Disappointed

Ive had my windows cleaned lots of times. Generally it takes one cleaner 2 to 2.5 hours (I dont have a big house). I had one great guy who did amazing work, but his company told me he had been injured on the job and wasnt cleaning any more. Eventually I randomly chose Toronto Clear View Window Cleaning.

The cleaner arrived and told me the job would take 2.5 to 3 hours. Thats fine. I chose their bronze plan because the silver and gold plans were more than I needed. The cleaner was on his phone pretty much 100% of the time. Two hours turned to three and then to four. All the while with my cat locked away in the cold cellar. Eventually I got fed up and interrupted the guys phone conversation and told him that the job was taking far longer than it should and that he should focus on the window cleaning. He replied (cheerfully, I have to admit) Oh, I have Bluetooth. I can talk and clean at the same time.

Four hours turned into five. Toward the end the cleaner had to get a ladder and go up on the roof to clean the windows of the master bedroom. No other cleaner in the past (and there have been plenty) has ever had to do that. Theyve all been able to figure out how to remove the bedroom windows. No doubt this added to the time, but Id say it was more due to the 90 phone calls.

Toronto Clear View overcharged me, assuming that I chose their gold plan. Maybe they should have asked the cleaner exactly what I was quoted. This was fixed quickly enough. At a later stage I complained about the work and Toronto Clear View replied Although the cleaning did take longer than expected, we did not charge accordingly. In other words, I should be grateful that they didnt charge me double what I was quoted since the job took twice as long as I was quoted. Thats because the cleaner was slow and more focused on his phone than the work at hand. They were suggesting that I was getting a bargain when I was only getting what they quoted me. I wasnt going to give Toronto Clear View a bad review, but I found their remark so galling that I changed my mind.

Oh, and the cleaner reinstalled a bathroom window upside down. Toronto Clear View sent another cleaner out the next day to fix the problem. It took about 25 minutes for the cleaner to remove the window and reinstall it properly. A mistake that never should have been made in the first place.

I put this whole fiasco behind me, but then received an e-mail saying Time to book your semi-annual window cleaning! I unsubscribed from this mailinga mailing that I never subscribed to in the first place.

Overall, not a good experience. Toronto Clear View could have handled this so much better.

Company Response

I feel it is important to fill in the many blanks of this review. Yes, there was an error made on the invoice and a window was installed incorrectly, but both were immediately corrected.

To provide some insight, as David indicated in his review, he chose the least costly package, one that very few choose as it is designed for windows that rarely exist, or for those wishing to save money by not wanting a thorough cleaning. A simple selection error on our part during invoicing resulted in David's immediate outrage via email, stating,"Rohan quoted me $280...and that's what I'm prepared to pay. If he made a mistake, then it's on him". Whoa! So instead of kindly inquiring why there was a pricing discrepancy with the invoice, David attacks us. He is now on a mission to tear apart yet another company and to do so on not just one review site, but others.

The window cleaning service we provided did indeed take twice the expected length of time. According to David incredible insight, it is solely due to the worker being on the phone, "pretty much 100% of the time". It is noteworthy that our workers are not paid hourly, but rather by the job. Does it seem likely a worker would allow a phone to double how long a cleaning would take? Or was it perhaps other reasons like the windows are old and quite dirty? When we referenced not being charged the higher cleaning package, in David's own words, he found the statement of facts "galling" whereby he jumps to the conclusion that we claim he, "was getting a bargain" by only being charged the quoted low end cleaning package.

I highly encourage browsing through all of David's posted Google reviews. It will paint a VERY clear picture of what happens when anything less than perfection occurs. Interestingly, the vast majority of the 5 star reviews are when people are not involved, such as travel locations. However, when interaction with people are involved, while there are some 5 star reviews, it is incredible how many poor reviews David has posted. There is clearly no room for error with David. Unfortunately, mistakes do happen, but we take immediate action to correct them.

Also, the email reminder David received was a FALL reminder to book for EAVESTROUGH cleaning. David goes on a rampage claiming it was only for WINDOW cleaning. While all our customers appreciate very much the reminder email that we send only in the Spring and FALL, it is obvious that David does not.

Here are some excerpts from just a few of the many bad reviews David has posted. A clear pattern can be seen. Sadly, David targets an audio/video store because they sell modern products. He rants on and on how everybody should stay away from modern products and keep their old ones.

Although not included below, some of the responses from those receiving the bad review are also very much worth reading because they are VERY enlightning too, as they show what the person behind the name David is really like. According to David:

"I haven’t had a single, reliable plumber."

"My experience with the Bochner Eye Institute was, in a word, horrible"

"The most incompetent admin staff I’ve ever encountered."

"He omitted a number of steps and, as a result, wasted my time"

"The receptionist grudgingly sold me the food, but said that it would be inappropriate to sell me any more because of my complaint. I was told not to return."

"The host/maitre d'/whatever you want to call him. An elderly guy. Gruff, rude and in the main: miserable."

"I called them back and after two seconds they hung up on me. I called back and told them what I thought."

"Wow, how do you screw up something as simple as a food order? I'll never count on Blue Cross Animal Hospital again."

"The chicken soup was terrible. The chicken was rubery and overcooked. The broth was terrible as well. Bland as dishwater. I won't be back".

"I was angry and suggested that maybe he'd lost sight in one eye and the lack of peripheral vision."

"If you make an appointment, they'll screw it up."
