Shower Rough-In Service Call & Quote

I had Waterworks come and quote on the rough-plumbing of a new shower. They provided a quote only and did not do any actual plumbing for me.

You have to make sure they are the right type of plumber for your needs, though:

Many big consumer/homeowner plumbing companies (all highly rated here at Homestars) provide premium quality and service. They can have someone at your house in an hour to do whatever you need. Premium service comes with a premium price. Waterworks is no different.

Your other option is a more traditional plumbing contractor. They may have an emergency service, but for non-emergency work it will generally take them a few days to get someone to your house. They will be significantly cheaper than ANY of the big consumer companies (not just Waterworks!)

I didn't know this when I called Waterworks. I declined to proceed with their quote, and instead hired a more traditional plumbing contractor. They soonest they could send someone was 3 days later, but I paid significantly less...they also didn't wear booties when they were walking through the house.

Approximate cost of services:
$50.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
The service delivered to me was top notch.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Understand the market. If you want gold-star service, today, with complete peace of mind then you should consider Waterworks. If you are not in a rush, and just want some plumbing done, find a good, licenced, plumbing contractor that is willing to work at an hourly rate. In my case, Waterworks was at my house ready to work within an hour. Their price for my job was $1200-flat. Instead I hired a plumbing contractor who couldn't come by until 3 days later, charged me by the hour, and I paid $600.

Shower Rough-In Service Call

I had some rough-in plumbing for a replacement shower that I wanted a professional to do.

I was in a rush, and my regular plumbing company couldn't make it for a few days. Based on the ratings here, I called Waterworks.

Waterworks would only work on a fixed-price project cost. The only way to get a quote is to pay for a service call of $40. The plumber was on-site within an hour.

I paid the $40, and got a quote for $1200.

I knew this would only be 4-6 hours of work, so I declined to proceed.

I waited two days for my regular plumbing company instead. They took 6 hours to do all the work, plus install my tub. Cost was $85/hr plus a $70 service call and some parts: $600 all in. Licenced plumber, fully insured, work is guaranteed.

Waterworks was fast and friendly, but they really over-charge.

Approximate cost of services:
$40.00

Call a "regular" plumbing contractor. A proper contractor will quote non-emergency work for free if you want fixed price, or will perform work at hourly rate. Many regular contractors also perform emergency work. The company I used also does emergency work with the same hourly rate (during regular hours). Fast fixed-price companies like this take advantage of people who don't know what a plumbing project should cost.
