The movers laid out a fabric so as not to mark up the floor and they wrapped the furniture/various items in blankets to minimize scratches. Since we had more stuff than room at my place as I was storing items for someone else, Brendan suggested that we put the remainder in storage until it can be moved out in a couple of months and we did.
