Hot water tank repair

We called Priority Plumbing to fix our hot water tank. We weren't getting hot water, more like luke warm and then cold water. When they came to the house the worker was polite and said our dip tube needed repair. He quoted~$400 for the dip tube and other quotes for replacement tanks with and without membership. We had never dealt with fixing a hot water tank and were in desperate need of hot water so we agreed with just the replacement of the dip tube. They required a 30% deposit plus the $50 inspection fee. There was no negotiating for the deposit. The next day when the worker came it took him 35 min to replace the dip tube with a bill that ended up being $570!!!!! When I called the main office to see if they could break down the price for me, they explained that they couldn't and that it was a fixed price that the head office gives them. The person I spoke to explained that it was an average price of how much it would cost for any job of that kind.irregardless of the time it takes to fix. With however many years of experience, that's the price that they came up with taking into consideration labour and supplies. That was the only excuse they could give me.
Are you kidding me?? I'm pretty sure there's no plumbing company out there that would charge $570 for 35 min of work and a 50cm pipe. I will never use Priority Plumbing again and will definitely tell EVERYONE I know of the service and ridiculously outrageous pricing that they charge. I can't believe they can charge these prices and somehow feel that it's justified.

Approximate cost of services:
$570.00

Company Response

Hi Rebecca, We quoted you the price before we started the job so you should not have been surprised when we completed the job, and there are no excuses necessary to make. Please take into consideration our time to diagnose the water heater, drive and pickup the parts, come back and perform the repair, it adds up 4 hours of work, not 35 minutes. The $570 dollars included $66 in taxes which we have no control over, and $49 for the service call that was explained to you over the phone before we dispatched our technician. I dont think that $400 for four hours of work including the parts is outrageous. It is important to note that we did solve your problem perfectly according to the price we quoted you. We are pleased to have provided you with competent, fast, quality work, with a written guarantee at the promised price. Thank you for being a valued customer.
