Dishwasher Install

Called United Appliance Network after I read an add on Kijiji. The install was quoted at 49.99 install and 34.99 removal. I figured that was fairly reasonable. From the get go, he started informing of the bad build of my condo and how shut off valve was seized and that there wasn't another one for the whole apartment and he need to install some random plumbing fixture to fix it for another $100. Then the came the dishwasher install... he said it was missing things. power plug and other random stuff... that was another $80. I asked him to use the stuff from the old dishwasher, he insisted he couldn't. In total, it ran me $280. By the way, his name was Jack. I then found out that there was a shut off valve for the whole apartment and the valve he "fixed" wasn't seized. To make things worse, whatever he did is now leaking. They wont answer my phone. The number on kijiji is listed 905 918 1836. The end up calling you back on 547 274 7882. They talk about how they have hundreds of trucks, but i think its 2 people. Jack and the person that answers the phone. The cheque was made payable to N.C.L Construction LTD. That's how I found this page. They changed their name from "All Canadian Appliance Service" to "UNITED APPLIANCE NETWORK SERVICES INC." I'm hoping this shows up on Google.

Appliance installation

Here is my experience with this company:
I had to install 3 appliances (microwave, dishwasher and a fridge with ice maker line). I found them through Kijiji. The prices seemed very reasonable (59.99 for dishwasher, 79.99 for microwave, 59.99 for ice maker line) I called them and they came in a couple of hours. The moment the technician stepped in, the estimate doubled because of "extra parts required". Their parts were extremely expensive (even the smallest part was $60 or more). And they charge double part price when the pipes were not close enough. My dishwasher was within 1ft range to the water line, but they had to charge twice for the parts since their parts were not long enough. When they finished 3 appliance installation, the price was close to $750 with parts (their original estimate was around $270). So I wouldn't recommend this company to anybody since their estimate is highly deceiving. There are a lot of complaints against them Better Business Bureau website. Also they do not have a dispatcher or a technician team, since I called them continuously for a week, day and night, to verify their HST registration number (they didn't have HST reg. number on the invoice, but they charged HST), and no one answered the phone for a complete week.

Appliance installation

As stated in an earlier posting, beware of the tactics used by this company. They quote what appears to be a reasonable price and make their money based on extras. As soon as they come into your home, their installers are critical of the work done by other sub-trades. They use the criticism as an excuse to exceed the initial estimate. When finished, they present you with a bill that in our case was 3 times the estimate and blame it on unforseen site conditions. The installation was done incorrectly and when they came back to rectify the problem, they presented us with another ridiculous bill. We refused to pay and the company gave our home phone number to the service staff who called to harass us. Today, the installation is still not correct and the appliance manufacturer has asked us to go back to the installer to rectify it. We will not allow these people back in our home so we are stuck with a sub-par job. Do NOT make the mistake of dealing with this company!

Company Response

I usually don’t get involve with the internet, but I was made aware of your posting; I just want to make the story straight, as I am one of the three techs that worked at your house. When we got there, we took a look at your equipment; many of the required parts for the installation were missing, it was clearly stated in the installation manuals from the manufacturers that these parts were not included in the base units, these manuals were shown to your wife. Also, your contractors did not supply you with the required rough-ins for your equipment. The quote you got from the company was very clear as to the cost was only for the installation labor only, no parts or rough in will be supplied. I told you to your face that you should get these parts from where you got the appliances and also get your contractor to rough in the systems and call us back and we will install your appliances at another time. You told us that you have fired your contractor and nothing further will be done by them. You and your wife pleaded with us to do the rough ins and as for the parts for the appliances, you said you did not have the time to get the required parts and if we can supplied them. I called my manager and they agree to send us the parts to get the job done. All of the cost involved with the parts, the rough in and the installation was pre approved by your wife before it was started. I was in fact hoping that you did not want to get the parts so we can go, we are hourly workers and we don’t get any commissions for any parts and we’ve got easier jobs that day. I did not want to do this job, at the end it took us over 14 Hours and most of the time you watched us like over our backs and all instructions were given directly by us or your wife. I was also told that you are a contractor so you are fully aware of what it was done.
The thing with your island fan being too low, I told you that it was not right before it was installed. You got barely 8’ceilings and you purchased a 36”ceiling mount fan so your whatever reason, you do the math, unless you are shorter than 5’you will hit your head on it, it is that simple. You called our manager and made us come back to reinstall the fan and you directed us in what to do, I told you that it was wrong but you made us do it. As for the payment, your wife signed and approved the cost of the re-install, it’s that simple. Your posting stated about the company told us to harass you, they never did any such thing, you gave me your phone numbers as at the end of the job when you did not pay, I said if you don’t pay, me and the other techs will have to pay as we are responsible for our own accounts. You said to me that you promise that we will not be out of pocket and that’s why you gave me your phone numbers so we can follow up with you. Needless to say, you never did pay WE DID! I never called you, I may not be rich but I preferred to pay than to talk to you. You know what you did to us and after that you still write an one sided post like this.
