Recently I built myself a small size garden shed to store some tools, materials and equipment. When it came to the roof I knew it would be pretty simple, easy and cost-effective to put traditional unsightly shingles or Cedar Shake on the roof but did not like either of those options. Ultimately I really wanted to put a proper steel roof on my shed just like I did on the roof of my house in 2012. I reached out to my original steel roofing company west of the GTA who said they would come and do the job but never did :( Understandably, yes, it is a very small job (96 inches by 36 inches) so I understand if they weren't exactly eager to travel downtown Toronto and do this little job the agreement was that they would do so if they already had to come to Toronto in the area or even east of the city it would be a small job that would take them about 90 minutes or so to complete (in theory). Unfortunately I just got the runaround from them and in the end they wasted too much my time. Despite doing a great job four and a half years ago on my house roof, knowing I was going to build a shed some day, I felt they should have never agreed to help me with my shed roof in the first place If they were going to only provide me with false hope, wasting my time and energy for several weeks before I gave up on them.
So I did some more searching on the internet and called a few other steel roofing companies (I knew better then too consider going with aluminum for anybody who knows about aluminum knows it is pretty to look at but an extremely expensive joke! 31 gauge common standard aluminum shingle roofing systems from the majority of companies is only 2 gauges off of a 33 gauge pop can which means it is extremely week and can get damaged very easily, bad choice for any project) So eventually I found London Eco roof. I called them up and a man by the name of Derek at the Dorchester facility was very helpful over the phone and spent considerable time discussing the project with me by phone and my needs. I was surprised that he even gave me the time of day knowing my shed project was very small at 3 feet by 8 feet but he really wanted to help me and understood my frustrations up till this point. He also told me that they have a "cash and carry" option for DIY smaller projects which I had never seen any company offer before in fact even on their website it specifies certain types of their Steel Roofing that are more conducive to Cash & Carry DIY project. I wanted to see the product up close and in person and even handle it with my own hands to select the best style for my shed and ideally one that matched my own 26-gauge steel roof on my house. So I went out to the Brittania location in Mississauga and met with Patryk! They had lots of beautiful styles and colors to choose from in the showroom, it was impressive. Let me just say, Patryk's level of customer service and attention to detail and expertise are phenomenal. He took the time to help me select all the material and help customize all of the Steel to my roof and exact specifications. He has been absolutely steller and has been an instrumental factor in the completion of my shed roof!! Despite this being such a small shed roof project and his crazy schedule, being in such high-demand as he is, he even offered to come out to my place and give me a hand installing it, wow!! The other gentleman Derek at the warehouse in Dorchester was also superb and took considerable time by email and phone to ensure that all the measurements were accurate and all the folds were precise. The end result is a beautiful blue gray 26 gauge steel roof that will last a lifetime on my newly self-constructed shed project and for an incredibly reasonable price!! I could not be happier!
