Floor tile in kitchen and hallway
I hired Salvatore from Decorem Tile and Stone to replace floor tile in my kitchen and hallway. The sales rep (John) from Sarana Tile store in Vaughan recommended him as a great professional who specialized in the type of tile we were purchasing from the store.
This turned out to be the most **horrible** experience in my entire kitchen reno project in every possible aspect. I don’t even know where to start, so I’ll just list what I can:
- The entire tile installation was delayed 5 days, impacting other trades which we had to reschedule
- The reason for delay was – apparently the dry pack foundation layer was not dry enough after standing for 4 days, which happened to be the hottest days of August. So the contractor left it standing for another 2 days
- Then instead of completing laying the tile in 2 days, as he originally promised, he took 5 days to cover an area of less than a 500sqft
- The contractor was very hard to deal with, very opinionated and not listening to what he is asked
- We agreed on a 50/50 payment schedule, with 50% up front and the rest at the end of the project. He started asking for payments mid-way, while not progressing in work. He knew we were pushed on time, as our kitchen installation date was coming up. So it felt like blackmailing, threatening to not complete the work at all and jeopardize the entire project unless he got paid
- The contractor ruined our security system wiring, just ripped the wires off the doorway
- Cut a hole in entry door casing, which we had to have carpenter fix afterwards
- Worst of all the craftsmanship of the work was very poor. Unleveled floor, huge gaps around door casings, inconsistent level of the seam line with the hardwood, etc. See the pictures of some of it.
I suspect the sales rep from Sarana Tile (John) has some kind of deal with the contractor, which is why he recommends him. Very poor customer service on Sarana Tile side!
- Approximate cost of services:
- $5,000.00
- Company Response
Would like to respond to Diana's review up top. First I like to talk about the waiting process when you are working with drypack concrete floor leveling. If you don't know and I always explain how the process goes with any home owners doing a project where it involves 24 x 24 and any other big tiles with wide spand along with rectified edges giving you a tite grout line joint it's considered a marble job which will take much more time to install the fact that the drypack process takes time to cure as I explained to Diana but she had a hard time understanding me and kept on ignoring everything I tried to tell her she just wouldn't listen the fact that she had a better opinion from Siri or google trust the computer very good. The floor in the kitchen was straightened out and leveled to the best ready for the tile installation as I made sure the drypack cracked open and cured properly so that the tiles will not shift and the grout lines will not crack 6 months from now as for any carpentry work regarding any baseboard it is not part of my job and the tile setter did not install any trim or baseboard that was the work of the home owner choose a better trim that will cover that looks like a subdivision trim and for damages on any existing trim all the old trim was already pulled off before I arrived once again it's the work of the homeowners trying to save money and I understand any penny you try to save pays the bills. Let's talk about the time it took me to install 500 sq ft well you forgot to mention that I worked all the way threw the weekend putting my family aside and 5 days is not bad for a job well done having been reviewed on other sights all I get thumbs up. The story being high jacked I think it was the other way around needing more time for your drywall crew as the delayed me and threw my schedule off but I made it work. The finished product meeting to the hardwood floors Diana knows the hardwood floors are original and were not replaced as the hardwood Floors in the others rooms are not leveled so please don't create anymore dramma I did my best but you needed a motivate to cut or hold on the the final balance but there was nothing to find a job well done and as for any security cables we do come out and take care of any issues that occurred during installation I did not get one phone call regarding any issues mentioned above the 50 50 agreement I don't know what you are talking about a payment was asked which is a third down and another third halfway threw the job and the rest upon completion which is much better never give half down sorry to say . As for John at Sarana tile I bring him people and if he has any reffeels he helps out a lot of people just like you and save lot of money before doing any mistakes . Thank you there is no kick backs there just hard honest working people .... thank you John at saranatile in Vaughn. Quality controlled tiles for your home. .... cheers everyone and piece......... from Decorem tile and stone installation to the best.
