Knight & Daye Handyman Service

DO NOT HIRE KNIGHT AND DAYE HANDYMAN SERVICES or EUGENE KNIGHT!

I hired Knight and Daye Handyman Services (Eugene Knight) to do some general repair work around my apartment. During the course of this work, and while he was working on my ceiling fan, the ceiling fan stopped working. Although he signed a written guarantee to me that he would fix or replace the fan at his expense, he hasn't done it.

Several weeks have passed. I've made six phone calls to him asking him to fix my fan, as he promised. Each call goes immediately to his Knight and Daye Handyman Services voicemail. He has not returned any calls.

I'm off to the courthouse this morning to file a claim against him. Lucky for me, not only did he sign a written guarantee, I have also found another person who says he did a similar thing to her and she's willing to testify at e

Incidentally, since hiring Knight and Daye Handyman Services, I've discovered that at least one other person is reporting that he committed theft while doing poor-quality work.

I hired Eugene in 2000 to do a variety of tasks: cleaning & staining deck, installing some glass, building some tables for the deck, and some indoor painting. The tables that he had built never lasted the winter. The stain bubbled up, and the wood was splitting.

I started calling Eugene in early spring 2001. I left him many, many, many messages (I think he had call display and was avoiding me) and he never called me back. The only time I spoke to him was when he actually picked up the phone. I managed to speak with him once and asked if he could replace the table tops by May, and he said no. He said to call him after his big job in October. So I waited and called him in October, and he again never called back.

I offered him all kinds of solutions in my messages including borrowing his sander, and me sanding off the bubbling stain myself. I said that he could take off the table tops now, and replace them later in better weather if he was busy with other projects. He never replied.

I called again in January 2002, and then gave up in the spring. I eventually hired another guy to replace all the table tops that I had already spent money on with Eugene.

I had kept these notes as I had intended to take Eugene to small claims court, but I just got so busy that I never followed through.

Excellent service from Eugene who sounded very professional when I telephoned to ask questions about repairs to crown moulding. After viewing my project
he wrote down the cost, including materials, labour and taxes. Within a few days he arrived with the necessary pieces of moulding. He did a meticulous job, explaining all the details, e.g. how he cut and joined the moulding, fixed corners, etc. He took great pains with caulking and painting. He did an immaculate job, including careful housekeeping clean-up duties. I am so happy I found Knight and Daye.
