Northland Home Hardware Building Centre
Northland Building Supplies

Like Kathie R I, too have had the misfortune of dealing with Northland Home Hardware Building Centre. My question to them before I paid them was could they do the work on a timely basis and when would the garage be completed. It is now six weeks past the completion date and not only are they nowhere near being done they tell me the next trades’ people (insulators) cannot start for at least two weeks.
I have a file folder full of notes where I have called and asked for a call back and never received a response. Worse is when you speak with Jerry Dolynchuk the owner as he will make any promise he can to get you off the phone but the promises are just promises, nothing changes.
I have spent countless hours repairing work that they have done incorrectly. There weren’t too many things that needed be done specially, it is just a garage after all, but the electrical and eavestroughing were to be done as per the drawings. Neither trades got the full information as to what was to be done from Northland Home Hardware. I have had to rewire the garage door opener, take down the attic door and ladder assembly because they were put in the wrong spot and countless other tasks.
One of the more depressing parts of this whole ordeal was when the City of Edmonton building inspector came. He grabbed a of wall with one hand and gave it a shake and told me this was a very shaky structure. He showed me what I will have to do to make it more rigid and said “you’re going to want to do this, it does get windy here you know”
I was confident going into this that I had made the right choices. The trades that I hired directly, concrete and gas fitter, did exactly what they said they would do and on time. I could not have been more wrong on my choice of builder. Northland Home Hardware was several thousand dollars more than either of the other two quotes I received but I wrongly chose to go with them. I am not new to the construction experience; we’ve been through two home renovations. The owner of this business just does not care.
I am now going to hire the trades to finish my garage directly and seek remediation through the court system.
My advice ….go anywhere else, it can’t be as bad.

Garage package and building

These guys are the worst for finishing a project. I have paid in full as they demand that before they even start the work. I has been almost 3 months later and it is still not finished. When you call them they give you promises about things being scheduled and then they don't carry through. They give you all kinds of excuses. It's been raining too much or its getting busy now. I paid for a project and I have to hassle them to get it finished. I have gone to BBB and CHBA. Maybe they can help me get this finished. I'll be lucky to have it finished by the time the snow flies. My advice..........go somewhere else.

Cabinets

Between the lack of employees, short stock, and poor customer service its amazing this place is even in business. First of all, my daughter was offended at the name of the man cave area. I understand that word mancave is fairly common but all thats in there are tools, windows, and the lumber order desk. Refering to this as 'man cave' sounds like somthing sexist from the 50s. Half of the people in there were women, I'm surprised they would want to single women out like that. Apparently Home Hardware has no standards for this sort of thing. Our purchase, against my wifes better judgement, was a new set of kitchen cabinets. Although they were not the cheapest, the brand that we went with wasn't available at the other big box stores, so we desided to buy. Once we left the deposit, everyone stopped answering our calls, no progress was being made, and we were left hanging. After several weeks, we finally stormed in for a refund and requested the manager, who appeared to be an inexperienced kid, literally, had to be less than 20. At first we thought it was a joke but after speaking to the rude owner turned out to be true. It was at this point when we realized why this place is in the state that its in. Very disappointing. Needless to say we will never shop here again.

Paint

Whenever we have come into the store we have been greeted with very friendly service. Someone has always been there to assist you for whatever you need. When trying to buy paint they were very helpful and worked relentlessly to make sure that we were satisfied with the final color.
