Downpipe removal, replacement and re-routing

Our house is a 3 story townhouse. We had a deck built in the summer, and initially thought we would be having our downpipe drain into a rain barrel, so, we had the person who did our deck, re-route the downpipe over our gate so that we could, eventually, get a rain barrel to have it drain into. Well, the job looked awful. The colours of the elbows the deck contractor used, didn't match, and the even worse, it leaked when it rained.

I realized I needed to find someone who knew what they were doing, so, I started reading reviews on Homestars and called a few companies. Of the 4 companies I called, two eventually responded saying they don't do repair work, only full replacements, and then there was Pierce from Tip Top Trough. Pierce responded promptly, and said he could stop by later in the week to have a look at our situation. True to his word, he had come by, left a card in my door, and followed up with a quote a few days later. One of the things Pierce suggested was to replace the 2 x 2 downpipe to 3 x 3. He didn't say it was necessary, but, based on his experience, he had found that the 2 x 2 downpipes, while still in use, tend to get clogged a lot more frequently than the 3 x 3 pipes. Well, he was right. We did have issues with it clogging, so, I agreed with his suggestion. I discussed the quote with my wife and we thought of another option that had the pipe being re-routed along the top of our gate, and to come down on other side of our walkway. I mentioned this to Pierce and he said he would have to come by again, see if it was do-able, and provide a revised quote. My father-in-law had come to stay with us for a few days, so, I took the opportunity to ask him what he thought, as he was quite the handy-man himself, and he suggested having it re-routed so that it ran under the deck, and then drained away from the house. Both my wife and I liked this idea very much, and, once again, I mentioned it to Pierce. He came by once again, and confirmed it could be done, but explained they needed to lift a deckboard, and that they could only go so far under the deck because drilling through too many joist boards would compromise the integrity of the deck.

He sent us a revised quote, and I asked him to go ahead with the work.

My wife and I were both very pleased and very impressed with the work Pierce and his crew did. Pierce was very polite and professional to deal with and his work was top-notch. I'm glad I found Tip Top Trough on Homestars and would not hesitate to recommend his services to friends and family.

Downspout Installation & Repair

The drainpipes connecting my porch and roof were leaking and causing pooling near the foundations of my home. I called Tip Top and a couple of other companies from Homestars for estimates. Pierce @ Tip Top Trough got back to me quickly asking if he could come and inspect the issue with me there so he could provide an accurate estimate and solution. He not only offered an affordable solution but one that worked best for the look of the house! Completing the job on time and on budget, Pierce's work was excellent and has worked more than well through recent rain. I can highly recommend his work and would contact Tip Top again should I have any other issues. 10 out of 10!

Gutter repair

We read up about Tip Top Trough here on Homestars and decided to contact them for an estimate on my eavestrough that was badly hanging off the front of my house. I wasn’t positive it could be salvaged but after talking with Pierce I was confident it could be. I hired his company to do the work and we have not had a problem since. Pierce was friendly, knowledgeable and provided a repair service that most companies would try to turn into a full replacement. I've already recommended Tip Top Trough to others!

replaice eves facia and downspouts

“I contacted Tip Top Trough to replace the aluminum (eavestrough downpipe soffit and fascia) on my house after recommending them to a variety of my clients. I know Pierce will provide the highest level of workmanship and service to the people I recommend and that’s the same reason why I hired him to do my house. The house looks great and even the carpentry work required wasn’t a problem for the Tip Top Trough crew. Thanks again Pierce!”

I originally hired Pierce and his company Tip Top Trough to provide a quote on a variety of small repairs on my old house. While I had a few companies quote on the work I decided on Tip Top Trough because of their professionalism and detailed estimate. I am glad that I did because they solved our problems and did not experience any problems afterwards. Since then we have moved into another house and it would only make sense that there be issues at the new house as well. With a new baby and new house to worry about I am glad I didn’t have to worry about who I would call to do the work. I knew I would call Pierce at Tip Top Trough because he did a great job last time. He came by quickly to provide an estimate and the decision to hire him was easy. When they came to do the work, I was not home. I received a call from Pierce saying that there had been a mix up on the color of the new downpipe and while it was replaced he said they would need to return to install the proper color. It wasn’t even a week before they returned and replaced the downpipe with the proper color. It is a pleasure to deal with a company like Tip Top Trough that consistently delivers great customer service and professionalism from one year to the next. Thanks Pierce!

Eaves repairs

We bought an old place on the Danforth that was in need of some eavestrough work - patches here and there, etc. I found out about Tip Top Trough from a lawn sign on another house in the neighbourhood and thought I'd give them a try. Worked out perfectly. I have since recommended them to other friends, and will continue to do so.

They go great work. They are fairly priced. They have a really great estimates system - I knew exactly what work was going to be done, and knew the cost. No surprises. When it comes to the "unexpected joys of home ownership" there's not much else you can ask for.

The guys at Tip Top Trough made quick work of my eavestrough problem. It had come away from my roof. They not only got it back well attached, but alerted me to some earlier work that had been done poorly before we bought the house. No one else we’ve had work on our roof has ever been so proactive in warning us – and indicating with photos – of a potential problem that will need attention in future.
And, only a few days after Pierce had fixed the eavestrough problem, we had one of the heaviest downpours of the season. I was delighted, when I checked, to see that now all the water was going where it was supposed to go!
I will definitely call Pierce when next I want to get some work done on the eavestroughs

I called Tip Top Trough to provide an estimate on eavestrough cleaning and leaf screen installation. Pierce came and provided an estimate which I accepted. We arranged to have the work done but something came up and I had to put the job on hold. Pierce was professional about the situation and when we were ready to start, he fit us in without too long of a wait. Because I have copper eavestrough on part of my house, Tip Top Trough clearly explained the requirements for the leaf screen and the difference between the aluminum and steel types (which is what any good contractor will take the time to do) Since the job was complete we have had no issues with our eavestrough and the new leaf screen on the copper looks great! Highly recommend them to anyone who wants a real contractor to work with!

Replacement of all eaves troughs

Pierce from Tip Top Troughs came by promptly and gave a quote. We had a couple of quotes and Pierce ended up giving the best quote, and along with the positive reviews on Homestars it made picking his team easy. He gave a timeline for when the job would be started and he was right on time. The team that came were great and they completed the job to perfection. We have since had a number of rain storms and the troughs are working perfectly, even on a section of the roof that was challenging. Thanks Pierce. Would highly recommend the team.
