reroofing house

We were very impressed by the inspection of our roof, prior to any work being done, the pictures taken of the old roof and the clear explanation of what had to be done and why. The actual roof replacement was completed with the maximum of speed and care as was clear when we viewed pictures of our new roof. We would not hesitate to recommend John, at John Stewart Roofing to our friends, nor to use his services again ourselves.

Roof replacement

I would heartily recommend J. Stewart Roofing. We had a full roof replacement done this summer due to the age of the roof and an interior leak. John, the owner, responded promptly to my request for an estimate and was friendly and personable when we met. I received several quotes from various roofers, the highest of which was double that of the lowest, and the one from J. Stewart Roofing was in the middle range. The quote was not inexpensive, but it seemed fair for the size of the roof and the work required. John struck me as knowledgeable, trustworthy, and fair-minded. One of the things I most appreciated was that, while we waited to have our roof replaced, John was willing to do a temporary fix on the roof in order to stall the interior leak. The fix held out for a while, but there was a period of heavy, prolonged rainfall, and so John had to return, which he did immediately and without question. The crew, led by Ray, was hard-working, polite, and tidy. Ray kept me well-informed about progress on the roof and any changes to the expected schedule. For example, one day the weather forecast called for rain the following afternoon. Ray spoke to me at the end of the day and at the start of the next to explain that the crew might have to stop work earlier than usual, due to the weather, but reassured me that they would continue until the section of the roof they had been working on was completed. It has been over a month since the roof was replaced and it looks good, the leak is gone, and there have been no other problems. Recently, there was a minor home insurance matter that Renai, the financial controller, took care of efficiently. We are very pleased with the work that was done, and truly like the people who did it. Many thanks to J. Stewart Roofing.

New Roof

Just wanted to say thank you to John and his crew. I was very impressed by the service I received and the expertise in doing my new roof. The crew was on time, courteous and explained everything they were going to do. They even made sure that everything was cleaned up before they left. I will definitely be recommending you to all my contacts. Thanks again! Denis

New shingled roof and replace rotting fascia boards and insufficient eavestrough.

J Stewart Roofing was referred to me by a top-notch wildlife control business, that we have successfully used before more than once on previous homes, a company that removes wildlife from attics, etc., after creatures have made their way through a vulnerable roof or decaying fascia. Therefore, this wildlife control company has seen lots of roof repair or replacement work done by a number of big and small Toronto roofers.

First, there was a home visit and consultation with John Stewart, who went up on the roof to examine it and who took pictures to show me where the shingles were worn away, etc. He was patient and accommodating and took lots of time to answer my questions about materials, ice dams, fascia boards, how things get done, etc. And he wasn't aggressively pushing for the job. I agreed to work with them.

I was not disappointed. There were two crews, one who re- shingled the whole roof, a complicated roof design, and another who followed who replaced the fascia and installed the new, one-piece, 30 foot stretch of gutter. (The previous one had a seam half way along and was leaking from there.)

Dan and Andrew, the two respective crew leaders, were very personable and kind, who took time to answer any questions, took pictures of the finished roof work that you couldn't see from the ground, etc. Their workmanship appeared excellent (I checked by going up on the lower reaches of the roof), and both crews cleaned up very well.

I would recommend them to anyone, including my sister, who is going to use them for roof work on her own house.

skylight

I'm in the middle of renovating my kitchen, and would love a skylight for some natural light, being that my kitchen is located in the centre of my house. I knew the best person to call is John Stewart from "J Stewart Roofing". John has done a roof for me, in my previous house, and, five years ago, I called John again, when I had moved into my new home. Well, new for me. The house was built in 1962, so there have been a few renovations throughout the years. After just one year of living here, I called John again, in tears! Water was coming into my kitchen, during a major rainstorm! John came right away, told me what the issue was, with honestly and fairness. I needed a new roof. I knew that I was in good hands, from previous experience, so I didn't hesitate to go ahead with the job. The crew and office staff are all very helpful and obliging, in every way. Very neat work area, and super workers. On time, fast and efficient. All concerns were met, from ice shield to shingles, to fascia and eaves! It all looks so beautiful, now!
So... Of course, when I decided on the skylight, who better than
J Stewart Roofing? John just left, and I had to sit down and tell you all that the skylight looks fabulous! I can't wait until morning to see what the room looks like, with all that natural light flooding in! John was precise, neat, fast, very friendly, and affordable! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend John, Renee, and the friendly staff at J Stewart Roofing to anyone who asks! They, truly, are a dedicated bunch. I have complete trust that all would be thrilled with the results!
Thanks again, John! I love it!!!!

