The worker showed up first thing on Wednesday morning, by 10.30 am all equipment and supplies arrived. Every night the job site was cleaned. Friday the work was finished and everything was back to normal in my yard.

Intro - Retired Inspector, Auditor and for a short time Health & Safety Office.
Note - Two roofing companies would not tackle this roof.
Note - Employees came in Penfold vehicles. Labor not contracted out.
An amazing crew of 3. This is a multi pitch multi dormer roof and they worked through wind and low temperatures. Every day the ground level protected and cleaned up at end of shift. Respectful and well mannered.
One member performed the multiple gable replacements and absolutely amazing craftsmanship. So pleased. The entire project is a 'work of excellence'. Penfold held true to the contract.

January 2021, a storm comes through Caulfeild. Above the sound of rain drumming on the roof there’s an unfamiliar tick, tick, tick. Water is dripping from the ceiling onto the floor. Out comes the bucket and towels. Once the storm is over, I fetch the stepladder and look around the roof but can’t see any likely cause.
Start researching roofing contractors. I prefer to shop locally when possible so I look first at North Shore contacts. All say they are busy, but only Penfolds say they will send someone to take a look next day.
Jason arrived on time next day. He went on the roof and located an old caulked repair which had failed. We discussed the age and condition of the roof and I agreed to look at a quote for full replacement, and meanwhile a repair crew would come and tarp over the damaged area for a fixed charge which could be offset against a new roof should I go that route.
The repair crew arrived the very next day and installed the tarp.
Two business days later Jason brought the quote to the house. I decided to go ahead.
Two weeks later the crew had finished the new roof – shingles on 2,800 sq ft of bungalow. New flashings, valleys and vents. At some point a part of the existing eavestrough was damaged. Jason asked me to choose a contractor to repair it and next business day the contractor was here and it was fixed.
This all could have been a very stressful experience but it went very smoothly. Everything happened to schedule or sooner. The crew were outstanding workers, and the site clean-up was perfect.
It doesn’t get any better.

With a busy year and my late planning for a roof replacement it ended up being November and early December before Penfolds could get the work done. I was anxious about doing the work during the rainy season but Penfolds got it done. The installers were professional, responsive and got it done as the rains let up over a couple weeks. I'm very happy with my new roof!

Penfolds replaced our roof in November. It was a complex job because of a number of renovations to an older house, done in the middle of November. The crew did an excellent job and I was very pleased to have a worry free roof for the massive rain we have had this December. THe price was similar to other quotes and I had excellent follow-up and service through the office. I would highly recommend them.

I hired Penfolds Roofing to replace the roof and gutters on my mothers house. Adam, the sales rep was professional and courteous. Knowledgeable about the products. The prices were comparable and lower( gutters) than other quotes. The installers of both the roof and gutters were great. Nice people, willing to answer my questions and concerns to help my mom. Next morning, experienced and personable roofers Phil and Ian arrived dark and early. They listened attentively, thoroughly inspected the leak area, attic and roof, and, in a few hours, scrupulously fixed the problem.

We had been thinking of replacing our asphalt shingle roof for a few years. We finally saved up enough to get it done and were looking for companies with long life products, and good reputations. We eventually ended up going with Penfolds even though they weren't the cheapest as they had a superior product. Harvey, the technical and sales guy was super friendly and informative. Then began the frustration.

-Aug 22 signed agreement. Was told mid Oct, but would try to get scheduled before end of Sept.
-Aug 26, payment taken
-Sept 2 contract and agreement set
-Radio silence until I called Mariya Oct 7, and got a call back Oct 9. Scheduled for Oct 14/15 install and would call Oct 13 to confirm. Sunny all week. No call.
-Left a voicemail Oct 14 for update, no response.
-Spoke with the office secretary (Olivia who was very helpful) Oct 16, who forwarded an email to Mariya for response. Also no reply.
-Contacted Harvey, Oct 20 who confirmed it was pushed to Oct 27
-Week of Oct 27, again no contact. Contacted Mariya again Oct 30 for update, confirmed install Nov 3 and would call Nov 2. Again no call on Nov 2.
-File passed to Nikki who called immediately to confirm start on Nov 5, weather dependent.
-Roof work started Nov 5, found quote was wrong as shiplap was found instead of plywood. Additional $6700+tax after roof already removed. At this point we didn’t have any choice with the shingles already torn off.
-Roof work finished Nov. 10. Gutters still not installed. Scheduled more than 3 weeks later Dec 4.
-Gutters and project completed Dec 4.

