Sms Movers No Longer In Business

This company quoted us a $135 flat rate. They were 1 hour and 20 minutes late, put a dent in our friend's place moving the couches out (which they refused to do anything about), and then refused to take to our basement unless we paid $100 more. They insisted that we pay $135 before they would bring the couches into our house. They then brought them in and left them in the living room. So here we were, held for ranson... with a couch set in our family room and wanting to get it in the basement... they quoted $1 per stair per person. They are the rudest people i have ever dealt with in my life. They are fradulent crooks and should not be in business. The owner kept hanging up on us when we called to complain. I honestly, have never dealt with such horrible people in my life. My blood pressure got higher than it ever has before. I still keep shaking my head because these people are the lowest of all low on this earth. Stay clear from this company. I hope the Better Business Bureau shuts them down soon.

SMS MOVERS (several website on the internet) is one of the worst movers I have ever experienced. I booked for 9:00 AM, July 25, 2010; they arrived at 4:15 PM and completed the work at 1:45 AM (after midnight) – 9.5 hours for a two-bed room apartment by two staff. This caused a lot of stress and trouble for us for the whole day; even I did not able to go to my work next morning.

The broke the following goods during the moving and didn’t gave me any compensation for that, even they didn’t told me sorry for their actions. The descriptions of the damage are as follows:
• Broke some of my glass wares, which are part of a dinner set (worth about $400)
• Broke bed frame by stepping on it (worth about $100)
• Broke a parts of the treadmill I bought six months before (worth $1600)
• Scratched and dented furniture and TV (didn’t used rungs to take care of them)
• One of the staffs was very rude with us, kicked off furniture and swore frequently

Last year I moved from Downtown Toronto to Guelph and one of the moving companies completed the moving in four hours and I paid $400 for the job. In that moving neither of my stuff was broken nor even damaged. While SMS Movers took 9.5 hours to move the same stuff from Guelph to Waterloo and I had to pay them $850. They worked very slowly and carelessly. Moreover, one of their staff – kicked of my furniture and swore frequently, which made us very uncomfortable. During my booking with the company, they mentioned that the move may take 4 - 5 hours, which I found reasonable for a two bed-room apartment, but they did the work for 9.5 hours.

In addition, their system of signing papers (when their staff comes to my place for starting moving) is very exploitative. They didn’t told these things when I booked for moving. On the day of moving, after arrival of their staff in my place, they took deposit (asking for $400) from me and asked me to sing papers with extra charges – charge for heavy times ($20 per item), charge for stairs ($60) ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE description=VALUES(description),title=VALUES(title),story=VALUES(story); and pay fully (with an estimated hours) before travelling to my destination. If I don’t follow their rules they will not start moving goods and I can’t look for another mover because of my deadline of moving with the landlord, which bound me to agree with their conditions. Before starting moving, they force the customer to pay the full costs (with an estimate hours) before delivering goods at destination. Then they worked slowly and carelessly, and took the estimated time they mentioned. I was so upset with their activities that I elope myself to control my stress and agony about what they were doing. Even they didn’t give me an official receipt of the expense. Their staff told me that their office will issue me an official receipt, but they never did that.

When I complaints about the matter over phone (which I likely got on the website before booking for the moving) they didn’t listened to me and cut-off the phone line and gave me a fake email address to send a complaint. When you will search for a company for moving you will find them with several websites, all are the same company – SMS MOVERS.

I humbly request proper law enforcing agencies/control agencies (public/private) to look into the matter, so that they can’t exploit new Canadians how don’t have much experience about the exploitation of these types of service providers.

Xtremely dis-satisfied with them. Person came in gave estimate for whole move ($600)and on the day of move 4 hours before closing of house asked us $1250 or else they won't move.
On the day of move back from storage to new home, they did not complete the move. put all my stuff in the garage and left. we have been waiting since to complete the move. we even called the cops, but they have all tricks in the book mastered.
Lots of damaged furniture, no-one picking the phone now, no-one coming to move, no-one responding to queries, and all you get is bad words and yelling from them.
Cannot believe a business can still survive like this with such bad service.

We were quoted a price well in advance of $60.00/hr plus one hour travelling time. When the movers showed up an hour late, the price was suddenly $80.00/hr plus two hours travelling time! When we were quoted, we confirmed there were no other add on charges other than the rate/hour. When movers arrived, they tried to charge us $1.00 per stair per home per mover!!! Are u kidding me? My husband had to negotiate them down to $150.00 flat fee but this was not a cost we had budgeted for...they said we could pay by credit card when quoted but this was not the case. We had to pay $300.00 before they loaded the truck, then expected another $300.00 once it was loaded! Then they went for lunch instead of bringing the truck to our new home!!! When they got there, they took their sweet time unloading so they could try and get another hour out of us. PLEASE DO NOT BOOK WITH THESE MOVERS AND TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS...THEY ARE A HORRIBLE "COMPANY" WHO SHOULD BE CHARGED AND THEIR BUSINESS SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN. These are the guys who have been on the news lately...I'm sure of it! BEWARE of SMS MOVERS!!!

i used them on may 15, 2010 from oshawa to kingston guy name ron told me the job will cost me anywhere from 700 to 800 they dissamble assembled all my furnitue guys were so polite they placed everything whereever we told them to place very organized i booked with them month ago and they called me 7time to remind and reconfirm the things i have few more freinds moving next month and they have called ron allready sms movers will be moving me next time. sms movers number is 1-877-314-7465

I booked these movers well in advance, told them exactly what was to be moved, that I was on a second floor walk-up, and that I'd booked the elevator at my new condo from 1-3. I was quoted $40 per hour, plus one hour travel time.

They showed up an hour and a half late, loaded all my belongings, THEN gave me a bill for $375!!!! It was a nightmare & I ended up calling the police.

Of course they also cracked a cabinet. When I called to complain about that Ron hung up on me.

This SMS movers, and greatertorontomovers.ca should be arrested and charged with fraud.
