Granite countertop

Frank showed us the warehouse and picked the slab. They added our name on the slab. We negotiated the price. Great workman ship, precision work, manually and electronically measured. Flexible in the finishing choices and timing ... promptly delivered.

3 pieces of the counter-top took 3 guys to bring the granite in and installed and sealed in few hours. Great stuff.

Granite Countertops

Thank you for accomodating my request to have my granite countertops measured and installed on a weekend. And most of all, these are done within the confines of my budget. The phrase "I AM VERY SATISFIED" is an understatement. Your customer service from granite selection to installation is EXCELLENT. I highly recommend your company to my friends, in fact I've already given your contact number to one of them who is thinking of having granite countertops in her kitchen. Again, THANK YOU!

Granite Counter & Sink

Looks like there are some negative reviews, so I figured I would weigh in with my recent experience.

I am very pleased with Provincial Granite! I went to about 5 different companies when my kitchen renovation started. I was amazed at how some companies seemed almost annoyed with your presence or wanted you to select granite based on a 2x2 square sample on a showroom wall. It was a different story at Provincial. I was able to go to the back and actually look at the large slabs and select my piece. We went over the approximate dimensions and I was given a reasonable quote. The measurement was scheduled, and I was met at my house at the exact time we scheduled. I cannot stress how important this is to me. Trying to manage a renovation while not living in the house, having a service provider show up on time is gold! All the measurements were done and any quirks due to my 100 year old home were discussed and we agreed on some specifics. When it came time to delivery, again the guys came out right on time! They worked quickly and efficiently, cleaning everything they touched. All the little customizations were done to perfection - even some little alterations I decided to make at the last minute. They even helped me move appliances around just so I could see how things looked. They applied the sealer and gave me a lot of great information on how to best maintain the granite. I was also given some interesting ideas on lighting to best highlight the unique colours of the granite. They made sure I was happy with everything before they packed up their tools and gave me the final bill.

I understand that each persons experience with a company is unique, but I really find it hard to believe some of the reviews here. I think it's all about managing your expectations. Don't blame the furnace repair man if your windows leak heat. Don't blame the plumber if your electrical wiring is faulty. Granite is a very expensive and tough product to work with. Understand how every aspect of your kitchen comes into play...walls, cabinets, backsplash, etc. Do your work and discuss your expectations up front. From my experience with Provincial, you should be pleased with the results.

Granite installation

I had a similar experience to your most recent submission. I dealt with Joe to book the granite (hadnt had the pleasure of meeting Frank yet!) and Joe came out to measure. I was very clear that granite on cabinets next to fridge had to be flush with cabinet ie no overhang due to narrow fridge opening. I had searched high and low for a small enough fridge and put a 29" fridge in a 31 inch opening. Joe said no problem and I thought everything was ok. I paid 1/3 of the cost (as asked) on booking and rest of payment was not discussed other than remainder was due when job completed. When installed (Nov 8/12), it looked ok although I did point out overhang to installers (Alberto) and said it was supposed to be flush. Discovered later that evening that I could not open to fridge door without the fridge being squashed into the granite and making a mark on my new stainless fridge. On day of installation, I advised installer that i would go to the office the next day (was 3:30pm when installers left and I had to return to the office for our Directors' goodbye) at which time he called Frank who grilled him about how I was going to pay. When I advised part on credit, part by cheque, he advised that they only take certified cheques. I told him that perhaps he should have mentioned this beforehand as it appeared to be a big deal that I was going to pay the next day. On the morning after installation, I emailed a picture to Frank of the overhang and stated that fridge door wouldnt open - he initially stalled and said that I had signed off on it the day before but finally agreed the guys would come and "grind it down". He seemed to be more focused on when I was going to come in and pay him than the job being done to my satisfaction. I got the remaining amount due in cash and was planning to stop by on my way home to pay provincial granite. Emailed installer and asked him to send me a picture of rectified countertop. Got call from Frank stating that I was trying to get out of paying and trying to renegotiate things and stating that they couldnt send a picture as the installer was now on another job. (He took pics the previous day before he left so I assumed he did the same today). Frank went on to say that if I hadnt bought such a "huge" fridge it wouldnt be a problem and was the most unprofessional, rude person I have ever encountered. He sent me probably 20 emails threatening to come and pick up "his product" and told me he was going to send the bailiff to get his granite etc. etc. also threatened to sue me, send my account to a collection agency etc. etc. This is now a horrific experience for me and I would never deal with these people again. I dont even really want their granite in my home. I was hoping to get a better response from Joe when he returns for vacation on Nov 16 however Frank has already threatened that Joe will not take not being paid lightly and will harrass me so I'm not hopeful after reading of the previous reviewer's experience with Joe. It is sad that people can make what should be an exciting and positive experience turn into such a nightmare! I actually called another very reputable granite company and ran this whole scenario by them to see if I was the crazy one. They told me that their customers have 7 days to pay after installation as they want their customer to live with the installation for a week to see if any changes need to be done. I wish now I had dealt with them. My issue was NEVER about payment but wanting to ensure the job was properly done before final payment was made. When a company insists on 100% payment before you get a chance to ensure everything is ok, BEWARE!!! There's a reason.

