IKO Shingles - horrible experience

In 2009 we had Professional Roofers strip off our roof shingles and replace them with “IKO Premium Roofing Dual Brown Roofshake 40yr” shingles. Within 9 years, the roof had been damaged and repaired FIVE times; the first repair was required in 2014 and the last in 2018. Our home is the only one on our street that has suffered consistent damage. Our neighbour has an identical house yet he has not experienced any shingle damage since he used a different shingle product. Professional roofers did these repairs for free, but in 2018, they sent us a quote for having the roof redone at a substantial cost.

We asked IKO to refund a fair and reasonable portion of the 2009 installation costs as their product: a) failed to deliver on their advertised 40 year expected lifespan, and b) consistent failures had caused us a great deal of stress and could have resulted in substantial damage to our home. After numerous emails between ourselves and IKO they refused indicating the replacement needed to be authorized by IKO prior to installation. In essence, their warranty requires you to purchase failure prone IKO shingles, albeit at a reduced cost.

As no sane person would re-shingle their home's roof at great expense with an IKO product that was shown to be failure prone, and needing to repair our roof quickly to avoid structural damage to our home, in early 2018 we had the roof re-shingled with a metal product.

IKO crap

Installed a 40 year Chateau IKO crap shingle and in less than 13 years it is done.
IKO of course is nowhere to be found to honour their useless prorated warranty.
Consumers beware. look at other shingles and make sure they are not IKO under another name.

ROOFING WARRANTY

IKO Warranty has made it impossible to make a reasonable claim for (minor) wind damage to IKO shingles.

IKO shingles were installed on my new home with a wind rating warranty. After a wind storm where the wind speed was less than the warranty rating a few shingles blew off of the roof (see attached photo). The warranty stated that the shingles would be replaced and installed under the warranty. Unfortunately, you have to mail some damaged shingles to IKO warranty for their review (along with pictures) for a decision to be made on my claim. The cost of sending IKO warranty two shingles is cost prohibitive as compared to the cost of a package of shingles (approximately $22.00). I was simply hoping that the photos of my roof would have been enough to satisfy IKO warranty that my roof has in fact sustained wind damage. My offer of one IKO voucher for one package of IKO Cambridge AR shingles so that I can repair my roof and save IKO the cost of having a company repair my roof was rejected by IKO warranty.

IKO's claims process is cost prohibitive and apparently inflexible. I was hoping that IKO warranty would have seen this from my (the customer) perspective and simply provide me with one IKO voucher for one package of Cambridge AR shingles.

IKO warranty has failed with respect to reasonable customer service.

roofing

IKO failed to honour the 25 year warranty for a roof installed in 1999.
Be aware that a class action suit is now under way in both Ontario and some U.S. states.

Blow off IKO shingles after 7 years - poor quality product

installed 7 years ago new roof with expensive 25 year warranty shingles, winter guard etc, by smart roofing company Mississauga. Send 2 blow off samples given to me by the roofer to IKO Brampton. Received after 60 days response that the shingles are in good quality and any blow off warranty expires after 5 years. My warranty request is declined. Smart roofing company was not very helpful in this matter and the installed temporary patch did not hold. A class action lawsuit against IKO and the bad shingles quality is pending in the ontario superior court. Stay away from any IKO products and I can not recommend smart roofing either.

Roofing material

Before and after purchasing my roofing products at Roofmart I was assured that IKO products were of the highest quality. One year after installation the roof caps started cracking. I called the warranty line, sent them pictures of the problem. They have not even attended the installation to see what is going on. My inquiries are ignored completely and it has been one more year since I brought it to their attention.

shingles for roof

after four years i had to replace to this product. iko wouldn't come forward to honor their 25 year warrenty. iko claimed that the shingles didn't last because of shortcomings of the installers. i had to send in samples - iko never revealed what was found. the shingles cracked and deteriorated very quickly. the company was very hard to deal with and did not follow up with me. the warrenty department has very poor business practices.
