LOYAL CUSTOMER FOR MANY YEARS WHO HAS BEEN RIPPED OFF!!!

just now-Edit
Have used Crown many times over the years and was always happy until the most recent job where they totally ripped me off!!! $1800 for two light switches and a charging station install!!

First off, two master electricians were sent at a billable rate of $125 per hour EACH. In the past John the owner always sent an apprentice helper with his licenced guy.. I guess that day his two most senior guys were standing around with nothing to do so he decided to send them to me.

First off, they showed up on the WRONG day. We were booked for another day that week. It was my fault I didn't hear the doorbell apparently and they sat in their truck for 10 minutes and so felt the need to start their bill on the clock half an hour before single tool came out of the tool box -- Colin claimed it was my fault for not answering the door. THEY SHOWED UP ON THE WRONG DAY! And did not call first either.

The work took far longer than expected. Two master electricians working together tooK 3.5 hours to install a car charging station with an easy 15 foot cable run that went through one dry walled wall from the electrical room to the garage. Checked on them several times over the hours to find them standing around, on their phones and not working at the pace I'm used to from Crown. Two experienced guys should not take 7 man hours to do this. It was appalling. Two years ago in another house Crown's guy with his apprentice accomplished the same task and more in less time.

In all they were at my house for about 5 hours. $1800 later I'm footing Crown's bill to keep two of their senior guys busy on a slow day. Was very angry and felt taken advantage of. I especially loved getting charged the extra half hour for not hearing the door bell, which (in fact was only about 10 minutes- again, on the WRONG DAY). That's $125 for absolutely nothing.

I spoke to John, the owner and was told he would look into it and call me back. He never did. I've given Crown my business for several years and they have always been jobs >$1000 for hot tub wiring, car chargers, etc. Never again! You guys blew it. Super disappointing. DO NOT USE THEM!!!!

Company Response

Crown Electric has been in business since 1991. We are well known for our customer service and always try to accommodate. We pride ourselves on professional service and repeat clients.

We are regretful to hear of Aaron’s disgruntlement with our service as he has been a longstanding customer. We apologised to Aaron when the incident occurred, we are sorry for the mix up in the schedule and for surprising him on the wrong day.

When the initial call was taken the customer was hoping for us to come on August 30th 2019, which was a Friday - the same day he called, but there was no one available. I mentioned to him I will call him later in the afternoon if we were able to make it the same day of the phone call if we were able to pull ahead on our schedule. But that wasn’t possible and I phoned back to reschedule for the following week after the long weekend. I tried to book September 3, but he was very busy with his move and said Tuesday September 3rd was no good and will give his car a large charge at his previous location and he would be good till we arrive on the Wednesday September 4th, 2019.

We attempted to knock on the door but there was no answer, so we called his number and left a message on his voice mail. At this point the door was answered and we were told we should have been there on the the Tuesday. We were given entry and the installation was started. The cable from the panel to the garage was not as simple as told. There was a bulkhead on the opposite wall that needed to be fished through and took a little more time than anticipated due to the amount of obstruction in the bulkhead.

Wiring at the panel needed a little more work required due to past work by others. (A Piece of plywood was cut to mount in the garage and needed to be cut twice because he did not want the plywood cut as we did in size.)

Not mentioned in the review is the additional work that was requested to be done. A bedroom on the second floor was divided into two rooms with a new wall that was built. The existing room had one switch which was operating four pot lights.

It was requested to provide a new switch and wiring be installed in the new room and to rewire the four existing pot lights so there would be two pot lights per room and operated by their own switches. To achieve this installation the rewire of the lights and the new wiring for the switch in the new room, all the work was done in the attic for the new wiring and rewire of the pot lights.

Also on there was new wiring provided in the bathroom to allow 3 way switching for the lights so they can operate from two different entrances into the bathroom. This installation was also wired through the attic so that no damages where done to the drywall in the bathroom area.

Regarding the comments of sending the electricians on that day due to not having anything to do. We always have somewhere to go. The customer called me after the installation was completed and we were gone from the site. Within minutes the call was received along with the complaints of not showing up the right day. The matter was discussed and apologised if there was a scheduling misunderstanding and we arrived on the wrong day, however that was not enough.

We did not charge $125.00 per hour as the customer said. Regarding the cost of the invoice it was not just the Hot Tub wiring that was mentioned. The rewire of the second floor bedroom and bathroom wiring was an additional cost to the Hot Tub. To achieve the other wiring, rewire of the spotlights and new switches for the bedroom and bathroom are also included in the cost of the installation.

