Replace geothermal unit with new one. Install gas hot water heater as well.
I received several quotes to do this job and found the Comfort Shoppe to be the most reasonable. After talking to some of the other people that quoted me for this job, I got the feeling that they were out to lunch. I personally felt that after talking to Glen at the Comfort Shoppe he knows his stuff and is very knowledgeable. I went with his suggestion to go with a dual unit. I now have a Goodman gas furnace and Waterfurnace geothermal . This has saved me several dollars and I have the best of both worlds. I can heat and air condition with my geothermal and have gas back heat which I can also use as main heating when the temperature gets cold. The workers that installed my units were very knowledgeable as well. They were considerate of their surroundings and answered all my questions I had for them while they were installing the units. I would highly recommend the Comfort Shoppe as a place to do business.

This was an interesting job marrying up a geothermal heat pump with a high efficiency gas furnace . We had originally installed the geothermal water furnace unit in 1992 for John with a vertical loop. There was no natural gas lines there . In 1997 natural gas was run up the street and we installed a gas insert . In September the compresser failed on the old water furnace unit and since he already had gas in the house i suggested a Goodman GMVC950704CX 95 % efficient 2 stage gas furnace ecm motor and the water furnace envision split 5 ton geothermal heat pump. with this combination its the best dual fuel system almost a dream system since it combines the geothermal inherent efficiencies and allows the gas furnace to be used if supplemental heat was needed instead of the water furnace optional 15 kw strip heat kit .
The whole thing fits in the same area as the old packaged water furnace unit and is unusual as few geothermal owners also have natural gas . Enjoy your new system John and thanks for the kind words
