The shingles on the roof of my house and the detached garage were starting to deteriorate so I looked at HomeStars to find a reliable contractor to replace the shingles before they started to leak. I asked for quotes from three contractors. The quotation from Kevin at Great Canadian Handymen was very competitive, but Kevin also spent some time with me to discuss my needs, and he carefully explained options that I could choose for the materials etc. It was the tail end of winter, but as soon as the weather warmed up he called me to say that he would order up the materials and let me know when he would do the job. Sure enough he called with a date and showed up on time with his crew. They were all very friendly and arranged things so that the work would cause minimal inconvenience to both me and my next-door neighbour. They completed the work in three days and did a beautiful job. The might have been able to do the job more quickly but they spent a lot of time cleaning up thoroughly as they went along, making sure that there was no junk on my property or on the driveway of my neighbour. When they were done the roofs looked amazing and there was no mess left behind. I would highly recommend Kevin and Great Canadian Handymen to anyone who needs roofing work.

I have used this company twice this year, the first time for installing five galvanized steel posts for two structures in my backyard. The most recent time I had them install fifteen galvanized steel posts for about 95 feet of fencing. The guys showed up on the scheduled day and worked hard to install all of the posts, set in concrete in just a few hours. The took care to make sure that the posts were all vertical and the heights lined up perfectly. These guys know what they are doing, they and are friendly, fast and efficient and a pleasure to work with. I would definitely hire them again.

I needed a safety railing and gate around a stairwell to the basement from the backyard and considered buying the materials from the local building materials store and doing it myself. However, I looked in HomeStars and asked RJ Aluminum Railings for a quote for comparison. Joe came over within a couple of days and gave me a very reasonable quote - not much more than it would have cost me just to buy the materials! I accepted his quotation and the white aluminum railing and gate were installed, along with a stair handrail, about 10 days later. Looks great, very professionally done. I'm glad that I didn't waste my time trying to do it myself!

After reading the Homestars reviews, I decided to contact Casa Bella Windows to replace two very large windows, about 8' by 5' and a smaller bathroom window at the front of my house. Their range of products and prices were very good so I accepted their quotation. However, I then realized the massive stone window sill on the upper floor, which was in two sections, has a major problem. One of the sections had, over the years, shifted so that it no longer ligned up with the other one. I called Casa Bell in a panic and they sent over their Installation Manager to check it out. They felt that they could re-align that section during the window installation for a small fee which I agreed to. After placing the order they were ready to install in only a few weeks and, even though it was the middle of winter, they came and replaced all three windows the same day, including fixing the mis-aligned sill. When the came into the house they put runners and blankets on the floor everywhere they were working so that they would not make any mess as they came in and out of the house. I would highly recommend this company to anyone who needs new windows - the same company makes the windows and installs them. Their installers were fast, polite and efficient and didn't leave any mess behind.
