainage, temporary structural supports and more, but I'm a retired architect and this particular project also happened to be my personal home with very specific design requirements - a challenge which they gladly met. We lived in the home through the entire schedule, though we were located in the second-third floor unit. It still added to the complexity of coordinating the work.

Mike, their site manager was always available, responsive, very knowledgeable about the work and always conscious about the schedule. The workers were all hardworking, knew their daily tasks and simply got it done. Happily, VMB was not the type of company to waste everyone's time with 'nickel & diming' arguments. They are as interested in getting the work expeditiously done to your satisfaction as you are in wrapping it up as quickly possible.

I was in search to have my basement dug out (underpinned) to increase the height from just over 6 feet to 8 feet. After reading several great reviews for VMB group I called them to ask for a quote. Dmitri and his team were fantastic! The promptness, communication and quote/price was far better than the other companies. It was an easy decision and it was the right decision.

The team was very hard working, respectful and clean. The team was usually on site by 7:30am and completed by 5pm. VMB took care of everything, from scheduling disposal bins, cement trucks and inspections - it was really great that everything they did was tracked online using Monday.com scheduling tool. It kept me up to date when workers would be in and gave me a high level view of the tasks and timeline.

I live in a semi downtown with street parking. My project was to underpin my basement, rebuild a walkout staircase from the basement, and replace the walkway beside my house. This was daunting. The main concern I had was that I didn't want my new porch ripped open to access the conveyor belt. As the walkway on the side of the house is only 41 " wide, VMB was presented some specific logistical problems from the get go.

Dimitri, Ariel and his team however, took care of everything. They established a productive work site and worked hard and quickly in the August heat to minimize the impact of this major project in a tight space. They kept me aware of the schedule with an app that was updated daily. Inspections were seamless with the production schedule, and most importantly, they listened when issues arose. And when the arose, they reacted immediately to solve the problems. As a homeowner anxious about proceeding with major construction, you can't ask for a better process. I am very happy with my new basement. Thanks VMB.

While a project with the scope / scale of underpinning + waterproofing can be conceptually daunting, Dimitri made himself available numerous times to patiently and humanely unpack any concerns we might have at the moment. He, and the entire VMB Group have a well-deserved confidence that we grew to rely on during the permitting / engineering phase and throughout the 6 weeks project cycle. Any challenges encountered were handled efficiently, professionally, and consultatively.

The final results are fundamentally transformative. From a basement ceiling low enough to hit my head on, we’re now enjoying over 8’ of height. From a compromised foundation with an uneven slab + no footings, we now have a robust, smooth foundation that will serve this house for generations. From the constant hum of the dehumidifier pulling 100+ pints of water a day from still-damp air, we now have a to a dry, comfortable home (and haven’t even plugged the dehumidifier back in).

Had a beam replaced in crawlspace with a steel beam. Crawlspace is tight and not easy to get around. Team was very effective and completed the job in a day.

We hired VMB to do a basement underpin & waterproof in our old Toronto semi. We vetted 5 underpinning companies and were happy we chose Vlad & his team! Renos often go wrong - especially Victorian semis tightly squeezed beside other old houses. But we had a great experience. They turned our 5’10” crawlspace into an 8’3” usable space, passing inspections without issue - on schedule. Their work was often complimented by other trades/ inspector. They were responsive, solution-focused, and acted with integrity. Would definitely recommend.
