Used them to move-twice

This moving company is terrible! I used them twice and it was a huge mistake. Both times they went way over budget, complained, smoked or took calls, damaged items both times, one jackass screamed at me over the phone when I tried to file a damage claim, they never return calls and I've had to file a claim with the BBB for which they are trying to negate responsibility. Totally unprofessional and a waste of time and money.

We have already settled your complaint with a refund of $250. I would also like to inform you that part of the settlement was that you took down your complaint as it is no longer valid. I am going to reiterate everything that occurred on your move as to set to record straight.

As to why this second move took longer than the first move, the logistics of these two moves were not the same. Firstly, although the place moved out of this time was the same as was moved into last time, it was pouring with rain this time, which always slows things down (e.g. they have to go slower, especially on the loading ramp). At the load end, the crew consisted of a triathlete and a hockey player, who were quite capable of being good stair runners - we have never received a complaint about either one of these men before or since Oct 31. At the unload end, the truck had to be parked across the street, and it was a long walk through pouring rain from there, over a curb, through a gate and around the back of the house and then into the various rooms. This took a lot longer than the move out of the original place on the first move -- that was a ground floor bachelor suite where the truck could park much closer to the suite's door, and in good weather. The alleged comment by one of the crew, about the move taking longer, did not mean that it was taking longer than it should take, but simply that he was not happy about being late for his Hallowe'en plans. If anything, this would have made him move faster! They did not take any breaks apart from a few short phone calls - not the 15 minutes every two hours like most movers take.

Lastly, the move last time took 5 hours, not 4 hours as stated.
As for the scratches on the floor: the place being described is the same place as the crew pointed out the already existing scratches (under where they placed the desk) - and if it can be determined that some new scratches were caused by us within an area where were already exiting scratches (as seen in the photos), then I don't see why there would be any additional cost to fix this area. In any case, how can it be distinguished which scratches were there already and which weren't? We don't want to be mistakenly blamed for something we didn't do.

As for what looks like some separation in the laminate coatings at the bottom of 2 desk legs: it would have been much better if Pamela had shown this to the crew before they left. It looks like there are no pads underneath these legs, in which case just the normal motion in a truck, for example, can cause some separation of the laminate coatings, especially if they were already slightly loosened from previous handling. In other words, it looks like a manufacturing defect, that we cannot be responsible for, (just like how we do not insure anything made of pressed particle board, like Ikea furniture.)

It has still not been determined that we are responsible for your damage but have given you back more than generously and would appreciate if you would acknowledge that.

Finally I would politely like to ask you why you would use us a second time if you were so unhappy the first time using our service?

Moving home

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I have used moving companies before and this was by far the worst. They are cheap but there is a reason and they don't honor their price match.

It was a very negative experience and I am extremely displeased. They took very little care with the stuff they were moving and damaged several items (including dropping my deep freeze off the truck lift). They were unprofessional as they spent the whole time complaining about having another job to do after ours. We have pictures of them driving on our grass (it was not needed to do the unload) in our brand new place and they left the lift down so it tore up our grass. As well they were arguing with our neighbors after they blocked their driveway and they needed to get out (they had to move their truck once during the entire move). They took almost twice the estimated time and arrived almost 30 mins late to start (but still charged me for the original start time). After I had asked if they could remove tvs from mounts and disassemble furniture during the quote, the movers told me that "i have to do it" they wouldn't do it.

My larger concern was at the end I then had to argue over the fuel match that was agreed upon during my quote even though I mentioned this to the driver and we wrote it on the contract before starting (and their advertisements and policy state they price match). I dealt with Brian at the office who said they had to bill the whole thing and would adjust it the following Monday. I have since spoken with Brian several times to deal with my moving concerns and get the reimbursement that was promised to me and advertised. He is not a pleasant man to deal with as he essentially just tries to yell and bully you into accepting what he says (and tells you why you are wrong and that moving companies just get tons of complaints). We have twice agreed upon how to address this situation and both times he has changed his mind and started the process again. Now he won't even answer my attempts at correspondence. He claims to be the "owner/manager" but refuses to be of help. Save the hassle and headaches and pay few dollars more per hour. You will be much better off.

Company Response

We do honor our Price Match Guarantee but it has to be with movers that are licensed, insured and been in business for at least ten years. The company that you tried to price match was not one of these things other wise we would honor our policies. We also advertise our requirements to be eligible to price match.
We are only human and we do drop something every now and again. We apologize and would like to remind you that we are an insured company and there for will cover certain damages that occur on your move. Budget City does need you to send an email to us with all the information about your move as well as photos. That we we can begin our damages and complaints process. Thank you.

Moving

Budget City Movers moved me On October 2, 2012 and they did a fabulous job! The guys were on time, really hard workers, and never even took a break. The estimate they gave me was around $500 and it came in pretty close. I was really happy and will definitely use this company again in the future.

