Long distance move.

Buyer beware. This company is totally unprofessional. They lied about delivery time. They lied about price. They did not respond to phone calls or emails. They sub-contracted the work out to a Quebec firm who then tried to hold the furniture hostage in an effort to get a lot more money out of us. They did not provide a proper quote and were basically abandoning us while the Quebec movers tried to get more money. Do not use this company. I've been through the ringer with these guys.

Moving service

Horrible Experience with CanAmerican. I was moving from Toronto to Washington DC. They came to pick up my stuff on time, who was a contract mover(Multicites). When I initially called them to sign the contract, they were supposed to provide me with 6 boxes and the customs form on the day of moving - but the movers had none of them. After two weeks, I called them to see what the status of my good was, and she told me she will call the dispatch and call me back. But she never did. I called in total of 5 times in a row in one day, but she never called me back saying the same thing that the dispatch hasn't gotten back. Finally, after three weeks since the moving(and after many calls from me) she told me that it will arrive some time next week with a time frame of 3 days. It has been almost 4 weeks since they took my goods now(TWO WEEKS past the deadline) but no sign of arrival. I have to say CanAmerican Vanline has poor customer service, poor communication, and is unreliable.

Company Response

In response to your complaint on May 21, 2007 regarding your move from Toronto to Washington DC, we are sorry you were disappointed with your move, as keeping our customers satisfied is our priority. Upon booking it is standard that confirmation is sent to each customer via fax or e-mail outlining the details of the move including, pick-up and delivery times and any packing materials that have been ordered. For long distance moves between Canada and the United States, it is typical for delivery to take 4 to 6 weeks after pick-up. Your delivery arrived within this time frame. Please contact our claim manager at your earliest convenience. Your satisfaction is our commitment and we are confident that we can come to an agreement over these concerns.

Moving

NEVER HIRE THIS COMPANY!!!
I hired CanAmerican to both pack up boxes at a house in Ottawa and move them along with furniture back to Toronto all in one day. They showed up in Ottawa over an hour late and then men who came were friendly but had no packer with them. They called one in and it took him another hour and a half to arrive. When everything was packed up and the movers were on the road ,I called the company to see when they esitmated the truck to arrive in Toronto (my father and I were leaving work early to meet the truck at my storage locker, which I had rented specifically to store the contents of this move). When I spoke to Pamela she was extremely rude and told me to expect my goods in 2-3 weeks - I had ordered them to arrive SAME DAY. She was unapologetic and said that they tell all of their customers it will take that long. Yet, when she had booked our move she had made arrangements for the movers to call me when they left Ottawa and when they got in that day. She had also told us to expect the truck around 4pm, but if they had other pickups they would arrive latest the next morning. She refused to tell me what day to expect the goods and would not give me the name nor number of a manager. I am still waiting to hear from them regarding our delivery.

Company Response

In response to your complaint on April 16, 2007 regarding your move form Ottawa to Toronto, we are sorry that you were disappointed with your move, as keeping our customers satisfied is our priority. It is standard for long distance moves within Ontario that customers are given a pick-up time, such as between the hours of 9-5. Often there will be more than one pick-up from the same location and it is more cost effective for the customer to share the truck with other loads. We do have expedited service upon request, however this service is costly compared to scheduled pick-up moves because one customer would be responsible for moving costs such as mileage and gas. It is typical that long distance moves within Ontario may take 1 to 2 weeks after pick-up for delivery. This time may vary based on the other pick-ups and deliveries scheduled for the truck.
Because your satisfaction is our commitment we offered to cover 1 month of your storage fees, as your delivery did not arrived as you had planned. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Moving Service

I had some thngs moved into storage to sell my home. The movers showed up on time but but with no foot protection. They tracked dirt and mud all over the new carpet I had installed to sell. When they were finished packing they asked for a reference letter and pointed out the "tip" area of the invoice. I felt blackmailed as they still had my stuff. They took about 2 hrs and 10 minutes to load up the van (half and hour of which was getting my large refridgerator out the door and 20 minutes was getting visa verification from their head office). They then charged me for 5 hours moving time. This didn't make sense. They wouldn't have to spend more time unloading than loading nor would they have to get visa verification etc. When I went to sign for the storage unit they had increased the unit size on me without informing me and wanted $250/month instead of the $190 agreed on. The reason - the fridge wouldn't fit through the door of the storage unit. It fit through my front door. They charged me a $100 deposit for the move on MC but I couldn't produce it to give them an imprint when they came because I had actually lost the card and was awaiting a replacement. They said I would have to pay the whole moving fee on another card and be refunded the deposit. I did so...this was a month ago and I still haven't got my deposit refunded! I have called repeatedly and am told 'it will be processed today, we are so sorry" but no refund has come. I have filed a complaint with MC.

Company Response

In response to your complaint on March 21, 2007, we are sorry that you were disappointed with your move as keeping our customers satisfied is our priority. All of our movers carry ample supply of both floor protection and shoe covers to each move. Your move was assessed at 5 hours because it included loading, 1 hour travel time and unloading at the storage facility. All drivers are required to obtain verification when payment is made with Visa or MasterCard typically this process takes 3-5 minutes as the call is placed to the credit card authorization centre.
In regards to the refund for your MC, it was necessary for you to provide us with your card number in order for us to complete a refund. It is company policy that we do not keep credit card numbers on file for customer security purposes. Upon receiving your card number again, we refunded your deposit. We try to make moving easier by suggesting a self-storage location when required by the customer. We do our best to assess storage need however storage size is determined by the volume of contents being moved. Because your satisfaction is our commitment we agreed to pay the difference in the amount of your storage locker.
