Indoor Painting Main floor, stairs and hallway

Great service was provided Muriah. She was on site with the students and teaching them. She ensured that furniture was protected and moved. She came by to provide samples swatches in various bright and dark locations so we would be able to pick the right colour. We have curved corners so went with one colour vs. multiple but multiple was an option. She explained the three year warranty and ensured we had her card to call with any concerns. All of them were professional and polite. She ensured everything was cleaned up and did a walkthrough with me to fix any areas missed. I have painted before so I expected some areas requiring touch ups which happens because the paint doesn't necessarily come off the way it should.

Exterior of the house

We'd specifically asked for an undercoat, and estimate said there would be one, however never happened. Had to consistently point out spots that never got any paint, let alone 1 coat, there are still a couple spots that never got any paint. We were given the leftover paint to finish ourselves. However our concern now is the warranty. I have asked repeatedly for a copy as we were initially told there was a warranty card. Now am told there is nothing to give us. I want something for my records, please.

Doesn't sound right but might I suggest you just call the office? The number is on the top of your agreement. There is indeed a warranty card you should fill out but regardless of that, you still have a three year warranty! That covers any defects, not missed stuff so I assume you haven't paid in full if you are not satisfied, per the terms of your contract.
Sorry we did not live up to your expectations.

Outdoor painting

The three students worked tirelessly for 3 days to get our painting done, and continuously consulted us to make sure they were painting to our specifications. The student in charge, Mitch, was exceptionally professional.

Thank you Melissa! Our team of university and college students paint about 6,000 homes a year across Western Canada and it's usually the very small number of unhappy folks that go out of their way to post on this site. We really appreciate you taking the time to say nice things. Most of our students do their very best to learn how to run a business and make clients happy. We know we are not perfect but we try and we care. It's refreshing to hear a great review.

Exterior kitchen cupboard doors and drawers painting plus one small wall and door

They did not communicate with us that they were delayed with the starting time booked.Had to call and remind them that we had set a time.
Their work was barely acceptable. Blobs of paint left and had to be They did the bare essentials. Blobs of paint left which needed sanding and redoing. We took off all the knobs to help them but they did not offer to replace them until questioned then offered to do it at an inappropiate time for us. They need a lot of education in what how to get lasting clientele. They do know how to charge but their workmanship is questionable. .They need to learn the difference between what is quality and what is only barely acceptable. These comments are meant to be learning and not derogative. I wish them well but they need to develop better skills and ethics. We always like to help young people working to help themselves get through a tough education process but want them to be dedicated and provide quality work ethics/ practises along the way so they will be better at whatever career they end up in.

Sorry to hear about this! While all of our Operators are fully trained and capable of almost every type of interior and exterior painting, re-finishing kitchen cupboards is very tricky and only the most experienced of Operators should attempt it. To this end, we are going to forbid most of our people from painting cabinets at all. It is a job best left to cabinet makers and wood re-finishers, not house painters. I truly apologize for your experience!

Outside of house

Very disappointed with the workmanship of this company.
Had to call them back to complete work on gable.
Paint left on front steps, path and garden. Painted the branches of a bush that had just been trimmed.
Asked by company rep. to leave a tip for them, unfortunately their work did not qualify for a tip and resent being asked to provide one.
I would not recommend this company.

Very sorry to hear about this. Most of our people do amazing work but clearly this was not the case hear. It is our policy to leave an envelope as a convenience for customers who either wish to donate to the MS Society of Canada and/or provide a tip for painters. It is certainly not something we will ever force or even strongly suggest people do. If it came across that way, that is not proper and I apologize.

Home exterior painting mess

Student Works Painting (Surrey) provided careless, unpredictable, slow service for our home exterior painting. After paying a deposit in March, and being the first large job in their schedule, the work didn't start until June. They then started another exterior job without finishing the second coat of ours (against a company comittment that they don't move on without finishing your job).

They then came to complete the job, said they were done, and left tape in our gutters, paint on our roof, messy edges everywhere. We identified at least 30 deficiencies.

I couldn't and wouldn't recommend this painter to a friend.

Paint bathroom, porch, and driveway

I am very satisfied with the conduct and performance of the three students who worked at my house. They were all very dedicated and productive. The quality of the work was excellent. I am very happy with the results and the very, very reasonable price. I will gladly recommend this crew to anyone. Great job, guys! Thanks so much.

Exterior House Painting

Regret hiring them, and would not recommend them to anyone. They did a very poor job on our house and were unprofessional, goofing off while working, got paint on our steps, windows and patio furniture, left their ladders and poles at our house for over a week after they were done. Complained about having to come back and finish off door trims they were paid to paint. We're now painting them ourselves after paying them +$4K. Terrible group.

Outdoor Painting

We hired Student Works to paint our new fence and deck, and they came and completed the work. However, after less than one season the paint was peeling off the deck. It seemed as if the wrong product may have been used.
When I contacted the company to redeem the warranty, they were initially unresponsive. However, they did eventually return to our home and redo the job for free.
Based on this experience, I would say that Student Works does stand by their warranty and tries to ensure customer satisfaction.

Sorry to hear about your experience. As you can see from most of our reviews, our customers tend to be very satisfied. We have clearly failed in this case. Apologies again. There is no excuse for the lack of communication. Martin is still a Student Works person and has agreed to repaint your deck over the next two weeks. As with most painting companies decks are NOT covered by our Three Year Warranty, and we make this clear. Having said that, we've been in business for 25 years and pride ourselves on going above and beyond to honour warranty. Regardless of what is not covered under our warranty program, even a deck or stairs should not fail within a year. Rest assured, we will investigate why it failed and fix it. Thanks for your patience. Dan

Gutters/Fascia board

Heard about Jordan Kipnes through his mailouts. I found him very professional and knowledgeable. He sure knows his paints ! My gutters needed attention; they were stained from acid rain ! He assured me the paint he would be using would sustain the effect of acid rain and he was right ! It’s been a year now and my gutters still look freshly painted.