Competitive Prices from ESA Certified Contractor

I have been using Crown Electric for many years. They recently installed two motion sensor lights outside, installed two timer switches inside. I live in a home which is almost 65 years old, with old wiring, and plaster walls, so electrical projects aren't always easy. Mike did the work and everything I needed to have done, was completed and he did a great job. I use Crown for all my electrical needs and recommend them to family and friends.

Several small wiring revisions

The house I had moved into last summer needed some small electrical jobs done to change how some the original wiring had been completed and to also make it more enjoyable in many ways. I had reached out to a few companies for quotes - some I never even heard back from ("job too small", "we're too busy"). But John wrote back and eagerly set up a time for a quote.

When he came out, he was great to deal with, talked everything through so we could understand clearly what the job would entail and also provided advice of a) how to do things properly and b) where there were ways to save costs. We decided to go ahead with Crown and they came out the next week.

The guys who came were also great to work with and did a great job and just like was quoted. They also made sure to clean up their work areas so a mess wasn't left after they'd gone.

We have since enjoyed new lights over our kitchen sink, live circuits added to bedroom ceiling fixtures so fans can run independently of the light switch and the en suite switches are now more conveniently located.

Great job done by John and the guys and at a great price (and as quoted).

Thanks to everyone at Crown Electric. I'd certainly recommend them and will use them again in future should I have more electrical jobs to get done.

Excellent work by excellent electrician. Highly recommend.

CE installed about 13 pot lights in our soffit and rewired switches, installed new switches, had to switch our 6 out of date pot lights, moved my garden hose holder, cleaned up after themselves, etc. They came in substantially under budget but I would have paid the full price. Pleasant, punctual, professional electricians. I highly highly recommend CE.

Excellent company- would recommend

I hired crown electric in August, 2017 to bring my finished basement up to the electric code and replace my service panel. This company was pleasant and excellent to deal with. George came by the house and ON TIME for a quote. He thoroughly inspected the basement to give a quote. Adam and his crew worked for two weeks when I decided to hire them, and they cleaned up each day after themselves. The company went above and beyond. I would recommend this company!

Powerless

It really seams to me that Crown Electric is trying to take advantage of me. This small job is not nearly worth what they are charging. I was told 2 people on the phone - they sent 1 and charged more than what I was told. Took me away from my work, then I had to help them with the job. Very, very slow work. At some point you need to ask yourself ‘Where is the value that Crown delivers?’ ‘What is real service?’ The fact that Crown Electric hung up on me this morning tells me exactly what kind of Company I unfortunately chose to deal with.

Company Response

We are sorry that you feel you were being taken advantage of. Due to an unforeseen emergency we were unable to send two electricians. Just to clarify our conversation, two electricians or one electrician, the price is the same. Two men at a job site for 1.5 hours or l man there for 2.5 hours, the labour cost is the same. We did exceed our two hour minimum and we charge in quarterly increments, you were charged for time on site at your home.
As per our conversation prior to the installation at your home, I explained to you what our charges are for our service call and our hourly rate plus whatever parts are required to complete the installation. You did comment more than once, that being a new customer you wanted a special rate for your work that needed to be completed. Again, I did explain and say No Sir, these are our charges. You agreed to our rates and the estimated cost over the phone of the installation and we made a booking for the following morning.
According to my Electrician things went well and you were very happy upon completion of the work, up until the invoice was provided and all went sour with you after that.
As for taking you away from your work, your panel was not labelled and your help to operate the breakers helped you save costs and take half the time. We are terribly sorry you were taken away from your morning schedule at home.
We tried talking to you on the phone to resolve this problem at hand but to no avail.
Crown Electric employees do not have to take verbal abuse from anyone.
Thank you.

Potlight install

I called Crown after getting a couple other companies over to give me a quote. I needed 6 pot lights I purchased put up in my bedroom on a separate switch. The first two company employees kept telling me how hard it could be and how they may have to make swiss cheese out of my walls in order to complete the work, I got the vibe there was not enough money in the job for them to bother. Once one of the owners John came in to look at the work I was immediately surprised at how differently he saw the job. Having actually looked in the attic he saw that it was open and assured me it would be very straight forward.

The workers Adam and Daniel were courteous and went right to the task making sure not to damage my floors with their ladders. A few hours later I was happy to be shown my new lighting and with no holes in my walls and no mess to clean!

Very happy and would recommend