Flat roof replacement

When water started leaking into our bathroom this spring, I called several roofing companies. John is a very personable and professional contractor, who explained the reason for the leaks, took photos of damaged areas, and suggested that we strip off the many layers of flat roofs, repair any rotten wood, before putting down a new roof. His crew worked quickly, completing the work in a day and leaving the site as clean as they found it. Telephone and text communication was excellent throughout the process and the final bill was true to the estimate.

roofing

J Steward Roofing is the most DISHONEST and DECEPTIVE company I have ever dealt with. DON"T hire them to do your roof or you will REGRET it. I paid this company to lay down ice and water barrier on my roof (as written in the contract), but they DID NOT. In fact they did not even use tar paper, they literally just nailed the tiles to the roof. Even the tiles they used, which they guaranteed for 20 years, did not last more than 8 years. My roof kept leaking year after year, it damaged my carport, my interior walls and rotted the wood around my skylight (which I ended up having to replace). Now when tiles were laid down it was really hard to know what the roofers did underneath unless your are home keeping a watchful eye (I was not ). So when the roof kept leaking time and time again, both my boyfriend and I called J Stewart roofing on several occasions about it but they kept saying it wasn't their fault or their workmanship, but it was due to the slope of my roof. They were bullies and yelled at my boyfriend saying, "how dare you question our work". J Stewart Roofing SHOULD be questioned. I posted a pic of my roof and you can see clearly no ice and water barrier. I have had to replaced my entire roof. I have contacted the Better Business Bureau and by writing this review hope to save you the anguish and financial catastrophe I endured.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience with us. I am surprised and astonished to be reading this review because we take customer service and experience very seriously here at J Stewart. After we had originally installed the roofing in 2007, we received a call about a leak in the roof. It was the middle of Winter and we showed up to find a very large ice dam on your roof, causing water backup. At this time, we removed the ice dam which appeared to solve the problem. Unfortunately, Canada’s severe weather extremes can cause these kinds of issues and should not be associated with the workmanship of the roof. Also, our follow up inspection with you lead us to believe that you were satisfied with the work. That was over 5 years ago and we haven't heard from you since. Any leaks that occurred after this service would be a result of the same Winter Ice problems and we would have been more than happy to help with these as well. Keep in mind that if an ice dam problem is persisting, the next step is to install deice cables. Also, we were not aware of your dissatisfaction with product used for this service. The shingle warranty is something offered and backed by the manufacturer and if we had been made aware of this problem, we would have been more than happy to approach the manufacturer regarding an appropriate resolution. I cannot say what is going on from the photos attached, as the roof we installed has been stripped off. Again, we take our service standards very seriously and always strive for polite and friendly interactions with our clients. If you would like to take some time to discuss these issues further, please contact us directly! Thanks again!

Roof Repair

Highly recommend this company! Difficult roof successfully repaired at last! Here's the story. We had a new roof put on by another company that led to numerous problems they were unable or unwilling to fix. The last problem, which they attempted to fix unsuccessfully was a leak in a dormer. I called John Stewart and Andrew came during a heavy rain in order to better detect the issues, and stood outside on a ladder in the rain to examine the area. He identified the issue, which related to improper installation of the new roof in the first place, and came up with a plan to fix it in a way that didn't break the bank. The crew came and repaired the area. I didn't post a review right away because I wanted to see what happened in the rain. But now, a year later, I can report that the area is still clean and dry! Thank you John Stewart, Andrew, and everyone in the company!

Roof, eavestroughs, soffit and fascia

Highly recommend J Stewart Roofing. They replaced our large roof, repaired a LOT of wood damage from raccoons, installed new soffit and fascia, new eavestroughs and disconnected us from the city sewers. 3 separate Stewart crews (experts specific to each part of the job) were all very pleasant. John gave us pictures of the roof damage with his quote, gave us options and explained the differences in his suggested materials. When the last crew was called off to another job, the owners actually came by (!) to clean up the last dropped nails and bits and pieces of the old roof. Left everything looking tidy and new. Very happy!
