STAY AWAY!
I bought a new build house through sunlight heritage homes and want to help other buyers steer clear of what will be a headache.
It started with the design team. The young girl working did not give me all options available. I picked black windows and during building I noticed the windows on the front of the house were black and all other windows were white. This is not what I agreed to. I was told this was in the fine print and that I shouldve read the 40 page small print document in more detail. You would think the design team would make you aware of this. Also everything is an upgrade. When picking the exterior colours (I chose all dark) the garage comes in white. Therefor having to upgrade the garage to black to match everything else. This cost was the price of a new garage door on top.
This company puts up houses as fast as they can and use tradesmen who obviously bid at the lowest possible number. Although they have eradicated some issues after fighting tooth and nail to get issues fixed they still refuse to fix items. I will be going through tarion to help assist me with getting them done.
Some of the issues Ive had:
-Shingles were redone due to clay being baked in from workers boots.
-exterior lights being hung upside down with calking being an inch and a half thick (looks so bad)
-garage door had to be replaced due to bubbling.
-Exterior siding above garage was redone 3 times due to worker having no idea what hes doing.
-drain pipes crooked all the way down.
-window sills not slanted away from the windows (pooling water)
-fuse boxes left live and not finished.
-doors not installed properly, wouldnt slide or open correctly/wind coming through.
-curb intruding driveway by 2 feet.
-light switch plates being literally cut to fit shelving (not joking)
-exterior window wells left with dirt in them and not cleaned out and little to no stone in them.
-cheap driveway installed after grass so grass does not butt up against the driveway.
-doorbell out on the inside of the jam facing inward. They state this is normal and deal with it.
-vents cheap and noisy and slam with very little wind. They stated their heating guy stated its fine. When he came out he fixed one and stated he was scared of heights and would come back and never did.
-electrical issues galore
This company uses the cheapest materials and will not help you. They use an online forum and will not pick up the phone or talk to you. The communication aspect is the MOST frustrating part of the whole process. Nobody cares, nobody wants to help and they play hardball with anything that needs to be fixed.
At first I wondered if I was being picky but after speaking to other builders and agents Ive learned they do NOT have a good reputation. Some of the contractors coming out to fix issues literally laughed at the work done and also state Sunlight heritage homes have a TERRIBLE reputation.
You will notice their 5 star reviews are all family and friends like other people have stated.
Honestly the market/economy is changing and prices are dropping. Go to a reputable builder and stay away from this company. They are just out for a quick buck and care nothing about YOU as the buyer.
