A&A Masonry

A and A Masonary were very professional from beginning to end. The workmanship is outstanding (Richard) and they were always on time and worked non stop. They cleaned up ever evening and were very respectful of our property.

Joe and James arrived on the hottest day of the summer and set to work on our crumbling century home. The bricks were in such bad shape, we were afraid they would fall out onto the heads of visitors! The exposed portion of the basement wall was crumbling as well. Joe and James ground out all of the joints and filled in new mortar to our exact colour specifications. They worked quickly and expertly despite the scorching heat! They also cemented and parged the exposed basement walls. We couldn't have been more pleased with the results. Looks like a new house!!

I initially hired another contractor last November to waterproof the basement front wall and install the window wells for a legal basement apartment at my house in the Sheppard-Morningside-Wickson Trail area. However, they took far too long to complete the job and it stretched into January. Dominic and his crew returned in mid-May to correct issues with the Bilco plastic window wells sagging as they were backfilled by the previous contractor in late January and they sagged and pulled away from the wall with the thawing a few weeks later. I had to dispose of the Bilco window wells and went with TecSteel galvanized steel window wells instead from Edmonton.
Dominic and his crew did an expert job patching the dimple board after removing the old plastic Bilco window wells and installing the TecSteel galvanized window wells. I would highly recommend A+A Masonry for future masonry, tuck pointing, basement lowering and basement waterproofing jobs. Dave

I've been telling people, since I got the work done 2 days ago, how impressed I've been with A&A. First I spoke to a lovely woman at their office who promised someone would call me to arrange a quote. They kept their word and I got a prompt call and later met Pierre who was very knowledgeable and personable (and the quote was very fair compared to the competitive quotes I got). From there, I was promptly put in touch with Andy who sent Dwight to my house. The work Dwight did was fantastic. It was readily apparent that he takes his craft seriously and his dedication to getting the job done in a top-quality fashion was impressive. He showed up at 7:20am and didn't leave until 8:45pm! The whole time he was focussed on replacing deteriorating brick with new brick, crumbling concrete with beautiful limestone and tuckpointing the entire area so it looks like new. He also answered any questions I had and I told him he was making me re-evaluate how hard I work at my job. He'd put most of us to shame!

We hired A & A Masonry without having any prior knowledge of the company. After receiving several quotes from other companies, we spoke with John McCutcheon about work that needed to be done on our veranda. John actually came out to see us within an hour of contacting the company. The veranda and steps were basically in good condition but bricks were starting to crumble and the concrete pad was broken. John suggested resurfacing the top of the veranda and the steps and building a new concrete pad, as well as replacing all the crumbling bricks. A week later, Brayton and Daniel started working - unfortunately they had to work in that 4 day heat wave, that was enough to sap anybody's energy. Brayton listoned to all our concerns and worked with us tocomplete the job promptly and efficently.. The cleanup was excellent - thanks guys and we would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending A & A Masonry to anyone. If we need any work done in the future, we know who to call.

I plan on purchasing new windows all around my house in the near future so upon closer examination, I noticed a number of cement window sills with cracked mortar along the sides and underneath. When we have the odd driving rain coming from the east, I noticed some water was making it's way through those cracks and into my garage. I wanted a stable, leakproof base when I eventually purchase my new windows. Further checks around the house revealed minor mortar cracks that needed to be addressed as well. I got onto Homestars.com and after some research, decided to go with A & A Masonry. Boy am I glad I did! This is not the first time I've used Homestars to find a trade. From the first contact with Sophie the secretary to Paul the estimator and then Joe and James the masonry experts to Andy (owner) the team was professional. When Joe and James arrived, (I'll call them JJ) we introduced ourselves and they were shown what needed to be done. As a bit of a perfectionist, I quickly noticed they too took their craft seriously and paid attention to detail. JJ and I communicated well and found them to be respectful young men. I believe it was Joe that matched the mortar cedar colour perfectly, a tricky job I'm sure. The lower roof was hosed down afterwards and the area cleaned up. Andy, your company delivered big time! There's a reason why this company has so many favourable reviews. They really do live by their motto, delivering what they promise, and then some. I live in a semi: my neighbour and I needed to have our 40+ year old chimney rebuilt and some tuckpointing completed on the exterior walls. We agreed to A&A after finding them via Homestars.

A&A Masonry has been a pleasure to work with - right from the initial estimate with Pierre, to having the guys (Joe and James) on-site performing the repair, to dealing with Andy for the contract and payment. Pierre has always been reachable and responsive - I haven't even had to use his voicemail - the guy seems to pick up his phone any time of the day.

Joe and James are a fantastic crew. These guys are true professionals: knowledgeable and excellent at their trade, thorough in their work, communicate well, courteous to the neighbours. After tearing down the chimney to the roofline, they found 8 courses below the roof that needed replacing. Not something we expected, but they took and sent us pictures to show us the problem. They picked out a nice, solid red clay brick to match the house and built separate chambers for our chimney flues (which were not done on the previous repair). The cleaned the roof after the rebuild, and tarped up the chimney every night until the flashing was fastened and sealed. They wire-brushed a terrible DIY repair job on the side wall done with cement by the previous owner, and did a proper job tuckpointing and repairing the window sills around the house.

A great experience overall - I would recommend these guys for any future work. In fact, I recommended them to my in-laws who just signed a contract w/ them.

We requested flagstone on porch and steps, and wall cladding with natural stone veneer.
Paul advised on and helped us viewing, then Paul and Dwight selected the materials.
The skillful craftsmanship of Dwight resulted in showing the beauty of natural stone.
