LOYAL CUSTOMER FOR MANY YEARS WHO HAS BEEN RIPPED OFF!!!
just now-Edit
Have used Crown many times over the years and was always happy until the most recent job where they totally ripped me off!!! $1800 for two light switches and a charging station install!!
First off, two master electricians were sent at a billable rate of $125 per hour EACH. In the past John the owner always sent an apprentice helper with his licenced guy.. I guess that day his two most senior guys were standing around with nothing to do so he decided to send them to me.
First off, they showed up on the WRONG day. We were booked for another day that week. It was my fault I didn't hear the doorbell apparently and they sat in their truck for 10 minutes and so felt the need to start their bill on the clock half an hour before single tool came out of the tool box -- Colin claimed it was my fault for not answering the door. THEY SHOWED UP ON THE WRONG DAY! And did not call first either.
The work took far longer than expected. Two master electricians working together tooK 3.5 hours to install a car charging station with an easy 15 foot cable run that went through one dry walled wall from the electrical room to the garage. Checked on them several times over the hours to find them standing around, on their phones and not working at the pace I'm used to from Crown. Two experienced guys should not take 7 man hours to do this. It was appalling. Two years ago in another house Crown's guy with his apprentice accomplished the same task and more in less time.
In all they were at my house for about 5 hours. $1800 later I'm footing Crown's bill to keep two of their senior guys busy on a slow day. Was very angry and felt taken advantage of. I especially loved getting charged the extra half hour for not hearing the door bell, which (in fact was only about 10 minutes- again, on the WRONG DAY). That's $125 for absolutely nothing.
I spoke to John, the owner and was told he would look into it and call me back. He never did. I've given Crown my business for several years and they have always been jobs >$1000 for hot tub wiring, car chargers, etc. Never again! You guys blew it. Super disappointing. DO NOT USE THEM!!!!

Crown Electric has been in business since 1991. We are well known for our customer service and always try to accommodate. We pride ourselves on professional service and repeat clients.
We are regretful to hear of Aaron’s disgruntlement with our service as he has been a longstanding customer. We apologised to Aaron when the incident occurred, we are sorry for the mix up in the schedule and for surprising him on the wrong day.
When the initial call was taken the customer was hoping for us to come on August 30th 2019, which was a Friday - the same day he called, but there was no one available. I mentioned to him I will call him later in the afternoon if we were able to make it the same day of the phone call if we were able to pull ahead on our schedule. But that wasn’t possible and I phoned back to reschedule for the following week after the long weekend. I tried to book September 3, but he was very busy with his move and said Tuesday September 3rd was no good and will give his car a large charge at his previous location and he would be good till we arrive on the Wednesday September 4th, 2019.
We attempted to knock on the door but there was no answer, so we called his number and left a message on his voice mail. At this point the door was answered and we were told we should have been there on the the Tuesday. We were given entry and the installation was started. The cable from the panel to the garage was not as simple as told. There was a bulkhead on the opposite wall that needed to be fished through and took a little more time than anticipated due to the amount of obstruction in the bulkhead.
Wiring at the panel needed a little more work required due to past work by others. (A Piece of plywood was cut to mount in the garage and needed to be cut twice because he did not want the plywood cut as we did in size.)
Not mentioned in the review is the additional work that was requested to be done. A bedroom on the second floor was divided into two rooms with a new wall that was built. The existing room had one switch which was operating four pot lights.
It was requested to provide a new switch and wiring be installed in the new room and to rewire the four existing pot lights so there would be two pot lights per room and operated by their own switches. To achieve this installation the rewire of the lights and the new wiring for the switch in the new room, all the work was done in the attic for the new wiring and rewire of the pot lights.
Also on there was new wiring provided in the bathroom to allow 3 way switching for the lights so they can operate from two different entrances into the bathroom. This installation was also wired through the attic so that no damages where done to the drywall in the bathroom area.
Regarding the comments of sending the electricians on that day due to not having anything to do. We always have somewhere to go. The customer called me after the installation was completed and we were gone from the site. Within minutes the call was received along with the complaints of not showing up the right day. The matter was discussed and apologised if there was a scheduling misunderstanding and we arrived on the wrong day, however that was not enough.
We did not charge $125.00 per hour as the customer said. Regarding the cost of the invoice it was not just the Hot Tub wiring that was mentioned. The rewire of the second floor bedroom and bathroom wiring was an additional cost to the Hot Tub. To achieve the other wiring, rewire of the spotlights and new switches for the bedroom and bathroom are also included in the cost of the installation.
