My wife wanted the bathroom redone. She arranged for it. Enough said.
The bathroom part reno was ok. Just ok. The big problem was the amount of dust and other damage they caused and they made no attempt to control it. The dust got sucked into the cold air returns and also ended up all over the house. Up and down. We now have to put out more money for duct cleaning. We now have to clean the house from top to bottom. Fine dust everywhere. It will take hours and hours to do all this cleaning. Clothes have to be dry cleaned or washed as a result of the great amount of dust. They had to front door open hauling out debris and did not think this would make the furnace turn on and suck the dust into the returns and also blow it around. They offered to do some light dusting.
When removing the existing plaster/lathe from the bathroom they cracked walls in rooms on either side of the bathroom. Then their repair work was less than well done.
Whomever was doing the work had no idea how to fix the holes and the long (over 6 feet) cracks which appeared. When the problems were pointed out we were told this happens in old homes and not much they can do. No wall, even a new wall is perfect we were told. The mudding they did was uneven, sanding marks show through the paint, it was not feathered properly to blend with the existing wall and when you run your hand on it you can feel the ridges. There were trowel marks left and not sanded out.
Their solution was to just mud over the cracks rather than groove them out, fill them in stages and sand properly. The mudding they did is crowned and not even with the rest of the wall.
The painting was done with a brush and you can see brush marks. Not all cracks were fixed. The way they did the repairs means the cracks will come back in the future and you can bet they will not fix them at that time.
Also they had small holes in the mud. The result of poor mudding. These were attempted to be hidden with paint.
Deep holes were filled in one shot. The mud shrunk but they continued with painting anyway. You can see cracks already around some of the deep holes they made.
There are many more issues but that is enough. I have included one picture of one hole of many in a wall on the other side of the bathroom. They offered to fix but the excuses flowed as to why it is not possible to do so very well or why we have to live with the repair.
One more thing. Underneath the floor where they were working and where the vent stack piping is for the basement bathroom etc the vent stack starting leaking. It has been in place for 16 years and never leaked before. They start working and it starts leaking. They stated they did not touch it and are not responsible. It is very strange how it never leaked in all that time until they starting working but it is not of their doing. They offered to fix it but bill us for the repair.
