Derek and his crew were hired to remove 2 dead 40ft+ red pines and undertake stump grinding after having received several estimates from others. Derek was helpful and courteous on the phone; he arrived for the estimate at the promised time and scheduled the follow up service call immediately. His crew of 4 was friendly and professional, arrived with professional tools and equipment and went to work quickly. The job was completed within 2 1/2 hours including removal of all tree debris. Clean-up was quite efficient and we are delighted with the service received. Derek and his company are straight-forward, arrive on time/schedule and perform the job very well. Pricing was comparable to others but in my books prompt, efficient service and reliability is the key to success.Congratulations Derek.

Derek was the 3rd company I called for an estimate to trim a very large tree. I called him on a Saturday night and he was out 1st thing the next morning. His estimate was reasonable so I decided to hire him. He was available the day and time I requested. He and his crew showed up on time and proceeded with the job. The job was done very quickly and cleanup was done very well. It was a pleasure doing business with Derek's Tree Service. I will use him again and will not hesitate to recommend him to other.

We are selling our house next month. The trees around the house badly need pruning before showing to our buyers. Derek's quotation is half the price of another tree company. I did not hesitate to use Derek after reading Homestar's review He is direct and does what he said. His team are nice to be around. I like to work with people like this. He even offered me more chip mulch to cover up my brown patches under the tree to make the place smell nice and look better.

Derek arrived on time to provide the quote that I had requested. He understood that it was a new house for me with lots of expenses and as such just quoted on the work that would accomplish my primary goals. His quoted price was in line with the competition. On the day of the job, he arrived early with his crew, was fast and efficient, and made sure to confirm with me, prior to finishing up, that he had done everything that we had talked about. I would certainly recommend him and use his services again.

He came to my home to give me an estimate to prune a few trees he was prompt and on time. I showed him the job and told him what I wanted pruned and he indicated too me he new exactly what I wanted too achieve by pruning the trees back to get more sun on my pool. He mentioned 3 or four branches on one and three or so on the other pointing up too the branch on the tree .Looking up my self I could not really tell what he was pointing at, so I repeated my self regarding what I wanted and he told me he understands what I wanted so I left it at that.
He gave me a reasonable price for the job and came on the day I needed.

His crew was very nice and prompt and they arrived together with Derek then Derek went too some other job .His crew was nice enough to move the patio set out of the way.His crew prune the first tree how I expected and asked them too do but when Derek returned he was agitated and visibly upset because his crew went over and above in pruning the first tree. So Derek instructed his crew too only cut three branches from the second tree. Needless to say the second tree was not done how I would have liked, there were some more branches’ I would have liked removed. He asked me if there was a problem I told him the pruning was not what I expected
I tried to offer Derek more Money for the job but he refused and really did not want to listen to what I wanted to say, he said It was not worth his time and started telling me how hard the job was and suggested too me to go up the tree and give it a try cutting the branch’s so at this point I realized I was wasting my time talking to him and I went into my home to get his money.

The funny thing during our conversation his guy was still up in the tree looking down at both of us and very close to the branches I would have liked removed. The branches I wanted removed which were only three inches in diameter would have only taken a few more minutes to make a customer happy. He told his guys too come down and that was that. He removed most of the branches from my property some were left behind but that was no big deal and left the larger logs of wood like I asked. They also left my ladder out back which his crew removed from where I had it to use they did not place it back. My pool was full of leaves and saw dust but that was hard to prevent and understandable.

He left us the mulch he promised and I must say Derek was the only one who did take the time to show up at my house to get the job but unfortunately after the job was completed Derek left me with impression I was wasting his time coming to my home providing a service for me and being rude and swearing is not good customer service in my opinion.
I would have liked him to come to collect the money for the job but he sent one of his crew too collect it at the front door and left my home without talking too me at all after our conversation out back..

This review has been edited since It was written the first score was too low and I did get a call from Derek regarding the score which was a informative conversation and at the time of righting this I was unsure how too change the score but I found out how thanks too my kid.
Customer service and communication and how you treat your customer to resolve a misunderstanding is the key too a good company. The score on top of this page still just a number.
How you treat and speak to your customer to me is very important under all situations. Just make sure who ever you deside to hire to prune will some how mark the branches to be removed to avoid any conflict.( paint ball gun}

We had 3 tree removal services come out after reviewing testimonials on Homestars. Derek's was one of the more reasonable ones and after reading the other reviews we decided to go with him. He and his crew showed up on time and took down a 30ft Spruce, cleaned and removed everything in about 1 1/2 hours without damaging the lawn or existing plants around it. He even grinded down a stump from an apple tree I had cut down the prior year free of charge. Great to deal with, crew was excellent and careful and I would highly recommend him to anyone else!

Very helpful in all aspects of completing job. Would highly recommend
to any and all for tree cutting if needed.

There were a bunch of trees on the perimeter of our property that needed to be removed, all less than 3" thick, plus two more trees that were about 6" thick. Derek said that he'd cut the trees, dispose of them and grind the stumps so that the remnants of the tree won't be visible above the ground. His team came to remove the trees, and most of the trees were removed except for some trees that were too close to the fence. He had warned me about that beforehand, saying that his chainsaw would ruin the fence and be dangerous to operate.

After I had paid him for his work and his team left, I noticed at the back of the property behind the shed, his team had left a few stumps ungrinded. So I called him to discuss why that was the case, and he said it was muddy and there were some stacked patio slabs in the way. He told me he would come in to remove those stumps when the weather was better and I had removed the slabs. So I gave him the benefit of the doubt. I removed those patio slabs and notified him that they were removed and the area was not muddy anymore in a voice message. I waited 3 days and no answer from him.

The end result is I had to buy a pick axe and rip out those stumps myself. That took about 1 hour of hacking; one of those stumps was 6" across!

This job involved cutting down 2 trees and grinding the root stumps. The price quotation provided by Derek was competitive with another quotation received earlier and, based on customer testimonials, I asked Derek to perform this work for us.

Derek and his team arrived on time as promised and quickly set up their equipment. The job was completed within short order and Derek's team was also very co-operative in cutting/stacking the firewood for a neighbour as requested. The crew was also very thorough in cleaning up the debris afterwards.

As I have some tree pruning to be performed this fall, I will definitely be calling on Derek to perform this work for us.
