Kitchen countertops

Apparently when you sign their waiver stating Customer acknowledges that patterns will not match at seams and bolder patterns will be more visible at seams. All seams will be seen and felt (except Corian seams, which will not be felt.) This also applies to laminated edges. this gives them the right to do shoddy work. While there is nothing wrong with the build quality, they screwed up the corner by running the grain of the corner in the total opposite direction then used the clause to get around it. DO NOT SIGN THE WAIVER BEFORE YOU SEE THE FINISHED WORK. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY

Poor measuring on countertop

I spent a large amount on countertops for my kitchen and bathrooms. While the kitchen counters worked out well, I would not recommend this company for the reason I experienced. The person who measured, MISSED a huge part of my bathroom countertop. He had me sign the form at the end WITHOUT going over the final measurements with me. I had ASSUMED he would of included the pork chop piece of the bathroom counter, but completely missed it! I didn’t even notice it was missing until after it was installed and by then it was too late. They offered to make a shelf but I would of been responsible for mounting it. Mounting a very heavy piece of material is not what I am experienced doing, nor it would of looked esthetically pleasing. The bottom line is they should review measurements before having customers quickly sign off documents. This review would not have been left of they had offered to replace the whole counter. Very disappointed and dissatisfied as I’m now left with something I didn’t want.
See photo: how would the guy that measured this would think I’d not want the continuation of the counter?
Poor service.

Very satisfied with this company and the product. We chose Silestone in Desert Silver. It looks amazing in our kitchen and bar. The installers were on time and very professional and personable as well. We would not hesitate to recommend this company and this product.

Quartz Kitchen Countertops

Silestone kitchen countertops. Good final product, a long time coming. Total time booking a measurement to install was about 8 weeks.

For the most part, the process is transparent and up front but there are some things customers should be aware of:
1) The budget estimate I received was based on square footage from measurements I supplied, but drastically underestimated the area, and cost, compared to the final quote by a couple thousand dollars.
2) The process is contracted out to a third party, and communication between HD office, the local HD store, and the supplier is almost non-existent. I received inconsistent direction from all parties through the entire process.
3) The product is 2 cm thick and all kitchen displays use the 4cm thick double edge. I found 3 cm thick is more common. This was not apparent until they came to complete measurement. I was told that I could select either thickness AFTER measurement but before payment. When I called (all three parties) to update the quote, they called back a week later to book a remeasurement. When the technician arrived to remeasure, he said there was no change and no remeasurement was required.
4) The thicker product means the overhangs, such as at a bar, can't be as long without support underneath.
5) This change in edge thickness resulted in some confusion at the supplier. When they arrived the first time to complete the install, the backing was not installed to establish the correct height and they could not complete the install. They were unable to install the backing at site and had to rebook.
6) Final install was complete and looks good, but I am a little surprised about the undermount sink. They glued it to the bottom of the countertop with no other support, which I found out later is not what is recommended by the sink manufacturer. This will likely make it very difficult to replace the sink without also replacing the countertops. I guess time will tell.

The work was excellent and the only problem I had was my realtor was not where he said he was going to be to let the people in for the measurements as I didn't have access to the property yet . I had to pay again for them to come back . My realtor was 35 minutes away. I understand that the countertop people have to make money but it was a bummer that they didn't that.

Kitchen Renovation

Took them over a month back and forth replacing badly cut slabs.. and the funny part, their measuring guy, who happen to have the worst customer service skills, blamed his bad measurements on our walls and cabinets!
They never answer the phone or return a voice mail, after a month of frustration we received a lousy $200 credit! We probably spent double that amount on ready made food because we couldn't use our kitchen during that month. I would never hire them again or recommend them to anyone. Check out the pictures, and don't make the same mistake we did!

Kitchen Renovation

My recommendations / experience w/ Valley Countertops;
1 - Never may entire payment in advance.
2 - Do not initial the clause indicating you will have a visible seam, on the contract sheet. My wife signed this, expecting professional work. This is just an excuse for poor design and workmanship.
3 - Do not expect "the big box store" to take the customer's side in a dispute with their sub-contractor. The big box " kitchen specialist" said there was no problem with our countertop. The seam was placed in a most conspicuous place and not match at all. This was with man-made material, not natural stone which would be hard to match.
4 - Valley said they could not put seam where the stovetop would be, and only a few inches would show at the top & bottom. My neighbors have the seam at the stove top.
5 - Their initial price quote is low, to have them chosen, with the caveat that the price might change after final measurements. It did. The size of the countertop was significantly reduced, but the price still increased???
6 - Valley was in a hurry to take the measurement after the cabinets were installed, then the day after the contract was signed they informed us that they didn't have the tool for the edging which had been agreed. This delayed the whole project for several weeks.
7 - Suggested to Home Depot that they should do a better job of vetting their sub-contractors, but they are probably still using them.
8 - Communication was poor, and no specific information concerning the procurement of the edging tool required or timing to help schedule other services involved in the kitchen renovation.
9 - The only positive thing I can say, was the workers in Calgary did their job to the best of their abilities, which was within their control. The problem was the design and office staff, and big box store ( the main contractor) having to be pushed and dragged into the process to try and rectify problems with their supplier.

Finally - We began very accommodatingly, flexible and paid in advance w/o quibbling....big mistake. We will never use either for renovations again.

I hope this saves the next unsuspecting Valley Countertops customer all the problems and frustrations we experienced.

Countertop Installation

I am thrilled with the whole process from start to completion with Valley Countertops.
From the measuring to the installation, Crystal who went above and beyond made the tight timeline happen . I cannot thank you enough Crystal. Kevin was so precise with the measuring done by lazer which made the install by Barry seamless. The countertop looks seamless too. All in all I cannot recommend this team enough. Thank you. I love my countertops and appreciate the knowledge and professionalism by all people involved.

Installation issues

Currently having this issue with Valley Countertops. The first install resulted in one piece not fitting correctly so they took it back and recut it. The next piece that came was 1) clearly cut incorrectly and 2) mismatched in colour but they still proceeded to install it. I've been dealing with them since July and it's still not to a satisfactory level. The guys who came to measure and install the counters are pleasant and seem to know what they are doing. Crystal, who is the customer service rep, seems to be working but I would say isn't providing the level of customer service I'd expect from when you're purchasing a $5000 countertop. Maybe she has pressure from the management to keep recuts/reinstalls low, I don't know. You'll see the mismatch in edging which Crystal says is "industry standard". She offered a $100 Home Depot gift certificate for the "inconvenience". You can be the judge whether this is the type of product you would pay $5000 and whether this is what you would expect for your home. I'm hoping they will work to resolve the issue after having to deal with this purchase for 4 months.
