We came by ServiceMaster after making an insurance claim as they were a "preferred contractor" of our insurance company, CAA. In my opinion, there is nothing preferential about them. In my opinion, they were nothing but a pain to deal with throughout the entire insurance claim process. In my opinion there are plenty of other good restoration companies in Ottawa. They were so bad to deal with that we will no longer have a relationship with any insurance company that contracts out to ServiceMaster Restore.

As one of the few preferred Disaster Restoration Contractor for most of the major Insurance Companies, ServiceMaster's team was contacted to address an urgent situation after this reviewer's mother, who is the actual policy holder, was targeted by an unscrupulous contractor who damaged your mother's property. Our primary objective was to secure the property from further damage, intrusion and potential hazards by sealing a large opening in the foundation, which was performed immediately to ensure her safety and security. This emergency service was conducted under the directive and approval of both the insurance adjuster and the insured’s engineer, focusing strictly on making the premises safe and secure.
While we appreciate a son's desire to help his mother, it should be noted that it is not always understood that insurance coverage is restricted to returning a home to it's pre-loss state and does not allow for betterments or upgrades. ServiceMaster's estimate reflected the repair of stairs and railing to like, kind and quality as to what was there before the damage. ServiceMaster did not perform any repairs to this home as they decided to take a cash out. The insured's son proceeded to hire his own contractor, installing the upgrades they wanted.
