Future Roof

I am suprised to see this company is still in business. I to had a Future roof installed by Papco. After many night mares due to terrible instalation & further costs of hireing a roofing engineer I ended up sueing them. I made an out of court settlement & having the roof taken off & having to pay a further $20,000 for a new roof. Future roof is probable a great product if installed properly but if you see Papco run for the hills. My lawyer told me he knew of others that had sued them.

Re-roof - terrible work - roof leaking since then

I urge anyone who wants to install this permanent roof on your house, STOP and find the qualified roofer! The roof warrantied for 50 years,, becuase you will need it for 50 years. Our new permanent roof has been leaking every year after heavy rainfall in fall, so we have been using the warranty service every year. Now, our ceiling drywall is peeling, and the worry of getting mold makes me sleepless. Roofer only wants to come in sunny days which is hard to see the leaking problem. It is a very FRUSTRATED PROCESS. With these much money invested, THE AFTERWARD HEADACHES IS OVERHELMED.

Complete re-roofing.

In June 2010, I had my house re-roofed by Papco Building

Supply using steel shingles manufactured by “ Future

Roofs “.

My roof is large and complex with gables, changes of pitch

and an attached lean-to. The existing cedar

shingles were 25 years old and obviously needed

Replacement’ so I obtained two quotes from local roofers

and was considering them when I received a flyer from

Papco offering the Future Roof steel shingles.

I am cautious about mail offers and out-of-town contractors ,
But the actual product checked out on the web , so I asked

for a quote.

Surprisingly , the final price we agreed to , matched the

quotes for asphalt shingles while providing a much better

roof in a style and colour that were a perfect match for

our house; so I accepted the contract.
I am an engineer and have built two houses and am aware

of what can be hidden by a hastily installed roof, so I

watched the roofing crew closely during their first week

and asked questions about the installation. After this first

week I left them to it as I had confidence in both their

ability and their work standards. The initial estimate was to

do the job in about a week but it worked out to nearly a

month due to not only occasional bad weather, but also to

unforeseen problems and repairs with the structure of the

old roof .Despite this , the crew made no complaint , continued to work to standard and was very obliging in

doing several extra jobs on gutters and the like, at no charge.

To summarise; Papco provided a high quality and

affordable product with the “ Future Roof “ steel shingles

and their roofing crew did an excellent job in their

installation. They are a family affair who have worked for

Papco for nearly twenty years, I believe. I have worked

with many contractors over the years and this crew were

likely the easiest I have had to deal with.

From my experience with them , I would recommend

Papco Building Supply and their roofing crew to anyone

requiring a good roof at a great price, and wishing for a pleasant experience during the installation

Installed a new steel shingle roof

First of all let me say that PAPCO Building Supplies is a middleman. They do no manufacture the steel roof and they have no employees who install the roof. They sub contract to local roofing companies to do the install. All they are is a few salesmen and a phone and an office.
The salesman will make lots of promises about how the install will be done. However, the installer will just do the work whatever way he chooses. I was promised that the highly trained installers would tear back the old shingles 1 foot to look for rot, repair it if necessary and then install the steel produce. It didn’t happen!! A renovation contractor from [another company] got the sub contract to install my roof. Two children showed up at my home, without even a ladder, to start this work. I had to lend them my ladder just so they could get up on the roof.
They didn’t remove the old shingles as advertised in the sales pitch, all they did was break them back about a ½ “ to be flush with the fascia. There was no attempt to clean up and dispose of the scraps either, they just thru it down into the bushes.

When they did find the one spot of rot I have on my roof they made a comment about the piece of steel I had jammed up under the shingles to stop the leak. They removed my patch and just put the new shingles right over the hole. No repair was even attempted. The experienced install team that I heard about during the sales pitch had to be shown how to use a calking gun when the time came to do that. There is some special type of calking that should be used on these dark shingles. I think it’s a clear material so it doesn’t show. The kid that did mine just picked up a tube of white silicone at Canadian Tire, put it in the calking gun and cut the end off. He couldn’t figure out why nothing came out when he squeezes the trigger. No one had ever shown him that there is a seal that must be broken in the tube after you cut off the applicator end. "Highly trained" is just another exaggeration I was given during the sales pitch.

I have been after them for 2 years to install a few snow breaks so the snow doesn’t slid off and block my doors of worse yet kill someone. I get a positive response to phone calls but nothing ever happens. It’s too late for this year and I think I’ll just go out in the spring and purchase some from a local and install them myself. These guys do business by phone and word of mouth, not email or FaX so there is never any record of what they said they would do.
In conclusion, this is a good steel roof product but Papco is not a company I would do business with again.
