I burn 2 cords of wood over the winter and Al Hiltz of Nighthawk has recommended several improvements.
1)The draft was improved by cutting out a few slots on the chimney cap.
2) Replaced the blocks within the wood stove.

When we lit our fireplace this season we were concerned that the fire wasn't burning hot and the smell of residual smoke seem to be quite noticeable throughout the house. We called Al back as he restored our 100 year old chimney to code a couple of seasons ago. He responded to our call immediately, booked a precise time to come by on a Saturday (great for those who work M-F). He diagnosed the problem and within a short period of time, gave us a couple of suggestions to address the situation. We had installed a new front door and had done some other energy efficient measures that had affected the draft. Al is a consummate professional and knows the science of his business which is really important when dealing with the complexities of safe fireplace operation. Happy to report the fire is burning much better now.

Al was on time and efficient. He diagnosed a few issues that I should be aware of in my fireplace, and cleaned the chimney thoroughly. He even walked me through the proper ongoing maintenance of my firebox and chimney. Everything went smoothly, and he was finished in 30 minutes.

Nighthawk, came in to do the cleaning and took images so that I could see how dirty the chimney was before and how clean it was after. He was in and out in less than a half hour. Overall, a great experience.

I'm a landlord in Toronto and didn't understand the importance of maintaining WETT certification for fireplaces. Al is an expert in the mechanics of a fireplace and upgrading the chimney to be code compliant. The workmanship was outstanding. Liners were installed by surgically opening the chimney on the exterior and restoring the bricks to orginal condition. Al provides professional work at a reasonable price. Thanks Al.
