Excellent Service

We had our appointment with Paul last week to work out the network and electrical details of our new house and he did an excellent job of explaining everything in detail even when we asked the same questions multiple times. He is very organized, detailed oriented and provided excellent service.

We were very happy with our dealing with him - keep up the good work, Paul! :)

STAY AWAY FROM THESE FRAUD ARTISTS

Stay away at all costs. They installed a faulty alarm system that goes off when it has been completely disarmed. When we complained, they sent a technician who was an incompetent, flaming misogynist. Before he even came to our house he called me twice to harass me about how the alarm has no problems and that I am confusing my house alarm with the smoke alarm. We would disarm the alarm in under a minute and they would still dispatch the police and then bill us for false alarms because we didnt answer the call from the monitoring station, which calls from 1-800 number is the USA with no caller ID (forgive me for thinking disarming the alarm is sufficient to signify that there is no issue). Turns out - the monitoring station does not receive the disarm notification and Smart Tech/Alarms tacks on an extra $30 to every false alarm invoice, trying to pass it off as the fee from the police. We ended up being falsely billed with nearly $1000 worth of these "false alarm" fees.

Company Response

Response: Hi Sandra, Sorry that you feel dissatisfy with our service. Our security alarm system detects any motion activity in your home when the system is activated. Upon our site visit to inspect the alarm functionality we found no issues with our equipment. We did note on our service visit, that your dog is left at home while your away. Your false alarm is caused by your dog triggering the home motion detector. As for the city police services charging of high "False alarm" fees is beyond our control. Recommend bypassing motion detector while dogs is home alone.

Smart-tech "The worst service ever"

I had them replace my cameras. paid a lot for just 4 cameras and the recorder and I've had always issues with the system. A friend of mine came over and could login to my camera system without me giving him the credentials! That was the time I realized that my camera system was not secured by Smart-tech and everyone could log into it! They invaded my privacy and compromised my security. Do not trust this company.

Company Response

Hello Private User,
Thank you for your business in the purchase of our camera system. Customer privacy is our main concern, every camera system we install is set up on a user default password which was given to you at the time of installation. For your security, our tech's DO NOT install your password for obvious reasons. You're told to change the default password to you own password of choice later. Note: Because your friend was on your local Wi-Fi network he's able to scan and view your cameras, but this is not possible to view your camera outside of your local network. Hope that give you a better understanding.

New Home Setup

I bought a new home, and the builder outsourced the wiring of cable, ethernet, and alarm systems to this company. We had the option of upgrading the work, to avoid wiring after drywall had gone in.
My first visit was with Ricky, their salesperson. He sold me on HDMI extenders and recessed outlets in both the Master Bedroom and Family Room; it would allow for a sleek look and the TV to be mounted closed to the wall. In addition I order some other services.
18 months later I closed on my new home and they came out to my place on a Wednesday. They spent hours here doing the work, so I thought. When they left I saw they had not installed the Skybell (based on reviews I dodged a bullet with that one), although they added a wire for it, which I was charged $100 for (more on this wire further down).
In addition the HDMI extenders weren't working, the TV would go blank every minute or so. On the Friday I called them. I spoke with Paul, who promised someone would call me on Tuesday following the August long weekend. Nobody called me. I emailed Ricky, as he was the only contact email I had. He never responded.
After me calling and emailing multiple times, I was told I can get a credit for over $1000 they owe me, due to their faulty equipment, which for a month they didn't make an effort to fix. Rob the owner said Ricky advised I wouldn't let them come; this was not true, I have the email where I asked them to come.
When I asked Rob for prices and models of their Nest Door Lock and Nest Hello, I had to follow up twice before someone sent me the info. I was told there would be a charge of $499 and $599 respectively; those 2 items are available at Best Buy for $359.99 and $299.99, respectively. I was told the huge markup was installation. I advised I can install it, how much for the product, Paul advised the price cannot be reduced without installation, as then they can't warranty the product.
Since they weren't willing to work with me, I advised Paul to advise Rob (the owner) that we will have a judge decide. I have all my emails and phone records to prove I chased them, and had a lack of response and therefore no attempt from them to resolve the issue.

Paul called me back. Said they would give me a full refund less $100 for restocking. I agreed.

Someone showed up at my home to pick up the equipment. He didn't bring the cheque to the door. He took the equipment to the car and came back with a cheque $300 short...very sneaky.

When I called, Paul advised it was the charge when they installed the faulty equipment. So they told me one thing, which our deal was based on, and then did something different.

Rob obviously needs the money more than me, a single mother. So at that point with a 3 month old and elderly parents to care for, taking a person like this to court was not worth my time.

Note: it took me 15 minutes to install the door lock (they wanted to tack on $140 to the Best Buy price for install).

I will install the Hello Doorbell next, which can be installed where the existing doorbell is; I don't need the wire they charged me $100 for. These are many ways they take advantage of people.

My advice. If your builder is using them, do the bare minimum. Anything you can do after is likely cheaper and hopefully another company will give you better service by responding to your issues with their faulty equipment.

Alarm System

Terrible service from the technicians involved in installing and servicing the alarm systems. They are unprofessional and will make you feel you are inconveniencing them when they are supposed to just do their job. We only had 1 month of service and we had multiple service calls and issues are not being addressed. Take your business elsewhere!