Unfortunately the information provided in this review from the client has been completely altered from what actually occurred. I won't get into specifics as it would take too long, but at the end of the day the client was very rude and abrasive with all of our staff, making this entire exercise a personal vendetta. The granite countertop that was installed was perfect, this is quoted from the client herself, she just made this a personal issue....I guess everyone has bad days and takes it out on the wrong people.

Granite Countertop and Backsplash installation

Upon purchasing my granite (Sept. 18), I was instructed that a representative from Provincial Granite/Atlas Stone and Tile would need to come out and measure the counters as well as look at the walls to determine if they were straight enough or were going to cause an issue. I was instructed to have the countertop off when the representative came in order for them to check the wall.

Sept. 24 - representative (Joe) came to measure and I was informed by him that the walls were relatively straight and that they should not cause a problem.

Oct. 15 - backsplash installed and was too short; left a large gap between the top of the countertop backsplash and the ceramic tile on the kitchen wall. After installers called office they stated they would replace the granite backsplash with another one. I was told I needed to sign the forms now and pay in full (by credit card). Had installer (Alberto) write this on my contract.

Oct. 22 – Installers (Alberto and Joel) installed new backsplash. Backsplash now has a half inch gap between it and the wall ceramic tile i.e. it is sticking out from the wall by half an inch. Installers stated it was reasonable and to apply a caulking in between and paint it to match. After they left, I looked at it and realized the gap is too large to caulk since the caulking would just fall in behind. Second I could not paint the caulking to match the ceramic on the wall or the granite since both are not solid colours.

Oct. 24 - Spoke with Sales Repr. (Frank) and he said he received a different story and would like installers on the call. Also suggested I research this issue and would determine that he was correct. When he called back at approx. 6 p.m. we tried to discuss the matter but were unsuccessful in agreeing on a solution. There were eventually 4 people on the call from Provincial Granite (Frank, Joe, Alberto and Joel) and myself. At times they were talking over one another and myself. The discussion deteriorated to the point of derogatory comments being made about me. Joe was crude and then stated “I didn’t know who I was dealing with”. Shortly after this statement they hung up the phone on me.

The solutions they had suggested; caulk the area and paint it, pay a contractor to remove my ceramic tile/build out the wall or just live with it are not acceptable answers. I do not believe I should be paying someone to move out part of my wall to accommodate the poor installation of the backsplash (the first installation that was too short did not have this gap). Creating an eye sore with the caulking is also not a reasonable alternative either. After paying $2,938 I do not believe just living with it is an acceptable alternative. If this was going to be an issue, why was this not discussed prior to the contract or during the measurement? Why did the first backsplash fit much better against the wall and not have a large gap at the wall? If my wall is so crooked, why did it not affect the first installation? Why when I researched the issue did it state directly that a ½ inch gap was not acceptable and the installer should correct it?

Bev, yes we did measure for your countertops, yes we installed a 3`backsplash as well. We were not contracted to complete a kitchen renovation. The extent of our work was the granite. We cannot be responsible for out of square walls which is the case in your house, you also signed our contract agreement which states all of this clearly. As we discussed for a long period of time during our conference call, ``GRANITE DOES NOT BEND`` which we tried to explain to you. My installers also educated you at the time of installation and you were aware of your out of square wall issues. To answer your question about the original backsplash...it was measured perfectly, but the installers did want to install the 3/4`build up under your countertop to save you from seeing the wood strip(issue related to your cabinets), this in turn left the original backsplash 3/4" shorter (this may be to technical for you to understand but we did try to explain this to you as well on the phone). We automatically made you a larger backsplash to fit the proper height. in conclusion, the cause for your gaps, is out of square walls which we cannot fix...once again this complaint has NOTHING to do with the granite or the quality of workmanship, it is 100% related to the walls in your house. Please feel free to contact me with any further questions regarding the granite and the workmanship.

Granite counter

The granite counter was for a kitchen remodel to help sell our house, the counter was cut short so I'm not happy with the fit, it means I'm going to have to tile backsplash an area that I really didn't want to in order to hide the gap.

I'm happy with quality of the granite itself and once I've added the extra backsplash it will look great, but that is something that I shouldn't of had to do.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for your input and we appreciate your review. I would however like to clear up a few concerns regarding your comments about the granite being short. Firstly, when we measured the kitchen countertop there was an existing backsplash with existing drywall (we based our measurements on those dimensions). At the time of installation, I noticed that the backsplash tile and existing drywall was removed and new drywall was installed. This had obviously altered the measurements of our granite pieces. Secondly, it is very common to always install some sort of backsplash tile or backsplash granite along the back side of the countertop because there is always going to be gaps,I have never met a straight wall where there isn't any gaps, hence the backsplash tile or granite backsplash hides these gaps.

I am glad that you are happy with the work, and the service we provided. I just wanted to clarify why the slight gaps occurred. Like you mentioned, the easiest solution is to install the backsplash tile along the underside of the window, which is common practice in our industry.
