I give this review after watching GCA Construction Inc and comparing the engineers design to the actual events. I felt that I needed to post this review, since many people spend thousands of dollars for an engineer to properly design their foundation requirements and then the plans are not followed. Such is the case in this review. My experience of 12 years in the engineering field & 30+ years in construction management provides me with the experience to make this opinion. GCA did not follow the plans & specifications outlined in the engineer’s design in this one reviewed case. They obvious took short cuts to save time and money. The end result of their short cuts could result in failure of the design in the coming years. Persons getting engineered foundation design should get an inspection by the engineer prior to backfilling, it’s worth the money. This would apply not just to GCA but any other contractor following design plans. Let’s you sleep at night knowing the work was done properly. GCA also has some serious safety issues for workers and surrounding properties.

Before this project, we had severe cracking around our front window resulting in it and the front door unable to close properly. At an engineer's recommendation, we requested quotes from several contractors to install screw piles along 2 sides of the house with weeping tile and waterproof membrane. The results have held up well over 4 years now. They started and finished on time, as well as doing an extra excavation to replace our sewer pipe from the house to the city line while they had everything else dug up next to it.
The lack of top marks is due to the fact that we believe the screwpiles were shorter than the engineer's report suggested, though he seemed to be in cahoots with them and OK'd it. The workers were quite rough which we try to avoid with little children around. Out of the four contractors that we got quotes from, GCA was our second choice. The #1 that we wanted was booked up for the whole season; and the others we had bad 'gut' feels about just from talking to them; so overall I don't think we did too badly.
