The Mold Guy, Mold Detection & Removal

My fiancee was diagnosed with a chronic illness not too long ago, and I was warned by several health professionals that mold was one of the worst things for his immune system and could make his symptoms worse. After doing some research online and reading the Mold Guy's great reviews, I called them up to do an air quality test. As other people on HomeStars have mentioned, Kay was incredibly caring and efficient and took the time to explain the whole process to me. Ross was professional and also very knowledgeable and alerted me to several moisture issues around our apartment. Thankfully, our air test came out clean and we didn't need to deal with the stress of approaching our landlord about remediation. We are a Renovation company named D4L Inc. We have used Ross and crew for many of our projects. They are reliable, honest and trustworthy company. The crew is easy to get along with and they take pride in cleaning up after themselves in every job. Before and after photos and the Mold removal document they give after every job is comforting to clients who are physically unable to see any completed attic jobs. From an attic FULL of black mold, to an attic looking brand new, The Mold Guy saved the day!!!! Upon selling our seven year old home, the home inspector found quite a bit of mold, and remediation/removal was required in order for the sale to be completed. We called a remediation company referred by a friend whom gave us three options: 1) paint our entire attic with a special white removal paint (approx $5k, also making mold issue very apparent to future buyers) 2) remediation, taking 4 weeks and $40k or 3) removing and replacing full roof. He recommended option 3. We were devastated to say the least. Our home was quite new and we were absolutely unaware of the issue. Now it could cost us a huge sum of money and most probably interfere with the sale of our home. I started to google mold removal before and after pictures and stumbled upon 'The Mold Guy' on Homestars. I couldn't believe my eyes - could they really removal all the mold and have the attic looking like it never was there? I called Kay, in tears, pretty much hysterical. She calmed me down, explained the full process, and promised to send some guys to do the work over the long weekend, on their day off! Her men came and were prompt, curtious, professional and cleaned the whole attic in 4 hours!!!! And the attic seriously looks brand new! More importantly, they found the cause of the mold issue (lack of ventilation) and fixed it for free! We went from pricing out a new roof at $25000 to simply having hold removed for $2000. If you are in a similar predicament, I urge you to call Kay and just ask for information on their process. Thank goodness I followed my gut and didn't give up in finding a better solution! Lucas and his team were wonderful. They were professional and friendly, immediately felt comfortable with the team. They worked fast to get the job done, they left no mess behind it was as if they weren't even there! Excellent service from my first communication with Kay over the phone who walked me thru the entire process and provided a quote over the phone. The job took just as long as was initially communicated, and cost did not change once the job was done. I would highly recommend this team to anyone. Thank you mold guy!

My attic floor is around 700 sft, all east side roof sheathing ply wood had black-colored mold stain and mold growing for

years -- but I just found it out this winter due to ceiling leaking from ice-dam, my roof guy didn't install Ice and Water

Guard when they replaced my shingles 2 years ago -- he did, however, help me find out that, most of softfits are blocked

by fiberglass insulation, which is the main cause of severe attic condensation and mold growing. The roof guy replaced 3

low-profile roof vents which were blocked by snow, with high-profile "MAXIMUM" roof vents quickly, and suggested us to

hire mold removal company for attic mold.

I had never opened my attic hatch since I bought this house at year 2006, now I spent a few hundreds hours reading on

internet about attic mold, health impact, mold removal safety, mold remedy companies and home inspectors websites... After

I got myself enough education and phone-screening, I called 3 mold removal companies to come for evaluation, Ross is the

3rd one (he's the only one requested deductable evaluation fee, the other 2 provide free evaluation).

The 1st company only do Dry Blast -- the honest gentleman implied me that, my attic mold is not bad enough to use Dry

Blast, which is more expensive and requests insulation replacement, but he will help if I really insist.

The 2nd company, who claimed that they have TENs of years experience of mold removal, verbally described me the perfect

detailed procedures for my attic mold remediation, with reasonable service fee. But when I went to homestar to lookup this

company -- yes, it has very nice score, but all within ONE year. When googled the owner, I couldn't find his name related

to any history of mold remediation company other than his current company.

Next, I read through "The Mold Guy" website, Ross's blog articles, homestar reviews of them. Honestly, I don't totally

trust homestar reviews -- but one thing could be true, that is, Lucas is trustable "quality control" in job site. From

their new website, I could see the owner, Ross, is making best endeavor with greatest passion and joy, for his "mold

business", for customers satisfation. I decided to give it a try.

