Simply Smart Home Inc. pursued us on a daily basis with phone calls to request access to our home in order to perform an annual spring maintenance of our furnace which we owned. An appointment was scheduled for Sunday March 20th, 2022, On that day Simply Smart Home Inc. manager Roman Shatokhin came into our home to perform the maintenance, he told us the furnace is old and need replacing, he then said the hot water tank have a buildup of calcium at the bottom like a kettle and needed changing. He offered us a package including Furnace, Air Conditioner, and Tank less water heater, and Attic Insulation, Duct Cleaning and Full House Security system all for $219.99 per month, along with an Enbridge rebate from $2400 to $2750 if we qualify. It sound attractive and I asked him for the details so I can discuss with my wife before committing, which he agreed to and informed me first they have to perform some inspections to see if we qualify.
On Monday March 21st 2022 Roman came with Lenny to perform an attic inspection to see if we qualify for the Enbridge rebate. On Tuesday March 22nd Roman came with Bhupinder Singh to perform inspection to see if an air condition unit can be installed, I had to leave for work while they were performing the inspection, my wife and son was at home, When I came home from work there was new furnace, new hot water tank and new air condition installed and a lot of electrical wires hanging from the electrical panel. They had removed our furnace and hot water heater and installed their own without permission, without first providing a written contract of terms of agreement.
On Wednesday March 23rd the electrician came to connect the air condition unit and informed us there's no space in the electrical panel to make the connection and a new panel will have to be installed for the air condition to work and offered to install a new panel for $1000. Cash, which we eventually ended up paying. Simply Smart Home Inc. installed an A/C knowing the electrical panel cannot accommodate the new wiring, also on March 23rd we received several emails from Simply Smart Home Inc. upon opening them they were automatically signed, it was the first time seeing any contracts, after reviewing with my wife we realize our son who has a mental condition and is vulnerable was cohoused and manipulated by Bhupinder into signing an electronic document, which was used as a signature on all the contracts which my son knew nothing about, within 48 hours of Simply Smart Home entering our home for a spring maintenance they managed to replace our equipment with theirs.
On Tuesday March 29th I emailed Simply Smart Home Inc. cancelling all contracts, on Thursday March 31st Roman came to discuss the cancellation and offered a buyout of $14,000 for the installed equipment which we declined and requested they remove all their equipment and return ours which he agreed to saying that they may not be in working condition when reinstalled. I filed a complain with the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services against Simply Smart Home Inc. who did open an investigation and encourage us to try and resolve the issue with the company.
After receiving several treats of collection and legal action from Simply Smart Home which we welcomed instead they scheduled a date Saturday July 16, 2022 to come and remove their equipment and reinstall ours in working order, instead they sent Libby Thomas who offered us a new contract with new pricing upon agreement to paying $2674.00 cash to have attic insulation installed in order to qualify for the Enbridge Home Efficiency Rebate which we paid on August 03, 2022. We feel we were forced, bullied into a rental agreement with Simply Smart Home when they removed our personally owned equipment without permission and replaced them with their own, to me this constitutes theft and extortion, we have made all monthly payments since the installation via Enbridge charges from other companies now they are trying to access our bank account directly by requesting we complete a Pre-Authorized Payment form or provide a void cheque to make the payment process more convenient for us. We refuse to comply and request they provide an alternate method of payment.
I am happy to see Enbridge sever ties with Simply Smart Home Inc. the association gives customers a false sense of security, a false sense of affiliation, recommendation, and endorsement as Simply Smart Home Inc. offer Enbridge rebates and other gadgets such as Nest thermostat and video doorbells etc. while conducting their illegal door to door sales, and have Enbridge collect payment on their behalf. I am sure the percentage Enbridge receive for collecting payments on Simply Smart Home behalf is not of much value to their shareholders. Simply Smart Home should be investigated for illegal door to door sales and other illegal business conduct violating consumers rights.
The Ministry of Government and Consumer Services offer very little assistance and do not go far enough to protect or assist seniors and people in vulnerable situations who are coerced, manipulated, and taken advantage of by companies that violate the Consumer Protection Act.
From our previous and continued firsthand experience with Simply Smart Home Inc. we would like the public to be aware of their devious door to door sales tactics, they reflect a very negative image, they lack integrity and conduct business in a very deceptive and borderline unlawful manner, be cautious if you have to do business with them, we will not recommend them to anyone.
