We had our eaves cleaned by Maple Window and Eaves Cleaning Inc. The service was prompt and fantastic. We will definitely use this company again next year for cleaning our eaves.

Approximate cost of services:
$200.00

Gutter Force came to our house and cleaned out the eavestrough as planned. Everything was fine except for the fact that we noticed that during the eavestrough cleaning the downspout had been knocked off the eavestrough and the two parts were no longer connected. We called Marc to request that they come back and repair the damage. They came back within the week but then tried to charge an additional $80 fee for a minor repair. When we called to discuss this additional fee, which we thought was unreasonable given the fact that Gutter Force had been responsible for the disconnection, Marc became irate immediately. He ranted about people in their thirties wanting everything and was extremely rude and unprofessional. While the work itself was acceptable, we cannot recommend Gutter Force because of their utter lack of professionalism.

Approximate cost of services:
$250.00

Company Response

The cleaning job as he mentions all went well but he failed to mention his wife didn’t contact us or pay us for two weeks after the cleaning job was done. When we did call her for payment she told us that our crew had knocked the downspout elbow loose were it attaches to the eaves. We agreed to go back and check it out to see what had happened. My crew were busy with getting jobs done before winter setting in so I (Mark) decided I would check it out personally. Upon Arrival I saw that the downpipe elbow was disconnected from the eaves at the top. So I put up a 25ft ladder and climbed up to screw the elbow back to the eaves. When I got to the top and looked closely, to my surprise, there was no screw holes on the elbow …the original installer, not Gutter Force, had not put any screws on that elbow to attach it. They had forced it up tight to the outlet and had screwed it at the strap holding the pipe to the wall. Some Installers do this to save time. It had come loose but had never been properly attached in the first place…. so it Was Not our responsibility. I screwed it back properly, then called the customer to explain what I observed and that there would be a charge for me going back to attach the elbow that was never properly screwed on in the first place. She did not believe me and said that our crew must have knocked it loose because” it was “fine before we were there”. I insisted we had done extra work and made the extra service call to fix something that was not our fault and there would be a charge. She insisted that we must have knocked it loose. At this point I did get emotional and preachy … I criticised her generation of wanting quality services but not wanting to pay for them. I then said “forget about the extra charge and just pay the original cleaning bill which we had done to their satisfaction …. I closed with, don’t call us again to do any services on your house again, which I now regret saying… I am sorry… I was tired and burnt out after a busy long season … we came back and fixed the problem and she was not charged any extra amount.
In summary: We do our best to be a “10” at Customer service and quality .We came back and fixed something we did not break. She got what she wanted fixed at no cost to her. We gave in.
To have a contractor come back to fix small things they should get a 10 ! (even if he was a bit testy)