Kay setup my mold remediation on April 09 -- a sunny day, I was happy, thanks to Kay. Lucas, with another 2 gentleman

(Field and Allan) showed up on time and completed the job after 2.5 hours. Today, after 4 days of mold remediation, we

went up to our attic, the roof sheathing ply wood looks so fresh and clean, looks much better than the condition in

"After" photos. Ross's team had done the terrific job! I only give out 9.9 instead of 10.0, is because, I wish they had

cleaner Hepa-Filter in their Air Scrubber :)

During a home inspection, mold was found in a portion of our attic. Researching companies, I came across Mold Guy. After a great conversation with Kay, I chose to use this company. We scheduled the remediation for 8:00 a.m. the day after closing. Right on time, two friendly removers showed up and went to work. Just over 2 hours later, the work was completed faster than expected. They cleaned up the entire staging area and you'd never know they were there. Before and after pictures showed how thorough and complete the work was. Was also great to know that the area was treated to prevent mold growth for about a year. This gives us time to complete some recommendations such as a new washroom exhaust fan and repair of soffits. Received our clearance report that also gave us other recommendations to prevent further mold growth in the home. If this type of service is needed again, no problem calling Kay.

Ross, Kay. Lucas and the team were fabulous (I'd put all their names down, but I can't remember them). I had a difficult and stressful situation and The Mold Guy was so patient and helpful. The guys working on my place were so positive and friendly, they were on site waiting before the start time, put in 11 hours the first day and 10 hours the second day to get the job done. When I had to split the 2 days apart because of the situation I was in, they accommodated me. Their quote included the cost should the job expand beyond the initial estimate, so I knew up front what to expect; to no surprise, the mould had crept much, much further than anyone expected, but the final price was comparable to what a tear down would be. They explained what they were doing, did checks in places that I asked them to, didn't mind me popping in to see how things were going and when they were done, they vacuumed and washed surface areas! The level that they cleaned up to was amazing. Would I use them again? Absolutely.

Our home is about 50 years old and during this brutal winter my son noticed wet spots on the ceiling. He went into the attic and saw wet beams and areas of mold. I called The Mold Guy after reading all the reviews and spoke with Kay. She explained how Ross would come out and inspect the area and then provide us with an estimate. Ross came right on his scheduled time and diagnosed 4 issues that needed to be dealt with. He provided the order necessary to solve our problem (dealing with the mold was third in the order). He provided names of companies to call and told me what to expect to pay each one and what work they had to do. When his men came to deal with the mold they were punctual and very thorough. They took before and after photos which Ross has sent to us along with a certificate stating the mold was dealt with. Overall, I cannot say enough about the service received. If I had a question (i.e. about insulation) I called and Ross answered any queries I had. We were very pleased.

After reading all of the positive reviews for Ross I thought to myself, either this guy is really great at what he does, or this guy has hired one heck of a great creative writer to pad his results! Scepticism aside I called Ross to find out for myself. It was the former and with the job now complete we couldn't be happier with the results!

Ross came down same-day to do air samples and assess the mold issues in our basement (the mold in our newly purchased home's basement was so thick and slimy it was a no-brainer that we needed the work done so our process was more to understand the quality, cost and guarantees of the work that would be done than to determine if we had a mold issue). Ross provided great information on how mold works, the concerns associated with it and how to identify the root cause to avoid it in the future; and contrary to what most of these guys will tell you about how mold will kidnap your children and bake them into pies to scare you into jobs you can do yourself or don't actually need, Ross alleviated our concerns by explaining how mold moves throughout the house and how we could avoid the mold in the interim; he also explained a few great ways to cheaply and easily (and eco-friendly!) get rid of several different types of mold that are commonly found in old homes so we didn't have to worry in the future. Way above and beyond.

As for the work, the job started a few days later and was scheduled for 3 days (a total gut job of the saturated basement was necessary before we moved in because the mold was well into the walls in addition to the entire sub floor; even in the floor joists above...brutal!). I explained to Ross my need to have it done in two days to meet other contractor obligations and his crew stayed for over 12 hours straight on the second day to make it happen. The job finished ahead of schedule, under cost and looks great. Ross was also highly flexible on payment options, understanding we just moved into a new home and that came with plenty of extra cost, and he even called a few days after to follow up and ensure that we were still happy with the work and feeling better about the quality of the home.

To top it all off, the second day of work was his birthday and with guests at the house in the evening he was still on the phone with me checking in; no kidding!

Use this company; you will not regret it.

I bought a home a few weeks ago and I started to make renovations; my contractor removed a hot tub from one of the rooms and we noticed the area was very wet, with some visible spots of mold; there were also moldy spots in the basement. I called the Mold Guy on Monday afternoon and I made an appointment for the next day. Lucas showed up at my property right on time and proceeded to start the testing. He was very polite and professional; he took his time performing the mold test. Fortunately for me, he didn't find a major problem. There was only one area affected on the surface. I appreciate Lucas' honesty, professionalism and approach.
