Needed paint for the interior of my house before our 2nd baby. Our tenant is a painter and recommended that we go with General Paint instead of a cheaper paint you would find at Home Depot. Turns out that it was good. The paint (after corporate discount) was just a bit more expensive the the big boxes but paint coverage was much much better and cleanup was easier! Check them out!
Light fixtures for heritage home
Choice is good but sometimes too much choice is confusing! The showroom on Bridgeport has tons of selection. It great that fixtures are lit so you can visualise what theyd be like installed in your home. We bought a number of stained glass fixtures for our Reno but let me tell you, they were not cheap. You are paying for the showroom and the wide selection but without the displays it would have been difficult to make a decision. I would recommend against buying bulbs there as prices at big box stores are more competitive.
24 square feet half bathroom renovation
Yes you read it correctly. We have a 25 square foot bathroom with sloped ceiling in our attic that needed a refresher. Slap a toilet in there and there was not enough room for a vanity. After going to the Home depot and not finding a single thing that would fit our 4 foot wide bathroom, we found Lux Salon advertised in a local furnishings magazine advertising Euro compact designs. Their showroom was fantastic and showcased many artful fixtures that cater to the space challenged condo Market and old attic bathrooms with sloppy ceilings. Prices were reasonable. We bought a wall mount sink and funky fixture and now get compliments on our cool mini bathroom all the time. I can forego the airplane bathroom comparisons however. Happy renos.
Cheap tile, interior doors and locksets
A friend who does minor renovations recommended this place to us. It was a great find as the location is pretty obscure and not a place I would typically walk into if it wasn't recommended to me. Lots of choices for cheap tiles, pre hung doors and locksets. The also have toilets vanities and shower doors. Almost a one stop shop for budget renos. Oh yeah, cheap laminate flooring as well. Just be wary the the service matches the price. Buy what you need and then go to the local home depot for advice on install.
We searched far and wide for a kitchen sink that would fit our narrow ikea cabinet. On the expensive blanco Stainless steel sink would fit and give us the to basins we needed. Turns out save on plumbing Was able to source it for us from their warehouse at 30% off the special order price at the home depot. Their showroom was also a surprise. If you ever need an Egyptian themed toilet with gold paint, this is the place for you.
Darren is a godsend. Waking from our first night in our new old house, we counted 20 silverfish on the top floor ceiling! What a crappy surprise. Quickly picked up the phone and called Canadian pest. The clerk tactfully calmed us down and arranged for a technician to come out and have a look. The fee included a 6 month guarantee. Because of our heavy infestation, they came out 3 times. Now the silverfish are history! They really stand by their guarantee.
Patrick put our minds at ease when we moved into our neglected heritage home. The inspector did not catch the mice wasps nor ant infestations. Local to the neighbourhood, he showed up with his son and dusted and baited the place. No further signs of anything for two years now! Fantastic.

Upgrading windows for Energy Savings
THe energy audit performed on our 100 yr old character home suggested huge savings if he windows were replaced. Oasis gave us the best price for vinyl windows with an appropriate heritage look. Service was quick and professional. Their installation subcontractors were polite and considerate when working around the house. Recommended.
No fooling around here. Facing a tight timeline, I called hillcrest plumbing into change out the hot water tank. Louis was in and out in an hour and very professional. He also fixed our mis-plumbed sewage ejector pump at the same time. Before Louis came along there was a nasty smell in the basement but now it smells great! Highly recommended for great service at a reasonable cost for a plumber who has seen it all before and knows how to deal with it.
Never having tiled before, I was pretty nervous. HD staff put me at ease and set me up with everything I needed at a reasonable cost. I got so comfortable at using the tools that I started to tile all sorts of areas around the house like the bathroom, front entranceway, and even the ceiling! Ok just kidding - not the ceiling.
