I'll start with a wow.

I approached the folks at Alliance Flooring because of their positive Homestars reviews and I was not disappointed. I first stopped in to the show room and was extremely well cared for from that point forward.

Mike and Timea were extremely helpful at supporting me to choose material and look within my budget. They were also very flexible to help me work within my schedule, which required co-ordination with another contractor working through my kitchen. Like anyone else would, I shopped around and found comparable prices. In the end, I was confident that this team would manage my timeline most effectively.

From there, I was introduced to Zoltan and his crew, who were up there with the most professional and efficient trades people I have ever experienced. They showed up each day by 8:15AM, worked consistently to 5PM, and had the entire project completed within 2.5 days. I was actually shocked by how fantastic these guys were, and would 100% recommend and re-use them in the future.

Patrick,
We tried to do our part as expected and now must thank you for doing yours. Without people like you who don't mind to take a few minutes to write a review, this site and our business wouldn't be where it is. We wish you all the best in your renovated home. Hail Patrick :):). Vinyl Flooring Install

Alliance Floor Source provided the flooring and installation for my living room and hall, and installed baseboards and quarter-round that I purchased myself
Customer service: They made the floor selection very easy, and responded to all my follow-up questions. Their quote was very reasonable. I wasn’t thrilled with the payment requirements (a charge for the estimate [that did later come off my balance], 50% upon signing, and pre-arrangements for them to take the remaining 50% the day of install, before the work was complete). Alliance strongly recommended quarter-round for the baseboards, and although I was initially against this I agreed, and am very happy with the result. I’m very glad they recommended it. I had handled the demo myself and had not felt that sanding was necessary, however agreed to it when told that failing to do so would void my warranty.
I was disappointed with the handling of the install date and first payment. I’d requested an install date prior to the payment being taken, and when the original date provided was not possible, I expected that we would proceed to select a new date. Instead, Alliance assumed I’d agreed to proceed with payment arrangements and took the first payment without providing a date. It was difficult to get Alliance to commit to a date after this. It took several emails and a threat to escalate as a complaint before I was provided with a conditional install date, which Alliance did meet.
Finished Product: I love the flooring (vinyl) they helped me select. The installers arrived on time, and were polite and professional. One item I’d purchased was forgotten at the store, however I agreed to substitute another and the cost of the first was removed from the final charge. The floor and baseboards looked great, once installed. I later found that parts of the floor were bumpy, with little raises and dips, but when I mentioned this to Alliance I was told that this was to be expected, as the vinyl follows the contours of the floor. I was also told that this was why sanding, initially, was so important, so I was disappointed that these ridges still existed even though I had agreed to and paid for the sanding.
I also noticed that the floor immediately next to the heat vent was very weak, and standing there caused the floor to bend downwards. We’ve had to place an end table there to ensure no one steps there and breaks it off. I’ve since learned that this is also normal with vinyl flooring, but would have preferred to know this going in. I also found there was more of a push for me to write a follow-up review than there was any follow-up on the actual job.
I would definitely recommend Alliance, however I would do so with some cautions.

