skylite and bathroom fan

I had a skylite and fan put into the master bathroom in the house. I found that the employees were knowledgable on the products that i purchased and able to answer any questions i had. They were prompt on the time and date that they were coming to install the skylite. Also for the job they did, it was very affordable. Their 10 yr warranty eases my mind since not many company's actually gaurante their workmanship. i would recommed metro skylite to anyone.

Replace one skylight, and One New Skylight

We first hired Metro Skylight to replace an aging fiberglass skylight back in 2002 with a nice new Velux skylight. The job was done very well. From the first visit, to the final clean up - we were very impressed. And our skylight has been perfect. A few years later, we hired them again to install another skylight for us (a new install). Once again, everything was perfect. Total quality. I should add - both are very large, powered skylights - not the easiest thing to deal with. I have never hesitated in recommending Metro Skylight. I onlly wish they a) did other services (windows) as I would hire them again in a heartbeat, abd b) that other contractors were even half as good. I hope the business is doing well, as they deserve to suceed.

Replaced 3 existing skylights

I felt very confident going with Metro after several in person quotes from other companies. They were the most knowledgeable and direct in their appraisal. They saw 2 problems that no other company did that were legitimate. In fact, they fixed one at no charge. The other needed to be fixed from a different tradesman so there was no ulterior motive on their part to point out a problem area. I was concerned initially because they started a day after originally discussed but after that the job was perfect. The work was done in a timely manner, they were neat and efficient and the end product has been exceptional.

Install a skylight

Metro Skylite went well beyond my expectations. Ron was professional from start to finish. He quoted, contracted and executed flawlessly. I had a 34x34 Velux light installed on a flat roof. This job was carried out without a hitch. Ron's team (Steve and Dave) was great. I am 110% pleased. If you are considering having a skylight installed or repaired I would not hesitate to use Metro Skylight.

New Skylight

Quality is a given. What really stood out was the service. The service started at the selection stage, which skylight brand was best for the room, through to post install service.

The service really stood out when I asked Ron to install an exhaust vent on the ceiling along with the skylight. Unknown to me, the general contractor on site asked Ron (who I had hired directly) to move it after it had been installed. Ron never mentioned this nor charged for it. A few days pass, and the framer informs me that the exhaust needs to be moved. I call Ron, he comes by within a few hours and does the move. After the work is completed, Ron mentions to me that this is the 3rd time he has installed the vent...a surprise to me.

A man who takes pride in his work, the Mike Holmes of Skilights.

Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Take time to consider how many skylights you really want...if you want one, you will actually want two...once the skylight is in you will undoubtedly say I wish I would have put one more in...

Replacement of roof / ceiling including two skylights

My wife and I were facing a VERY SERIOUS problem with a sloped ceiling in our master bathroom - it had begin to sag significantly over the winter and the two skylights in the ceiling were cracking and threatening to fall apart.

After two months of desperately seeking help from general contractors and roofers (who I really didn't want to call as our experience with roofers has been universally bad), my wife suggested calling Ron at Metro Skylite. We had used Metro to replace two leaking skylights about three years prior, and Ron / Metro did a fine job. I was a little apprehensive as this was a much bigger job than just replacing skylights, but agreed that giving Ron a call was probably a good idea.

Ron was highly responsive to my phone call on a Sunday, and came to visit the house the next day. When he saw the state of the bathroom ceiling / roof, he quickly confirmed that the situation was a near-emergency. Within 24 hours he provided a thorough written proposal and patiently addressed a long list of questions we had. In his proposal he also noted that the flashings on the two skylights he installed years before, had been compromised by roofers the year before (see note above re roofers) and would likely leak in the next little while. He advised that these flashings be replaced, and also that an old dormant chimney be removed as its condition was poor and it represented an high potential for leaks into the house. With anyone else, I might have been worried about these "add on" items being unnecessary, but my past experience with Ron made us comfortable that he was sincerely looking out for our best interests.

Within days of signing the work order, Ron and his guys were hard at work removing an entire large section of the old roof, and reconstructing it including two new skylights. Despite the work being 3 stories up, and right beside the master bedroom, at the end of each day there was very little mess, inside or outside of the house, including inside the bathroom where they were working -- most of the work was done from the outside. In addition to the agreed scope of work, Ron and his guys identified and corrected problem areas (poor / missing insulation, serious wiring and venting problems with my bathroom ceiling fan, etc) and cleaned up other major deficiencies and messes left buried in the walls and roof by prior "contractors" and roofers.

After 5 days, the job was finished beautifully, and my wife and I are resting easy knowing that our house / roof is secure again. Ron took photos of the entire job so that I would have a record of the work, and so that I could appreciate the level of effort and quality that went into the project.

As Ron will readily admit to you, Metro Skylite is not the cheapest option, but based on my two experiences with them, the extra dollars are VERY well spent.

Ron is quick to provide proof of liability insurance, WSIB waivers, etc., and I STRONGLY encourage other Homestars users to seek these items out from any / every tradesperson / contractor that sets foot in or near the house. If not provided by the tradesperson, go elsewhere ! The guys that work for Ron actually work for Ron - they're not sub-contractors / transient tradespeople - they are long-standing employees that Ron knows, trusts, and pays well to retain.

As you can see on his website, Ron has 4 retail locations is not going to run away from his customers in the even that something goes wrong - which I suspect rarely happens.

What could this company do to improve their services?
No advice; they do such a great job
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
As noted above, insist on seeing CURRENT proof of liability insurance and WSIB waiver at a minimum. ALSO, most roofers will tell you they can install skylights, but based on my experiences with roofers, they are ill-equipped to even roof around skylights let alone install them properly. Call Ron !

Skylight Shade

We have an older style skylight that really heats up our 2nd floor. Metro Skylite discussed the options with me and actually talked me down to a much cheaper alternative that works perfectly for us. The installer was courteous and clean, and there was no issues with payment. And then a few weeks later they called to check if we were happy! A very positive experience in all respects. When it comes time to replace the skylight, we will definitely go back to Metro Skylite.
