My house had a problem with sewer gas and I suspected that the upstairs toilet was responsible as it had been a problem for a while. Jeff found that the toilet wasn't the cause of the smell, but that it did need fixing as it hadn't been securely bolted to the floor. Fixing that problem took some doing as it was difficult to remove the old bolts and add new ones. While he was working on the toilet, he mused that I should check the traps in the basement apartment. Turns out, it was the basement shower trap that was causing the problem. Issues resolved. Thanks Jeff.
