The Custom Deck Company

Dany was contracted to replace my deck and do fence and gate repairs on both sides of my home. The deck was demolished and replaced with the work being well done. There were delays in the process however. Anticipating Dany’s response, ( based on other reviews), he would say “but I built you a beautiful deck” and that the delays were “out of his control”. Within his control or not, the continued “I’ll be there on such and such a day or week followed by repeated no shows with minimal, if any communications until I followed up, often multiple times, far outweighs the positives of the deck build and money spent. The fence work is another story altogether.
The fence and one of the gates were and are a nightmare. I have a twisted main post on the one fence and a gate that closes but latches into a fence board rather than a post as it should. The main post can be described as cosmetic, but for a contractor to accept such visibly diminished product speaks to a lack of pride in a finished product, at best. The latter is due to the two gate posts being misaligned by an inch. Dany’s response was that gate closes so there isn’t a problem. This gate is not professionally installed. I paid for and expected professional quality work as anyone would when such services are advertised on a contractor’s website, I received much less.
Despite repeated requests to have the gate closure fixed and promises to come out to do so and numerous “no shows” I have a gate that looks like it was installed by a sub-rate contractor. He has not honoured his warranty.
My experience with Dany leaves much to be desired. All the excuses I heard are already documented by other clients on the Homestars site. I experienced most of them and have string of emails to support me along with a phone log I kept. Dany even suggested that he really was a deck company and did my fence as a favour. His website clearly indicates that he does fences along with other outdoor structures in addition to decks. In addition he said he didn’t make any money on my fence – that reflects his quoting.
I should have held back a portion of my final payment and maybe my fence would have been “fixed before winter” as he promised. My late husband would have held back a portion of this payment and I simply trusted given the reviews I read on the Homestars site. Be really careful to read all the ratings before making a final decision. I certainly will going forward.
