Energy audit pre and post renovations to century home
In taking advantage of the government rebate programme for energy retrofit, Home NRG Saver personnel came to carry out an audit of my 12 room home, built in 1836. I received the results of the audit, indicating the energy rating assigned plus a package of literature, suggesting renovations which would likely result in energy savings and a higher rating. A number of these suggestions were acted upon, including insulating the attic space, the outside walls of two rooms, installing water saving flush toilets, a new high efficiency furnace, etc. A return visit for a blower test yielded odd results and a lower rating. When I questioned these results, a second test was set up, carried out today by Doug Clark (the president of the company). He proved to be very helpful in searching out two areas of air leakage, answered questions with respect to what might be done and the best materials to use. Within the next week he will have analyzed the results of this test which I'm hopeful will result in a higher energy savings rating and no charge for the testing. If the results are the same as the previous test, I will happily pay the $75 charge for the retest as an area in the kitchen has been shown to need a barrier to air infiltration. On the basis of the checkup and testing carried out at my place, and the courteous, knowledgeable and professional manner of the technicians, I would highly recommend this company for any energy audit. Wow that was quick Bev, your review made it's way online before I even made my way back to the office! I'm very glad we were able to help you out and should you have any further questions please do not hesitate to call or email myself. There will be no charge for the retest as the previous blower door test results are definitely off from what I found today. Your observation that a window might have been open originally was probably accurate and I apologize for that oversight. Turns out that having the test redone was worthwhile. Having the home owner at the house always helps as you can then point out areas of the home that you might have concerns about. I will be in touch shortly to discuss the final results, Doug
