Basement Renovation

For those who know Steve, I had the unfortunate circumstance to be the victim of Steve carrying business as Fuller General Contracting. He completely destroyed my basement. Back in May, I hired him to level and renovate my basement at a total cost of 10 grants. When he poured concrete, he did not level it properly and it was off by more than 5 inches. Instead of fixing it, he installed the new laminate on top of the uneven and sloped surface and damaged 80% of the new laminate. He said he would fix it, however, he ghosted me after the Victoria long weekend for over a month until I found him through a friend. As I paid him in full at that time already, he finally agreed in writing, to reimburse~ 60% of the cost, but in monthly installments. Up until today, he has not paid anything and ghosted me again. Yesterday, I have decided to take him to court. Meanwhile, I figured I'd share my experience so that he doesn't ruin more people.

Incompetent and in comoplete

I hired Steve to renovate my basement in May. He took the payment but never finished the job. He did not level the concrete before installing the laminate resulting in total damage to the new flooring. I had to hire a new contractor to jack-hammering the concrete and redo the entire job. He agreed to settle and reimburse for some of the damages but never did. Hire at your own risk

They started out stating they were in the business of framing and now I have had to hire a contractor (well known) to fix crooked frames and really bad anchoring to my concrete floors.

Frame, drywall and prime basement

The project commenced on August 19th 2008, he was given the project to frame, drywall and paint our basement that had already 6 mil poly and insulation. He demaded some cash to start the job, frequently asked me last minute to use my credit card to rent tools from a box store. I started to get worried when he was purchasing last minute items such as buckets to mix the drywall mud, and or tools that he never had for dry walling, yet he stated he did this before. His workers would show up stating they are doing a favor for Steve by drywalling, taping and mudding. As many as 5 people would "work" in the basement and only on sheet of pro roc board will be screwed in the studs.

Towards the end, after demands of coffee, donuts and coke/water, he said he was too stressed to finish the job and took to many other jobs, he took his tools and left while I was at work and the wife was at home. He did not finish the t-bar he agreed to install, and later stated he is not a t-bar cieling expert.

Above all avoid this person, he always wants cash, and will not finish the job. After completing the job myself and getting another contractor who is professional and will clean up after themselves, you do get what you pay for.
