Replacement of front door and side door
I had a good experience with Myron when it came to the sale of the doors. The installers arrived when Myron said they would arrive for the side door and they installed it properly. They were a day late installing the front door, which I had no issue with as Myron called me to let me know ahead of time. I was very pleased when the front door was installed and paid Myron in full. I also recommended Aztech to a couple of friends.
Unfortunately this is where the good experience ended. As I had custom casings in my house Myron advised that I could purchase the casing and he would stain it the same colour as the door. Since the door was already installed I told Myron that my finish carpenter could install the casings. While my finish carpenter was installing the other casings throughout the house he pointed out that the front door was not installed plumb/level and that the top of the door rubbed up against the frame when you opened or closed it. He showed me how this would affect the installation of the casing and that there would be a big gap behind the casing on one side.
I called Myron to let him know and he immediately started saying that it was impossible and that somebody must have moved the door frame. I assured Myron that no one had moved the door frame and that I wasn't sure how the door would move after it was installed??
Myron came by to have a look and I showed him with a level how the frame was not plumb/level. He advised that his way of confirming that the door was installed properly was to test if the door would not move when opened 45 degrees. I advised Myron that this did not matter and that the frame needed to be installed plumb/level and the door straightened. He started ranting on how they were the professionals and that I was not a professional installer and that if they straightened the frame that it would void the "lifetime" warranty. I argued that installing the frame correctly should not void the warranty and that I wanted the frame and door installed properly. He begrudgingly agreed to send his installer to correct the issues.
The installer arrived and tightened the screws on the top hinge to straighten the door and moved the frame on the right side out as much as possible. (the stone on the outside of the house would not allow it to be pushed out more) He said that this was the best he could do and apologized saying that he did not know how this happened. I accepted the installation as he left it. I had already purchased my casing and the installer took it back with him to have it stained.
A few days later I noticed that the door was rubbing up against the frame at the top again. I called Myron to let him know and to find out if my casings were stained. He told me that I can go pick up the casings from the factory if I wanted them and after much arguing he advised that the door was no longer under warranty, but that he would do me a favour and send the installer to correct the hinge/door. I also asked that the installer install the brick molding and casing as I would go pick them up.
I was not home when the installer arrived but my father was there. He advised that the installer came and left within minutes and all he did was tighten the screws on the hinge again, which did not fix the door. He did not install the casings or the brick moulding. When I arrived home I texted Myron advising that the door was still not fixed and at this point that I would hire a professional to install the door correctly. He advised that he wanted $150 for the staining of the casing which was supposed to be included and that I had to go pick up. I paid a carpenter $400 to remove the door and re-install it correctly and when he was installing the casing we noticed that the back part of the casing was not even stained.
Bottom line: You could get lucky with a good installation from Aztech, but they are definitely not professional door installers and won’t honour the lifetime warranty. If anybody wants to contact me, for more pictures or information, I can be reached at nelson_lopes@hotmail.com