Workmanship: Overall was good. The crews were friendly and respectful.
A couple details that were not great, but didn't bother me too much. The chimney flashing was not done great, the flashing looked like it was just bashed on with a hammer. The other minor annoyance was some of the gutter elbows leak from pinholes in the bends.

Communication: To be blunt, it was awful. I expected far more from a large company. Not hearing anything for weeks on end, and having to chase after them when they didn’t call as promised was frustrating. I would expect at a minimum contacting a customer if you are going to miss a promised date.

Cleanliness: Nails galore after each work day, and more left after work ended. Luckily I power washed and swept the driveway after the bin was gone or I would certainly have nails in my tires. Minor stains to railing from shingles thrown down from roof. I’m still finding pieces of plastic wrap and bits of broken shingles around the yard.

Timeliness and keeping to budget: Unimpressive. The install should have been in mid Oct, but due to the ball being dropped multiple times, ended up completing Dec 4. From signing to completion was 15 weeks! Thankfully we were proactive and not needing this done due to a failing roof. Project was overbudget by over $7k due to an incorrect assessment of shiplap needing plywood.

Overall: Not recommended. While the workmanship and product is good, crews were good and a few of the staff tried to be helpful, for a large company they are sadly disorganized. This ended up being a far more frustrating experience than it needed to be.

Value, Integrity, Professionalism.

These are words that I thought I would never think of when it came to this industry, and yet here I am writing them due to the wonderful experience, that I had with the Penfolds family. I had become weary of trying to find a contractor that could assist me with my home roofing project. I had interviewed a number of roofing contractors prior to contacting Penfolds, and had become very uncomfortable with the vagueness of their approach, over pricing and lack of knowledge towards my general questions. With Penfolds, they had redefined what every homeowner wants to experience with a roofing company. This company exhibited true value in the quality and competitive pricing in the variety of their product line. Not only is their workmanship and products guaranteed with a transferable warranty if my home was sold, but they stand behind each home project with integrity. The company is well organized and had displayed professionalism at every level of the process I went through from initial interview, product review, quote, contract review, signing, pre inspection, starting my roof job, daily clean up, daily field supervisor inspection, final job review and closure.

I had initially contacted their company online and was contacted within a few days by a Technical Advisor. He met with me promptly at my home, went over all of my roofing concerns and took the time to photograph and to document my home in detail. He was able to study my project and to recommend product options that suited my needs, for the specific area of the city that I live in of Coquitlam. What I found absolutely stunning about this company is the depth of what they can do for problem areas of my roof. I had explained to him that I had an overhang that was too short in the face of my home, and 3 other areas that had water overflow problems which damaged my sub fascia and face fascia. He has an intimate knowledge of roofing designs and explained to me their ability to correct problem areas of my roof as they have a professional carpenter team that works on site. No other company that I had interviewed had this kind of depth and was willing to address any of these roofing issues or to offer me options. Others were willing to let the problems continue as long as they got the roofing contract. The workmanship that I personally observed the carpenter perform on my house was beyond breathtaking and best of all affordable. There are no words to describe the value, safety and peace of mind that has now been awarded to me. It took over a week to complete my roof and I had the pleasure of meeting and observing my team of 3 roofers go through their daily ritual of clearing the old tiles off my roof, preparing the roof and installing my Twin Ultra Rubberized Asphalt shingles. The crew was respectful to me, my home and showed great care in completing my roof project. They were very well experienced with this type of roof conversion from concrete tiles to asphalt shingles and coordinated the project daily with their field supervisor and on site carpenter. From start to finish they were on time and on budget. They acted as a team and pulled together. Once the project was completed, the Technical Advisor and Field Supervisor, each took time to follow up with me on my project. They reviewed the roof in detail before final closure of the project.

With Penfolds you are not just getting a roof, you are getting true value, overwhelming integrity and professional staff working on your roof project. Given that this is one of the most important home projects that I had to address, I am happy that I selected a company that had depth of knowledge, experienced staff and a family that stands by their name and workmanship.

We chose Penfolds as they undertook re-roofing projects for two family members in the past and also given their long established presence in the Lower Mainland. We did view a number of projects Penfolds had underway and others recently completed and were very impressed.

Adam did a great job with his detailed quote, advice and follow-up when needed. The crew led by Jessie were fantastic, very hard working and with attention to detail. Brian overseeing, Peter with his carpentry skills and Mariya co-ordinating were an integral part of the team.