Move within Vancouver

I concur completely with the negative reviews here. Do not use this company. Hired them to move me under 8 km in 2009, within Vancouver. The estimate was for around $600, the final total was over $1000!! They stated it was because more time was needed, given the elevator had to be used for the loading in my old building. Like, duh, they knew that beforehand! Also, had the surprise 10% fuel charge, and then, although three workers were hired, only two really did any loading- the third went off to buy drinks, talk on his mobile etc (this was the "supervisor"). I ended up doing a lot of lifting, and hurt my neck. In addition, they stopped on their way to my new home to have LUNCH, and charged me for this as part of the moving time! Yup- unbelievable!!!!!! The other big thing that should have sent alarm bells ringing right away- their credit card machine was "broken" so payment had to be made in CASH!! Yup, another way to trick the customer and over inflate the bill. They had been recommended to me by a friend, but I feel like such a dummy that I never checked them out on google etc to see their reviews. Again, the owner is an a*&%#@e- I called to dispute the charges since it was way over the estimate, and when I told him I'd complain to the BBB, he just threatened me with a law suit for slander. Do not use this company. Go with a mainline reputable moving company, or the old standby, ask some friends to help, and rent your own truck.

We are sorry to hear that you are not satisfied with your move. We always try hard to fair in our service, our pricing, and our handling of complaints. Let's address some of the issues here. Elevators actually do play a huge role in the amount of time it takes to move. Although we knew you had an elevator we did not know that it was small. A smaller elevator hold less than an average elevator increasing the amount of trips/time which then in turn increases your bill. I can assure you that there is never a "surprise fuel charge" on any of our bills. We tell our customers during the estimate, again when we confirm the evening before a move and we get the customer to entail the fuel charge which is embedded on our invoice before we even begin the job. So this should not have been a surprise to you. Also our men are good young students that have been trained to move, the men on your job have informed me that they were stuck in traffic as it was rush hour, they were not having lunch... Our credit card system was down because we were renovating. We are sorry this was of inconvenience to you. We would like to point out that paying cash or credit does not change the final amount. The final bill stays the same so you claiming that we inflated the bill is a false accusation and whether you pay cash or credit is irrelevant. And certainly do not "trick" our customers. We inform our customers of all our policies, procedures and fees before and during your move. Finally, I do not believe that owner was rude to you. He was probably referring to your complaint as slander because you have made false defamatory accusations is this review which is defined as slander. If you would like to further discuss any of your issues please contact us at 778 340 6683

Office move

Response to BCM's response:

I didn't realize I could edit a review til now. Yes we found the computer but the shredder wheel was broken, and our glass boardroom table got a BIG chip in it and we were quoted $700 to get a new glass top which I forwarded to Terry at BCM. We have received no compensation, and we would rather now leave all my reviews online for people to see than be bribed to remove them. People obviously aren't happy with your service. Look at all the negative reviews on Yelp, and quite a few complaints filed with the BBB too! And considering the number of complaints about the owner Bryan screaming, swearing and hanging up on his customers I don't think anyone would question our complaint. As well - regarding your response to another complaint re: breaks, you are gravely mistaken to believe you have to give 15 min breaks every 2 hours! I work in human resources! Check out:
http://www.labour.gov.bc.ca/esb/esaguide/#3

Meal Breaks
An employee must not work more than five hours in a row without a 30-minute unpaid meal break. An employee who is required to work or be available for work during a meal break must be paid for the meal break. Employers are not required to provide coffee breaks.
________________________
Never mind that the move took longer than they said it would and charged us alot of extra $ for it, they broke some of our furniture and office equipment, lost one of our computers and did not compensate us - the owner Bryan made some very racist comments toward my CEO's wife! Horrible service, horrible attitude and we would never recommend this company to anyone. Contact me cathy.oye@iugome.com.

Cathy, I would like to set the record straight because this review has obviously not been updated. You found your computer, nothing was broken except for one plastic weel off a copy machine. Out of an entire office building with 20 offices and high value items you are talking about 1 small plastic weel. This was settled, everything accounted for and compensated. We have resolved your complaint with your boss. It was agreed upon that you would remove all of your false statements posted all over the web. Why have you not removed this? I can see that you took down your facebook post. Please do the same on homestars. Finally I would like to say that Budget City Movers has a wide variety of employees from all ages, races and backgrounds. We are not racist, in fact you could call us today and speak in punjabi or mandrin and we could answer you.

1BR Move (Vancouver to Burnaby)

Movers showed up 15 minutes early to the origin address and were pretty much flawless with loading and unloading the 2-ton truck. All done in 3 hours (which was the original estimate) with very little, if any downtime. Would definitely recommend to friends and family.

Moving within downtown Vancouver- 3 Blocks

Not a good ezxperience! The quote and estimate was approx. 4 hours, but the movers were so slow that it took 8 to 9 hours to move a small one bedroom apartment. The movers took a few smoke breaks that caused a lot of delay in my move, which I ended up paying. It took their truck more than one hour to get to Coal Harbour from Robson Street on a Sunday morning. I was charged double what i budgedted and what it hurts more is that I called and complained. The lady who responded the phone, and claimed that she was a decion maker, said she would have her boss call me back and they did not even care to call.