Company Response

Mr Lehman,
First and foremost, thank you for your business.
I will be long in responding to your "payment requirements" comment to help others who read it and this response understand the concept. May I start by saying that we never(!) take the balance payment prior to completing a project and receiving an "all complete" from the Customer. We do however, as you mentioned, Pre-authorize a Credit Card for it at the time the deal is made to make sure we do in fact get paid upon completion (not a day, 3 days or 3 weeks later), just in case something happens to the Customer "between the cup and the lip" outside of our fault or control. Unfortunately things don't always work out with people's finances as they plan and we cannot be on the loosing end because of these possibilities. We were, and are always, up front about our Terms and I don't think we did anything untoward to you regarding them.
I do apologize for any misunderstanding between You and Mike regarding your "yes" answer to his question if you still would like to go ahead when we couldn't accommodate the first date requested. It must be said here, that (hopefully understandably) we cannot and will not book installers and order materials without a deposit and signed paperwork. Only upon receiving a commitment from the Customer are we able to commit our resources to a project.
As to the soft spot in the floor: It is likely due to the sub-floor not being supported near the vent. When Mike originally visited, you had (rigid) parquet glued to the sub-floor that would have helped support the weak sub-floor from the top. YOU removed and disposed of the old floor and prepared the sub-floor for the installation of soft vinyl flooring. Sanding of the high ridges that we suggested and you paid for did not offer, nor guarantee a completely flat and smooth surface. Only that it would bring it closer to the required tolerance of flatness. Minor, technically acceptable imperfections are inherent in that type of sub-floor. I am willing to guarantee you that if one of our installers had stepped close to that area near the vent and noticed that it was soft he would have suggested that it should be supported somehow. That's just the way we roll. Unfortunately it didn't happen. We didn't have anything to do with the structural integrity of the sub-floor, thus it is hard to understand how you can possibly blame us for it's weakness. I take full responsibility for everything anyone working for me does, but cannot for what is outside our purview and/or control. Support under the sub-floor is neither. I also am not certain how we could have anticipated this possibly happening in order to warn you "going in".
I imagine when we contacted you to "follow up" on your project and make sure all was well, is when we asked you for a review. We hope everyone who reads and gets the benefits of these and our Google reviews takes the time to write one themselves, but sadly it is a real problem to get people to take a few minutes and do so. Especially when everything is great and everyone is happy and busy. You can imagine that we had a few more than 250 Customers in the last 6 years. It's like pulling teeth. Our asking once and only once seems to be a burden for some Customers, but what choice do we have? If we don't ask, we don't get!! And these days we can't do without them. We never ask more than ones and never pressure anyone to write one.
Please accept our sincere thanks for the business you had given Alliance Floor Source and the comments you made from which we will learn for the future, and hope to see you and/or your family and friends back soon. Thank You.

laminate flooring

I bought my flooring supplies from Alliance and did the installation myself. They put a little too much pressure on me to write a review, but otherwise I felt that the staff at Alliance are knowledgeable and eager to help.

