Request to fix water in basement

WARNING – All Pro might take your deposit and never come back.

In early Summer 2019, our basement had water in it. Our neighbor was having work done on their property (an insurance claim from snowfall damage) and recommended All Pro. I called All Pro and was put into contact with Angelo. After some back and forth, Angelo came out to our home in mid-July to have a look. All Pro said that in order to properly give a quote, they would need to do a preliminary assessment at a charge of $750 plus tax. If I engaged All Pro, the amount would be deducted from the total cost of the work. At first, all seemed to go well, if a bit slowly. Angelo came out to do the assessment in mid-August. He made a couple of holes in a wood floor to see where the water might be coming in. The holes were covered with a layer of MDF (raised, not flush with the floor). Then nothing happened. I followed up for the quote, which I ultimately received on September 5, 2019. There were a couple of options for consideration and as I had some questions, on September 10, I contacted Angelo via email, who asked me to call him. I called the All Pro number a couple of times and left messages but did not hear back. Angelo said he never received the voicemails and we again exchanged emails on September 13. I followed up again and once again, never received a call, only an email on September 17 to once again try calling Angelo. After trying the number again several times, I decided to try to reach the other person cc-ed on the email correspondence, who was Tony. Tony emailed me on October 4 and told me Angelo was no longer with All Pro (although Angelo was still listed on the All Pro voice response system, was still on it in December and maybe still is). Tony asked me to resend him the emails, even though he had been copied on all of them and said he would have a look. I followed up again and received an email on October 28 saying that they were behind on things and Tony was still looking into the matter. Once again, I tried calling but never received a call back from All Pro. Finally, on December 4th I emailed once again and told Tony that I wanted my deposit back as I no longer wanted to work with All Pro given their poor service. I told Tony that if I received my refund by January 4, I would consider the matter settled. If I didn’t receive the refund, I would take any action available to me. Tony responded via email and said he would look into the matter and would get back to me “next week”. I sent a final reminder on December 28, 2019 but needless to say, received absolutely no response.

You might wonder about my neighbor as they initially recommended All Pro. I had noticed that the work All Pro had been contracted to do was not finished (and still isn’t as of January 6, 2020). All Pro never came back to finish his work either and when I last spoke with my neighbor in late November, he was in the process of writing complaint letters to the insurance company requesting that they send another contractor.

So to sum up:

1. All Pro took my deposit and never came back.
2. I never received a single phone call from All Pro over a 6 month period – only emails and only when I followed up.
3. I now have a couple of holes in my wood floor, which are just covered over with MDF, so in addition to being out $750 + tax, I have holes in my floor.
4. As it turned out, the main reason why the basement had water was because our rain barrel wasn’t properly collecting water; I set up the downspout again and we haven’t had water in the basement since.
5. I would absolutely never recommend this company and if your insurer engages All Pro to do work in response to a claim, consider requesting an alternate.

Approximate cost of services:
$15,000.00
