Number 1 Movers

BEWARE! This Company did not honour its commitment to our contract and then refused to make appropriate amends.

30 minutes before the movers were expected to arrive, they phoned to cancel the contract! We had engaged Number 1 Movers on April 14, confirmed on April 26, were set to move today starting at 9 am today, April 29, from a condo to storage. The lease on our condo is up tomorrow, April 30. In order to set up for the move, per our condo board's policies, we had to arrange the elevator, hire a security guard for 4 hours for the moving room's entrance to the building, at a cost to us of $107. We also made arrangements at the storage facility to receive our furniture. As well, we made arrangements with the landlord to hand over the keys tomorrow.

All was is in readiness, then 1/2 hour before the scheduled start of the move, we receive a phone call, and an email, "your upcoming move has been cancelled". Explanation: the movers had simply not shown up. The dispatcher was apologetic, but suggested we talk to customer service.

We scrambled to react to this unexpected development. The security guard was already arranged, so that cost was sunk. The condo administrator told us that the next available moving day for the condo is Monday, May 3. We talked with our landlord , who agreed to let us stay until the move is complete at a cost to us of $110 per night.

We then talked to Number 1 Movers, not to the owner, who refused to talk to us, but to a customer service agent. The agent, instructed by the owner, told us that they could arrange for the move to be done on Monday for a $60 discount. We proposed that we be reimbursed just for the out of pocket expenses caused by their failure to perform, $437, nothing for the inconvenience to us. They refused.

This company failed to perform. That's one thing; it happens to every person and company periodically. But once they failed to perform, they refused to make appropriate amends for their failure. That's deplorable. Based on our experience, we recommend that you STAY AWAY from this company.

I would recommend them, they were very professional arrived on time and the movers were very friendly. They were also the fairest price I could find as other companies quoted me a much higher price.

I had hired Number 1 Movers Hamilton for my recent move. The moving team is awesome. Not only was the price right for a move but they were very friendly, professional and efficient. They showed up right on time, and made the extra effort to ensure everything was packed carefully and arrived in the same condition as it left. Do not trust this company. No idea where the BBB ranking comes from.1. Move booked 5 weeks in advance, arrival time 0730-0830 (first available booking time in the AM), confirmed with the owner/operator 2 days prior to the move (important as needed to book the arrival elevator at the right time).
2. The afternoon before the move I got a call asking if the move could be delayed….answer was NO…elevator and pet transportation already booked based on the date/time of the contract, and I had come from out of town to assist my daughter and needed to return home.
3. Day of move: no signs of anyone by 0900, no answer on any of the business lines with a message saying they opened at 10 am...ie impossible to reach anyone to know if they were in fact going to arrive at all.
4. After finally hearing back from the owner (~0920), the movers ultimately arrived ~1025.
5. Moving van non-descript, not company labelled, back panel door not working properly, one panel actually falling off at the top.
6. No rug/floor runners laid down on arrival...nice footprint left on the rug...only after I asked did they use the blanket just removed from one item to lay down on part of the rug; much of the move had them walking on the rugs fully unprotected. (note website specifies they use runners).
Overall a very bad experience for which the owner took a grand total of $30 off my bill.

Our move was a complete disaster from start to finish. The movers were 2 hours late despite a reminder call 2 days before the move that the service elevator in the condominium was only available for a half day. We booked packing services as well a move and the movers showed up with no boxes except 2 used Uhaul wardrobe boxes which were battered and for which we had to pay $26 each. Because we could not finish the move within our allotted elevator time, we had to stand down for 2 hours until we could get the elevator back and as a result it took 10 hours for a move that was supposed to be completed within 7 hours. The only redeeming part of the entire move was the movers themselves. They were hard workers, very careful with our belongings and very embarrassed by the problems caused by the scheduler and company.

I hired number 1 movers to help me move from Toronto to Hamilton. The movers did a fantastic job as they were so kind, fast and efficient but most importantly they handled my belongings with care. They were extremely professional and I was glad to has such a smooth moving process due to this company. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for help to move.

While booking I was told I would receive a 10% student discount, hence I made the deposit. Once the move was over I was charged without the discount, called up customer service he said "We are not making money so we can't give you the discount."

I will never suggest this company to any person unless they want to be deceived upon. And I'll definitely be warning people in the student group where you have your hundreds of potential customers at McMaster University. 460$ for moving 4 furniture to a 5 minute away destination...

Your crew on the day of our move from Orangeville to Windsor were very professional and pleasure to be around.

Despite the extremely warm weather and the complications of such a long distance move Conrad, David, Ryan, Mikey and Derrell handled the move efficiently, effectively and with the utmost courtesy.

This is a very easy review to write because the men doing the work were some of the best moving muscle that I have ever used and I’ve moved at least 6 times. We had some tricky items and the guys treated them with special care and handled everything professionally and in a steady manner making sure not to eat up unnecessary billable time for us.

The Booking takes some getting used to because it’s not a traditional process which is great. I was expecting the usual sales rep to make an appointment and give a quote that would never be accurate. Instead it’s all done very quickly and easily online with a simple deposit!

The price they quote is very fair and the actual price to quote was only a $400 difference so I was pleased with their rates and the crew’s professionalism. Now here’s the big difference with Number 1 Movers Vs anybody else that I have ever used...the owners commitment to the customer and let me make it clear that I am not related to anyone with the company or employed by the company

Would I use them again...without hesitation and I recommend them 100% because if their commitment to the customer from top down

The team arrived on time and went straight to work. My freezer held 50 turkeys was old and immense. Removed with no damage to my walls. The other items were easy. The workers were very nice friendly and professional. They had their own tools and even repaired my screen door that they did not have too. Everything disposed of. I like that they try to recycle if possible. I would definitely recommend this firm and use them again. Thanks
