We are renovating a bungalow built in 1947. It has original hardwood floors in every room except the kitchen, which was linoleum tile and stairs covered in filthy carpet. The original flooring had never been previously refinished, and several squeaking spots had been "repaired" with screws straight into the floor. It also was a non-standard width that isn't commonly used anymore.

We hired Bull Tough Floors to refinish the existing hardwood, install new, matching hardwood in the kitchen and on the stairs and patch the damaged hardwood. Ky also had to track down flooring that was the same non-standard width.

We were extremely impressed by the quality of the workmanship and attention to detail. The updated floors are beautiful and full of character, and the transitions between original and new are virtually invisible. I left a message at Bull Tough Flooring that was returned that evening. Then Ky told me he was on his honeymoon and was phoning from Thailand! Very impressive that he would take a moment just to touch base from halfway around the world.

We talked on the phone for ten minutes or so and Ky explained how he expected the job to go and when he returned, he showed up on the day we'd agreed on, and did the floors just as he said. There was one blemish that he missed which was promptly repaired.

A big part of the project was getting the stairs to match the rest of the floor. If you are thinking of doing this, be aware that there are options. Do you want just the tread and nosing finished? Do you want to add the riser or the stringer or the handrail? I wanted it all, but when Ky advised me on how much it would cost, I had to rethink it. As it turned out, I did about sixteen hours of sanding myself, which allowed Ky to do it as cheaply as he could. Stuff you need to think about, and which Ky will be very willing to help you with.

I chose a natural finish. This is going to sound a little stupid, but I must admit that the finish surprised me. I had seen so many red oak floors that I thought oak was naturally golden red, so I had thought that golden red was what I was getting. In fact, the natural finish is much lighter. But the funny thing is the longer I am with this floor, the more I appreciate its lightness, not just in colour but also in "weight". It feels light and airy, and I love it!

Unfortunately, our house cleaners created a rather large dent in our floor. Within a couple hours we had Ky from Bull Tough Flooring booked to come down for the repair. Luckily, we had spare boards. He managed to cut out the board and fit in a replacement in under an hour! Great work! Now the new board looks better than the other boards so we might have to get the entire floor done - and when we do, we'll definitely use Ky!

House built in 1961-I did a complete renovation on the main floor of my house and was told that the hardwood underneath was in mint condition so I decided to remove the carpet and go with the hardwood. I started out just wanting the dining/kitchen but it ended up being the staircase, and 2 hall ways as well. I thought I new what I wanted with the colour but after meeting with Ky and with his attention to detail and extensive knowledge of staining and the way the different types of woods react, I ended up going with a different colour. He did a fantastic job feathering in the old with the new and it is absolutely beautiful! I get a lot of comments on how great it looks!

After doing some online research and calling around, I ended up going with Bull Tough to refinish the main floor and stairwell of my house. It is an older house that had worn out pre-finished Maple hardwood, and all of the first estimates I received were pricey and convoluted. Ky was very easy to deal with from the first phone call, and transparent with the price and timeline of the project. The front door was by far the worst area, and not only does it look fantastic now, but Ky had no concerns at all during the initial walk through. He gave me confidence in his workmanship from the beginning, and definitely delivered.

We found Bull Tough through google. Can't speak highly enough about Ky! The hardwood in our 1960's home was on its last legs. Other estimators came in and wouldn't touch it. "Too thin" they would say, "You will need to put in new hardwood". The quoting process with Ky was professional, straight forward and very fair!