Company Response

Ilana and READER,
At the risk of people who read this response getting the wrong idea about Alliance's or my (Lehel Fabok, Owner) attitude (please read other 250 or so reviews for an overwhelming testimony of who we are), against Timea's (my wife) and against the advice of most "in the know" in the Marketing and Customer Relations business, I will address this review in detail. Not because it is a 7 (the original review of 0 (zero) was changed by the writer after we asked "why are you trying to ruin our reputation in such a vicious fashion" ?). Any and all Customers are entitled to their opinion and are encouraged to share it here or wherever they prefer. If we do a subpar job or provide no or hardly any service, by all means we deserve what's coming to us. Conversely, if we do well we also deserve a different result. However, I ask the reader to read on with an open mind and come to a conclusion at the end as I state the undisputable facts of this transaction and resulting personally (to me) degrading original reviews and ratings.
Our Homestars listing and in fact our philosophy states that we do NOT have a minimum order value. People who come in for a $10 T moulding get the same service as a $10,000 Customer. No difference. To put things in perspective, the original purchase amount was $763.69 before tax (not $1,000). The visit started about a half hour before closing on November 12th and both Timea and Mike were on hand simultaneously providing help to select the right product, colour and price of laminate. Since this was going to be a "do it yourself" installation by a young lady who had never done anything like this before, Mike brought in material from the warehouse and gave a start to finish clinic on the Showroom floor on what to do when, and how and what to look out for, what tools and techniques to use, etc. We offered to lend her a carpet kicker at no charge to be able to refinish the carpet in the Hall at the doorway. Mike had to leave at 30 min PASSED closing time as he was already late for his hockey game (playing). As it turned out it was 45-50 minutes passed closing time when we were able to start attending to our closing procedures. We often, as our personal schedules allow, stay passed the official closing time as part of our Customer Service. Try that at most other places. In order to save the Customer the incoming freight cost we agreed to allow her to pick up the purchased material at Torlys as if she was from Alliance. On or about December 1st we received a call with further questions on installation advice to which Mike obliged with another 10 min session. No mention of the underlay issue at this point. Around December the 15th she ordered an installation toolkit through us and again went to Torlys to pick it up. There (we can only assume) she asked a warehouse employee about the underlay that she purchased from us (total value $55.10) (or perhaps they asked what she is doing for an underlay, we are not sure how it came about) and was told that the laminate (and not the "floor" as is stated in the previous version of the review) wouldn't be guaranteed by Torlys. This is simply not true and correct and we can prove it in writing from Torlys. However, she rushed off and purchased "approved" underlay somewhere else without even contacting us for comment or options or explanation. December 24th is when the next visit took place and the return of the underlay we sold was requested. I should state here, that our Return Policy that is at the bottom of our Invoice in not so fine print and is always read and signed by every Customer (present Customer no exception, we have a signed return policy Invoice, so she clearly must have understood the rules going in). The Policy states that return of merchandise ................ within 7 days of purchase for a 35% restocking charge ................, cut material not returnable. The statement that our underlay would have voided Torlys' warranty is simply incorrect. However, since it is a stock pad and as part of, again Customer Service, we offered to take it back even though it was 35 days PASSED our policy allowance (brownie point #1) but the restocking charge of $19,28 does apply. Most people would have been happy that they get something back they are not entitled to, but this wasn't good enough for this Customer. Our next offer was (once) that if she wrote a review for us here and on Google we would provide a full refund (brownie point #2). She left the underlay with us, agreed to write the reviews and left. The reviews were not written before in the middle of January she called to enquire about the refund. At this time she was reminded about our agreement and was offered the original 65% refund in lieu of the reviews. She decided instead to go ahead and write the above mentioned review here with a zero(0) rating and the minimum possible (1) on Google saying that we forced her to write them in order to get a refund even though she felt uncomfortable doing so. Despite the fact that she clearly had the choice of a partial refund without, she wrote reviews "period", so where is her refund she demanded in an email? After receiving a call from Timea and a short discussion she changed the ratings and the wording to what is currently readable on both sites and against my best judgement Timea gave her the full refund. Personally I feel hard done by. We did nothing wrong. We did nothing but service her to the tilt that she would never have received at 99.99% of other places for the size of her order vs. the amount of investment in time, after hours. I feel we deserved better. We (I am) are not perfect. No one is. I personally take full and uncompromising responsibility for everything we do. When I pay for a mistake one of our people makes I don't ask for compensation from anyone. When we do well I expect to be rewarded accordingly. Reader, PLEASE DRAW YOUR OWN CONCLUSIONS. Should you have any questions, I am available by all means possible with answers regarding this or any other relevant subject. While the golden rule is that "the customer is always right", he/she does not have the right to ruin the reputation of anyone or entity just because she can, especially without proveable cause. The feeling of entitlement over something does not make it to be a fact. But these day, who knows anymore. Even if one goes well beyond the norm one can still end up with negative results. Weird world.
Still, Ilana thank you for the business you did provide us with.

Laminate flooring for basement

After reading all the great reviews on Alliance and not having any luck visiting showrooms, I called and spoke to knowledgable and super helpful Timea.
She guided me in selecting the best product for our basement.
We ran into a snag with our basement renovations, and Alliance was helpful in getting the supplier to store the flooring we wanted for a couple of months at no extra charge.
The entire process was very simple, professional and altogether seamless.
I found Timea and the other staff at Alliance to be extremely helpful and courteous at all times. The icing on the cake is that their prices were cheaper than the flooring place close to my house for the exact same make, model and colour .

Highly recommended!

Re-carpeting Office at Airport

From the initial contact with Alliance Floor Source, we were extremely impressed with the customer service and desire to meet the needs of our project idea. Timea and her team were very accommodating to some of the supplemental requirements for conducting an install in the Toronto Pearson Airport Terminal building! On installation day, the technicians were on time, committed, and completed the project with an end result greater than we could have imagined! The look of the carpet and room now makes a world of difference! We feel we received substantial value. We enjoyed our experience with them and will definitely go back to them for any future flooring project! We will be sharing their contact with the airport community as well!!
