I had a profoundly disappointing experience with this builder, Northridge Homes Ltd, and I feel compelled to share my story to save others from a similar fate. When we first began our home-buying journey with them, we were taken to their showroom (which is just an office in Orangeville with a kitchen and samples) since they didnt have a model home available.
We were assured that the finishes we would receive in our new home would match the high quality displayed there and that given the fact they were a "custom home builder" their finishes would be far superior to other builders. This promise was a key factor in our decision to move forward with them.
However, what followed was a complete letdown. After several months of waiting, we finally received the options for our new home, and to our dismay, they were far inferior to what was initially presented. The discrepancy between what was promised and what was delivered was glaring. The finishes were lacking the quality we were led to believe we would receive.
They advertise as a "custom home builder," claiming their standard finishes are superior to those of most builders. Unfortunately, our experience has been quite the opposite. Their motto, "We build every home as if it were our own," does not hold true. For instance, the so-called "luxury chef's kitchen" we felt was minimal along the back wall, requiring us to add an entire wall of cabinets, countertops, and a large island to make it functional. They promised standard quartz countertops comparable to those in their showroom and in my current home, but instead they installed a thinner (2 cm) quartz in the kitchen and bathrooms; certainly not representative of what was promised throughout the process. This pattern of misleading upgrades and subsequently providing limited options continued with cabinets, flooring, and other finishes.
The "standard" lighting package we received over 10 months after signing was made of plastic; not what we had expected for this "exclusive, luxury home". Additionally, although the model we chose featured a balcony, we were not informed until after signing that the flooring for the balcony would cost $$thousands and that only a roof liner would be provided as standard. The list goes on and on and on.
To make matters worse, we ended up incurring thousands of dollars in unexpected costs to upgrade the inferior finishes and address other issues that should have been handled by the builder. We feel that the entire process was marred by misrepresentations and a lack of transparency. In our experience, the builder (and his realtor) initially reassured us with promises, then failed to follow through once we signed the agreement. Its frustrating and disheartening to experience this from a business thats supposed to deliver on one of the most significant investments in a persons life. I strongly advise anyone considering this builder to proceed with caution and document every conversation from the beginning.
Additionally, the builders decision to delete our Facebook posts and block us from their page is a significant red flag. This behavior is particularly alarming considering they still hold our building deposit in their bank account. Such actions not only undermine their commitment to transparency and accountability but also raise serious concerns about their business practices. It suggests they might be avoiding scrutiny or attempting to evade responsibility for their actions, which is deeply troubling.
What should have been a straightforward and positive experience has been marred by what we feel are dishonest practices, thus turning a potentially rewarding and exciting new home venture into a distressing ordeal. Given the circumstances, its hardly surprising that the other lots have been on the market for over 280 days.
