In 2020 we contracted Sam & Planet Home Improvement to renovate our main floor. He promised to finish the job in 3 weeks. It took him over 8 weeks to finish. Sam did not show up for work every day. He was focused on asking for money ahead of schedule. We were nice at the beginning, acceded to his many requests for cash advances and time extensions to complete the project. He threaten us that he'd would not pay his staff if we didn't advance the money. On the positive side, he would clean up the work area each day.
He was unprofessional when we reviewed the work in progress and would get defensive and raise his voice to the point we felt uncomfortable dealing with him. We were glad when he finished the job.
We would not recommend doing business with Sam and Planet Home Improvement due to his unprofessional behavior and poor quality of work.

Based on the many Homestars positive reviews, we contracted Sam & Planet to finish our basement, renovate a 2nd floor ensuite bathroom and a few minor things. He promised to finish the job in 8 weeks.

Sam did not show up for work every day, and always wanted money ahead of schedule. We were too nice to him at the beginning, acceded to his many requests for advances, and gave him second, third, fourth and many chances to complete the project. After 16 weeks (2x the 8 weeks he promised) of repeated broken promises and excuses, the project was nowhere near completion. We fired Sam, even though we had paid him more than 100% of the contract price by then.

We had to hire another contractor to finish the basement and all outstanding work. Second contractor estimated that Sam completed only 70% of the job. We also realized subsequently Sam did not pay all his trades for the work done even though we had paid him.

We would not recommend doing business with Sam and Planet Home Improvement.

We started this project by looking for multiple contractors for different portion of the project (pluming, tiles, counter, paint, etc...). However, at the end we realized there is way too many things to manage and take care of and too many contractors to schedule with.

Planet Home Improvement did a great job by showing us their typical process and time line for the project. When the project started their team covered parts. of the house to keep it clean and make it easy for their team to move the material. They used a bin outside of the house to keep all material and garbage organized.

They finished the renovation ontime and per their original budget. Now my two kids have a nice functional new bathroom

I had the pleasure to work with Sam and his team on two occasions (summer 2017, winter 2018). Sam’s prices were fair and he respected the prices quoted. The deadline given was missed but a workaround timeline was then set so we could both be happy with the delay. I found the best way for both of us to be satisfied with the work being done was to be detailed and to discuss the work ahead of time while setting expectations. He was able to provide good suggestions and was also able to take feedback. If an item was not exactly how I had imagined it, he was able to redo or fix the item in question. Sam was also good at troubleshooting and resolving issues.

He also recommended to work with Potlight Experts which was a very good suggestion and it helped transform our space with lighting.

Where I would say Planet Home Improvement could improve a little would be in the attention to finishing detailed work.

All in all, I would work with Sam and Planet Home Improvement on another project.

Planet Home Improvement did a fantastic job. Every time a person visits our home the first thing people say is our home looks like a picture you see on a home improvement magazine. We basically renovated the whole main floor of our home. We started off with a design and Sam worked with us giving us many ideas/recommendations that resulted in a perfect main floor renovation. He and his team were courteous and clean and I did not have to worry about one thing. This was a stress free renovation and I would recommend Planet Home Improvement to everyone.

Condo bathroom renovations done well. Easy process and Sam cleaned up everything after the job is done.

After visiting my home Sam gave me EXCELLENT ideas for my home upgrade and basement including entertainment area, my office and for the closet, I did go with his ideas because that gave me better utilization of my space with delicate design. His work was very professional, clean and he paid attention to details.

Sam did a great job modernizing our two-level basement condo. He was very collaborative and thoughtful about the process. While a lot of contractors say no to client ideas, Sam finds ways to get things done. Super happy with the on-budget results and would happily recommend Sam to anyone who asks! Not comfortable disclosing cost on the Internet!!
